DMV Sends Tennessee Woman ID With Photo Of Empty Chair, Not Her Face

CENTERVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Driver’s license photos aren’t always the best, but when a Tennessee woman received her new ID the picture was perfect — for a furniture store. Jade Dodd renewed her license online and received it last week, but to her surprise, the photo wasn’t a picture of her. It only showed an empty chair.

“The lady at the DMV did not really believe me when I was like ‘hey, I need my license fixed,’” Dodd said. “Then, she looked it up in the system and goes, ‘oh, I need my manager for this.’”

The chair ended up being the focal point of the license because it was the last photo taken and saved to Dodd’s file, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security told WKRN-TV. The photo was taken accidentally, the department said. Dodd said she wasn’t upset by the mistake. Instead, she said it lightened the mood amidst the coronavirus pandemic and provided her and her coworkers with a few laughs.

“My boss thinks it’s funnier than anyone,” Dodd added. “I was at work Friday and he pointed to a chair outside of his office door and was like, ‘I thought this was you, I waved at it this morning." She posted the photo to Facebook on Aug. 6 and as of Wednesday, it had been shared more than 19,000 times and turned into several memes. Dodd received her new license Monday — without the chair.

She could claim to be the invisible woman. :laugh8:

I don't understand that. Shouldn't the cat be seriously injured?

I think cats can fall from high places and not get injured, usually landing on their feet I think lol...

Chocolate snow falls on town in Switzerland

Residents of a small Swiss town have found buildings and property dusted in chocolate 'rain' after a glitch at a nearby confectionery factory.

Lindt & Spruengli said its factory in Olten had a minor problem with the cooling ventilation system for roasted "cocoa nibs", a key part of chocolate production, last week.

Whipped up by strong winds on Friday morning, the cocoa powder spread around the area near the factory, leaving a fine cocoa dusting on the town, which is located between between the larger cities of Zurich and Basel.

One car was lightly covered in the powder, the company said. It added that it has offered to pay for any cleaning needed but hasn't yet been taken up on the offer.

The particles were completely harmless to people or the environment, Lindt said.

Factory work carried on as normal despite the malfunction and the ventilation system has now been repaired, the company added.

Amazing 'Bubble House' for Sale in Australia

An incredible and truly one-of-a-kind home comprised of a series of connecting domes has gone on the market in Australia. Known as the 'Bubble House,' the residence in the community of Karalee was designed by Graham Birchall back in the 1980s as part of his graduate thesis in architecture. He and his wife Sharon spent the next thirty years building the unique home which consists of eleven domes ranging from 13 to 26 feet in diameter.

Described as "an ode to strength, beauty and the simplicity of the humble circle," the approximately 11,000-square foot residence boasts twenty rooms, including a sports bar, two libraries, and even a cathedral room. After three decades of living in the home, Birchall and his wife have reportedly decided to move on from the 'Bubble House,' which hit the market in Australia earlier this week. The response to the listing, realtor Helene Shephard says, has been overwhelming.

Since the home is a private residence, many people living in the area have long speculated as to what the inside of the house looks like and, as such, have been phoning her in the hopes of getting a tour. Alas, such a scenario is not in the cards as Shephard is only allowing serious buyers to make on-site visits to the Bubble House. However, a video showcasing the property (seen above) provides a glimpse of the fantastic interior of the home which lives up to its futuristic exterior appearance.

As for the asking price for the stunning property, Shephard says that they have not listed a price for the home and are, instead, listening to offers from interested parties. "Graham and his family are looking for the right buyer who will appreciate everything they are gifting on," she explained, "it will be somebody who wants to live in an environment that stimulates them and is creative." That said, based on the price of surrounding properties, which are relatively normal compared to the Bubble House, the home is expected to fetch at least $1 million, if not considerably more based on its distinct design.

Very disturbing.
France's Horses Killed in Mysterious Ritual-Like Mutilations
Armed with knives, some knowledge of their prey and a large dose of cruelty, attackers are going after horses and ponies in pastures across France in what may be ritual mutilations.

