DNA analysis identifies this mummy as Queen Tiy (1398-1338 BCE), wife of Amenhotep Ill, mother of Amenhotep IV (Akhenaton), mother-in-law of Queen Nefertiti and grandmother of Tut. Discovered in 1898, it still shows the woman's features, including raven hair. Tiy was one of the most influential women of ancient Egypt, however, her name and her history fell into oblivion for many centuries. It is believed that Tiy, also known as Ty and Teje, lived between 1398 BC and 1338 BC.

Akhenaten was 14.5 feet tall and clearly not human. She looks of average height. o_O

Mummy mask Cartonage polychrome New Kingdom 18th Dynasty. Amenophis 111.
Major fragment of a mummy mask from the New Kingdom. A yellow-blue striped wig, which corresponds to the famous mask of Tutankhamen frames the delicate face of a court official. The eyes and eyebrows are provided with an extended make-up line. A lotus flower falls into his face. From the First Intermediate Period onwards, the mummified body was protected by a mummy mask. This custom persisted until the Roman Period. In the New Kingdom, however only important individuals from the upper echelons of society possessed such luxurious mummy masks. Restored, lacunae in the surface filled in, mouth slight overpainted.

Provenance: Coll. Verena and Peter Schnell, late 1950's-early 1970's and 2002, Zurich. - Formerly Coll. Ehlers, Denmark. Thereafter Danish Art Market. Thereafter JDC, Kunstmesse München and Cultura Basel, 23 October 2002.

Valley of the Pots near Abydos . Millions of pots shattered into pieces litter this valley, every pot carried the dreams of the owners to the Gods.
