All things Egyptian

There's a pretty darn interesting depiction of Min the Egyptian fertility God found in the vid below.

It's interesting because it appears to show a sperm cell crossing the stream of ejaculate from Min's boner.

See 3:30

Cheers.

It depicts the letter O.

The hieroglyph itself represents a knotted rope.

Not so much so, I like to buy things Egyptian that appeal to me but I wouldn't suggest I am a serious collector as such. Although I do have items that are rare and hard to find.

Sounds like my outlook on antiques. If I like an antique, that's all that matters. I don't really care that much about what style or period it's from.

Yes its like an art dealer said to me once "It depends if it appeals to you or not ", I don't just buy anything Egyptian it has to 'appeal' to me . I have lots of things from different eras I really like Egyptian Revival Art Deco jewelry from the 1920s 1930s. But then I collect Teddy bears as well.

Even though my house is arts & crafts, I love art deco.

I get so tired of those shows on HGTV where the people always want everything in a modern style with an open floor plan. HGTV is always trying to push an agenda.

One thing I have is a Roman denarius from Actium in Greece ( 2nd September 31 BC ) it is probably the closest I will ever get to Cleopatra as the coin most probably was there when she and Marc Antony were defeated by the forces of Octavian. Mounted in 14k gold. IMG_20170225_155441.jpg

In Richmond there is a beautiful theater that was built in the 1920s. Even though it was still the Egyptian Revival Period in art and architecture, I'm not sure if the influence is truly considered Egyptian. It was originally called The Mosque but the PC police made them change the name a few years back

There was a big fascination in the 20s and 30s with all types of North African and Middle Eastern cultures. I love the silent movies from that era that reflect this interest such as The Thief of Baghdad or The Sheik.

I've always loved the excitement that was created when King Tut was discovered around that time.

Sorry, I had to post this. Thinking about King Tut reminds me of this!

It was a big thing back then in 1922 wasn't it. I mean the only tomb they discovered that was 'virtually' intact. It really stimulated the interest in Egypt and the fashions of the times. Tutmania.
