Trying To Improve Something Turns It Into Something Worse

The credit union I use decided to improve their website recently. When I first went to use the new site, the layout was confusing. Worse yet, I could not access my credit card transactions. I would hit the link and it sat there and did nothing.

The next part made it all worse. I tried to call customer service support. The recorded message tells me I am 87th in line! Whenever I would call previously my call would be taken within 2 minutes. I gave up a couple of times. I then tried the chat online feature. To my surprise someone got right to me. Her solution? She told me how to go back to using the old layout.

I figured all those 87 other people must be complaining that the new website wasn’t working for them. I only hope they keep the old layout up and running.

They won't, they never go back to an older version, they'll just keep trying to make their new and improved version work...Same with most things these days it seems, even with apps...Accuweather had a great app I used for years, now they trashed it for a new and improved version which I do not like one bit...Still deciding on a new weather app now, not going to use Accuweather anymore...

I half wonder whether making these changes is all about someone justifying their job. I did send an email to corporate headquarters about their poor website. The president of the credit union says to contact him with any unresolved problems. I guess I will see if I get a response. I am not holding my breath.

I use the Weather Underground website.... wunderground.com for what what it is worth. I think they did the same thing as my credit union. They tried to niggle with things to improve it and made it worse. I just need some website to check on the weather sometimes. I check to see when a big front is blowing in.

They have done that a couple of times, at least. Weather Underground used to be a good site that you could configure the way you wanted it, and their forecasts were the most reliable for the Rocky Mountain area. There was also very little nonsense on there. I think the first big changes came when they were bought by The Weather Channel. The site got less useful and more cumbersome. It has not gotten any better. The forecasts are still good, so I keep figuring out workarounds to deal with the ham handed web design and the corporate BS. They've screwed up the radar maps to the point I no longer bother with them. They used to work great.

Keep at it. My credit union recently dispensed with two-part authentication. Said it was a burden and they have other means to 'verify its me.' I pointed out that they seemed to know 'it's me' even wen I'm using a vpn. Others complained. Two step verification is back on.

And yes, the mobile app for Weather Underground used to be good. Then they improved it such that I use the inherent IoS Weather app. Good enough. The WU website I check on my PC is still manageable.
