Mysterious Monolith Discovered in Utah

One presumably official statement I read said there was a road within half a mile, but that it was a very rough 4wd track. I've spent a fair amount of time in that general vicinity, and it's full of old prospecting roads that have never had any maintenance or improvements. Mountain bike heaven.

I'm sure whoever is in charge of that parcel of BLM land (Canyon Rims Recreation Area) is happy the thing was "stolen". They have to deal with plenty of dumbasses getting themselves in trouble out there without some imaginary alien connection. It is very rugged country that will kick your ass on a good day.

Ahhhh, but this pic is deceiving. 5 minutes earlier that man was a naked gibbering primitive.
The obelisk enabled him to perceive the use of his thumbs and tools. Then it gave him that nifty green jumpsuit and he knew just what to do with it !

Now a Mysterious Monolith appears in ROMANIA after unexplained metal vanished from Utah - so who (or what) put it there?

A mysterious metal monolith has appeared in Romania this week after another similar structure found in the remote Utah desert was removed by an 'unknown party'. The shiny triangular pillar was found on Batca Doamnei Hill in the city of Piatra Neamt in northern Romania last Thursday.

It was spotted a few metres away from the well-known archaeological landmark the Petrodava Dacian Fortress, an fort built by the ancient Dacian people between 82 BC and AD 106.

The peculiar find comes after a similar monolith was found in the Utah desert with no explanation, sparking wry speculation that it could have been the work of aliens, but is more likely the work of a prankster inspired by science fiction novel 2001: A Space Odyssey.

In the book by Arthur C Clarke, later made into a film by Stanley Kubrick, a monolith first appears on Earth in Africa three million years ago and appears to confer intelligence upon a starving tribe of great apes to develop tools.

In Utah, the pillar, which protruded approximately 12 feet from the red rocks in southern Utah, was spotted last Wednesday by baffled local BLM officials who were counting bighorn sheep from a helicopter. However the three-sided structure was removed by an 'unknown party' on Friday evening, the Bureau of Land Management Utah said in a statement.

News of the discovery in Utah quickly went viral online, with many noting the object's similarity to the strange alien monoliths that trigger huge leaps in human progress in Kubrick's classic sci-fi film '2001: A Space Odyssey.'

In Romania, the triangular structure has a height of about 13 feet and one side faces Mount Ceahlau, known locally as the Holy Mountain. It is one of the most famous mountains in Romania, and is listed as one of the seven natural wonders of the country.

Romanian officials still do not know who is responsible for erecting the mysterious monolith.

Neamt Culture and Heritage official Rocsana Josanu said: 'We have started looking into the strange appearance of the monolith. 'It is on private property, but we still don't know who the monolith's owner is yet. It is in a protected area on an archaeological site.' She added: 'Before installing something there, they needed permission from our institution, one that must then be approved by the Ministry of Culture.'

The official statement from BLM is they did not remove it and they said its on private lands and they could not investigate the matter because of that reason...
Pretty sure they meant the sculpture was private property. Sort of like an abandoned car or something that would be the sheriff's problem if someone reported it stolen. There are some inholdings in Federal land, usually mining claims and that sort of thing, but I didn't see any sign of that when I looked at the map of the Canyon Rim Recreation Area.

Yeah you're right, I wasn't reading that correctly...I'm sure BLM is glad it's gone though lol...

So now the monolith in Romania has disappeared!...

Mystery monolith vanishes in Romania - alien action or local prank?

A shiny metal monolith vanished on Tuesday from Romania's mountainous Neamt county, four days after its sudden appearance close to an ancient Dacian fortress sparked speculation it may be related to a mystery structure seen in the United States.

A similar alien-looking pillar, was spotted in a Utah desert in the United States about two weeks ago. It disappeared after generating much excitement internationally among science-fiction fans, hearkening to Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film, "2001: A Space Odyssey", based on a novel by Arthur C. Clarke.

In the Kubrick movie, an alien monolith is a recurring symbol that appears to play a role in the development of human evolution. Rather than being an alien structure, the truth of the Romanian monolith may be more prosaic.

"The 2.8 metre (9ft) tall structure disappeared overnight as quietly as it was erected last week," journalist Robert Iosub of the Ziar Piatra Neamt local newspaper, who had seen the structure, told Reuters.

Ripley’s Offering $10,000 Reward for the Missing Utah Monolith

Last week, the internet was buzzing over the news of a mysterious, alien-eqse icon dropped into the southeastern Utah desert. And this week, the same unknown object has suddenly gone missing. Its brief appearance has the world wondering—what was this unusual structure? Who placed it there, and where has it gone? We have questions (and a $10,000 reward for the answers).

YES, WE ARE OFFERING $10,000 FOR THE MONOLITH OR TIPS ON WHERE TO FIND IT.

Submit Your Tip

A 10-to-12-foot tall monolith was spotted by Aero Bureau and wildlife resource officers during an overhead count of bighorn sheep in the Red Rock Country area. The air team spotted the towering metal structure from above and took to the ground to investigate. The Utah Department of Public Safety says there was “no obvious indication” of who is responsible for the object’s placement. Reddit threads, Tweets, and Facebook comments revealed the coordinates of the monolith, however, the DPS urged tourists to avoid visiting the temporary addition in the fear of a required rescue if they were to become stranded. But, this word of caution didn’t stop curious explorers from navigating their way to it.

In a year full of chaos, the sudden appearance and disappearance of the monolith has proved quite a distraction amidst the 2020 news cycle. Naturally, as curators of the odd, unusual, and unknown, we’re on the hunt for the missing extraterrestrial artwork. Who placed this shining beacon in the Utah desert? Who took it away? Where is it now?

Ripley’s will pay $10,000 to the first person who comes forward as the proud legal owner of the monolith or who provides accurate information exclusively to Ripley’s on where to find it. Tips can be submitted anonymously, but hurry—this reward expires at the end of this weird year, December 31, 2020, at 11:59 p.m.!

This whole thing reminds me of the Pokémon craze. It cleverly moved masses of people to desired locations. Sounds like the Company.