Police are stymied by the macabre attacks that include slashings and worse. Most often, an ear — usually the right one — has been cut off, recalling the matador’s trophy in a bullring.

Up to 30 attacks have been reported in France, from the mountainous Jura region in the east to the Atlantic coast, many this summer, the agriculture minister said Friday. One attack was registered in February, according to the newsmagazine Le Point. With each attack, the mystery only seems to grow.

“We are excluding nothing,” Agriculture Minister Julien Denormandie said Friday on France-Info, before heading to a riding club in the Saone-et-Loire region, in east central France, where a horse was attacked a day earlier.

“Ears are cut off, eyes removed, an animal is emptied of its blood ...,” he said, spelling out the morbid fates befalling one of France's most beloved animals.

“All means are in motion to end this terror,” the minister tweeted.

After the first solid sighting of an attacker, gendarmes in Auxerre, in Burgundy, released a composite sketch this week based on a description by a man who wrangled with two attackers at his animal refuge in a village in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comte region.

“I used to have confidence putting my horses out to pasture. Today, I have fear in my gut,” Nicolas Demajean, who runs the refuge, Ranch of Hope,” said Thursday on regional TV station France 3.

Alerted by his squealing pigs, Damajean faced down two attackers last Monday. He himself was injured in the arm in a struggle with one intruder wielding a pruning knife as the other slashed the sides of two ponies, now recovering but “traumatized,” he said. The men fled in a vehicle.

The following day, an attacker or attackers bled a young pony in the Saone-et-Loire. In another case, some of a horse's organs were removed.

A donkey who reportedly participated in the past in the Christmas market in Paris was killed in a gruesome attack in June.

Theories abound as to whether the acts are a morbid rite of an unknown cult, a chilling “challenge” relayed by social media or copycat acts. Speculation is widespread as to how barbaric acts, some surgical, could be perpetrated without solid knowledge of equine anatomy or on a horse in a pasture presumably able to flee.

“A fearful horse in a pasture won’t get caught. The horse who feels confident with people ... he’ll come, find it normal that you put a harness on it or a rope around its neck,” said veterinarian Aude Giraudet, chief of the equine division at the prestigious National Veterinary School of Alfort, outside Paris.

“I’m not sure you need great knowledge of horses,” Giraudet said in an interview. Knowing how to approach them, from the front not the rear, is important. An ear can be slashed off while the horse is standing, but the animal would need to be prostate for grislier mutilations, she said. The veterinarian stressed that she didn't want to describe how to put a horse on the ground so as not to “give the least sort of tools to make it easier” for those out to kill them.

“If I were in Normandy, I think I would be very very worried about this epidemic,” she said, adding that security measures should be taken — at the very least installing cameras.

Two mutilations have been reported in Normandy, France’s horse country. Pauline Sarrazin, the owner of one victim, Lady, mounted a private Facebook group, “Justice for our Horses” after the savage June 6 killing of her horse near Dieppe, on the Atlantic coast. Aimed at sharing stories and advice, the group now has nearly 17,000 members.

France’s horse world is increasingly gripped by fear.

The president of the French Federation of Equitation offered on Friday to help police investigating the scattered cases. Serge Lecomte said earlier the federation would be a civil party in each case.

“We’re all afraid,” said Veronique Dupin, an official of a riding club in the Yvelines region west of Paris, asking that the exact location of the stable not be identified out of caution. Her club installed cameras last year because of intruders, and someone sleeps there nightly.

“Despite that, we’re not at ease,” she said, stressing how vulnerable horses can be. “They may be big, but they’re lambs.”

Pilots Report Seeing 'Guy in Jetpack' Flying Near LAX

(Video on the link)

In a bizarre story out of Los Angeles, the pilot of a jet coming in for a landing at LAX reported seeing a person in a jetpack flying alongside their aircraft. The very strange incident reportedly occurred on Sunday evening as an American Airlines flight was headed towards Los Angeles International Airport. The normally routine task of landing the plane took a weird turn when the pilot looked out his window and spotted a proverbial 'rocketeer' in the sky next to the airliner.

Understandably concerned about the 'unidentified flying person,' the pilot promptly contacted the control tower at LAX to report the curious sighting. "We just passed a guy in a jetpack," he told them with a tone suggesting that he was more annoyed than bewildered by the odd aerial interloper. To their credit, officials at the airport also seemed to take the sighting in stride and simply asked "were they off to your left side or right side?"

In response to the inquiry, the pilot said "off to the left side, maybe 300 yards or so, at about our altitude," which was around 3,000 feet at the time. The sighting was subsequently confirmed by two other pilots who told the tower that they had also seen the mysterious individual flying near the airport. Although the series of sightings sound somewhat hard to believe, aviation experts say that it is possible that someone with an advanced jetpack could actually pull off the foolish feat.

As one might imagine, authorities are taking the matter seriously since someone flying a jetpack in the congested airspace around LAX could have disastrous consequences. Attempts to locate and identify the individual at the center of the case have so far proven futile. One suspects that now that their misadventure has spawned international headlines and likely would result in some kind of legal trouble, 'jetpack man' will likely stay silent and, hopefully, stick to the ground.

Cops, villagers flee businessman’s ‘goblins’

Villagers and two police officers scurried for cover after they allegedly stumbled on goblins in a businessman’s suitcase while searching for poison that allegedly led to the death of several community members’ dogs.

The businessman, Sanderson Bloom Shamuyashe, who runs a grinding mill at Lupote Business Centre in Dete is the eye of a storm as he is also being accused of digging a grave of one of his wife’s relatives. The businessman, however, has vehemently denied the accusations.

A source who spoke to B-Metro on condition of anonymity said villagers were up in arms with the businessman after their dogs mysteriously died after getting into his homestead. Worried about that, the source went on to say villagers enlisted the services of police officers from Dete police base who accompanied them but were gripped with fear when they opened the business man’s suitcase.

“They were shocked when they saw strange beings which they believed were goblins and were seen running for their dear lives,” said a source.

The source added that this was not the first time the businessman had been accused of a bizarre incident. “Most recently he was seen by villagers digging a grave of a relative of his wife. He fled from the scene leaving his shoes which were used as exhibit and the issue was taken to Chief Nelukoba and after a full trial the chief ordered him to leave the area but he denied vehemently that he was the one who was seen desecrating a grave,” said a source.

The source added: “He (Shamuyashe) said the chief should enlist the services of witch-hunters popularly known as tsikamutandas to come and sniff out the witch saying if tsikamutandas catch someone else he would take the villagers and the chief to task.” The source went on to say in fear of the invisible beings community members now shun his services.

The businessman’s wife Bessie Ndlovu who works for a safari company nailed him: “I heard that police officers and villagers saw strange things at our homestead when police were investigating a case of dogs which died mysteriously. I will no longer stay with him because he was caught digging a grave of my younger sister. He ran away and left shoes at the grave site.

She added: “The issue did not go down well with my parents. The matter was taken to Chief Nelukoba who after a full trial ordered us to vacate the place but my husband refused to leave.”

Shamuyashe said: “There is no goblin that they saw, I even advised village head Simanyayi, former councillor, my father-in-law and other villagers to enlist the services of tsikamutandas to root out such goblins. I told them that if they fail to root out such invisible things they have to give me a beast.”

He even denied that he was found digging a grave. “I don’t dig graves. I told the chief (Nelukoba) that I won’t leave because I’m not a witch. They have to look for tsikamutandas who will name and shame the person who was seen digging the grave. I will not leave, I will stay here,” he said.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Chief Inspector Siphiwe Makonese was not reachable for a comment.

Firefighters rescue kitten stuck inside 5-gallon water jug

Firefighters in Indonesia came to the rescue of a kitten found trapped inside a large water jug, with only its head sticking out from the opening.

The West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency said residents found the 5-gallon jug with the kitten inside and brought it to the fire station in Cengkareng. The kitten had apparently squeezed into the jug and found itself unable to get back out, ending up with only its head protruding from the narrow opening.

The firefighters carefully cut through the plastic jug to free the kitten. The operation took about 30 minutes, the rescuers said. The residents who first discovered the kitten decided to take it home with them, the firefighters said.
