This mumbling, stumbling President is a clear and present danger to world peace: The security of Europe is on a knife-edge, the credibility of the United States is on the line... and America's allies are looking for a cool head

At his first press conference since November - an event that was meant to be a reset for his presidency - Biden gave Vladimir Putin the green light to attack Ukraine. That's what I heard when I watched his mumbling, stumbling performance on Wednesday afternoon. It's what millions of Americans heard - and it's what Vladimir Putin was waiting to hear.

Uhhhhh .... didn't we invade and blow the crap out of and occupy SEVERAL sovereign countries since WW2 ?

ain't the the pot calling the kettle black........

“They’re testing us to see whether we will do anything of consequence to keep them from gobbling up part of another sovereign country,” McConnell said. “That hasn’t happened since World War II. I don’t think Vladimir Putin understands sovereignty."

Mitch McConnell, as senator for Kentucky since 1985, voted for the invasion of the sovereign nation of Iraq:

Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002 - Wikipedia

Russia itself annexed the Crimean peninsula of Ukraine in 2014.

Another example is that China invaded and occupied Tibet in 1951 (which was after the Second World War). Tibet remains Chinese territory to this day. Military aggression was outlawed by the UN in 1946, but that does not seem to have stopped invasions.

Shoe was on the other foot almost 20 years ago and the rhetoric sounds awfully familiar:

Okay. as I remember it, when the USSR broke up, the Ukraine wound up with nukes. But they choose to renounce them in exchange for protection by the West (I'm not sure which specific countries or alliance was involved). Now, one may be disappointed by the West not holding up its end, but Realpolitik is a thing. Ultimately, the Ukraine should have prioritized its own self-reliance.

Not suggesting what the West should or should not do, nor justifying (or even condemning) any action Russia ultimately takes. Just saying that unless a country definitively lacks the means to defend itself, it's a bad idea to rely on anyone else.

Do national leaders not study history anymore?

What is particularly disturbing about all this is the fact that the territorial integrity of the United States means precisely nothing to the Biden administration and the Congressional Democrats, walls are racist remember?..But the territorial integrity of Ukraine is something we must take the world to war over?...Such utter hypocrisy...

Biden orders 8,500 US troops to prepare to DEPLOY to Eastern Europe to fend off Russia: President could send up to 50,000 soldiers to NATO allies over Ukraine invasion fears

The Biden administration is ordering 8,500 U.S.-based troops to stand ready to deploy to Eastern Europe, the Pentagon announced on Monday. 'This is really about getting folks ready to go,' Defense Department spokesman John Kirby said during a press conference this afternoon. He said the majority of those troops would be ground forces. He said they would stand ready in case NATO activates the NATO Response Force or a 'deteriorating security environment.' 'There’s not a mission per se, this is about [Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin] wanting to get ahead of the potential activation and making sure these units have time to prepare,' Kirby told reporters. Kirby said the move was 'sending a strong message that we're committed to NATO and we're committed to ensuring that our allies have the capabilities they need in case they need to defend themselves.'

Biden is going to bring ruin to the US by confronting Russia and China at the same time, wtf...

On two fronts: America sends aircraft carriers and assault ships to the disputed South China Sea while Chinese planes - including an anti-submarine Y-8 - continue to lurk in Taiwan's airspace

Two US aircraft carrier groups have entered the disputed South China Sea as Chinese Air Force planes continue to fly near Taiwan, which China also claims. The US Navy says two carrier strike groups, led by the USS Carl Vinson and USS Abraham Lincoln, began operations in the South China Sea on Saturday (left). The aircraft carriers were pictured on the Philippine Sea, which lays east of Taiwan and west of the US territories of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. They were joined by two US amphibious assault ships and a Japanese helicopter destroyer. On Monday, the Taiwanese Defense Ministry said 13 Chinese planes flew into the country's Air Defense Identification Zone (top right). Taiwan had reported 39 planes from the Chinese Air Force in the protected air space on Sunday. The South China Sea and self-governing Taiwan are two of China's most sensitive territorial issues and both are frequent areas of tension between the United States and China. Some security have raised concern that China, led by President Xi Jinping (bottom right), will try to push its claims on Taiwan as the US deals with Russia's possible invasion of Ukraine. The US's show of force in the South China Sea comes as the Biden administration orders 8,500 US-based troops to stand ready to deploy to Eastern Europe as fears mount that Russian President Vladimir Putin may try to invade Ukraine soon.

Thing is, you get enough warships and planes and so forth operating in the same area it dramatically increases the possibility of some sort of incident. I do think a show of force isn't necessarily a bad idea, especially if it's just done - and NOT done to ameliorate the media's reaction to some idiotic statement by Uncle Joe.

Germany did that September 1 1939 to Poland

As did US in Vietnam, in Gulf of Tonkin incident :)

If Russia attacks Ukraine Russia is the most stupid country in the world. Russia and Ukraine divorced, now Russia wants to force Ukraine back into the marriage.

The reason Ukraine wanted separation in the first place is because there is no prosperity with Russia. Europeans didn't even invite Ukrainians, yet they want into Europe. Why? Because Europe is prosperous and Russia is not. If Putin made Russia as prosperous as Europe every country would want to be friends with Russia. But Putin failed to create prosperity, now he needs to force other countries to cooperate with him.

Biden is tested on FOUR fronts: Putin forces President to ready 8,500 troops to protect Ukraine, N. Korea launches fifth missile test, Iran-backed militia attacks U.S. base in UAE and Beijing torments in South China Sea

Just as President Biden is dealing with the brink of war on the Russia-Ukraine border, he is faced with a fifth North Korean missile test in one month, an attack on a U.S. air base in the United Arab Emirates, and a show of aggression from China. Rebels in Yemen launched the attack Monday on an air base where about 2,000 U.S. personnel are stationed, prompting the U.S. to utilize its Patriot missile defense system to defend the base. Combined with UAE efforts at interception, the military was able to prevent two inbound missiles from hitting the base. The Iranian back-rebels said that the missiles were aimed at the Al-Dhafra Air Base in Abu Dhabi, where the U.S. Air Force's 38th Air Expeditionary Wing is based, and 2,000 military and civilian personnel are stationed.

UK sends 2,000 anti tank missiles to Ukraine. But, apparently missiles are very close to their end-of-life and might be duds:

The NLAW Missiles The U.K. Rushed To Ukraine May Only Be Useful In Desperate Circumstances

"The NLAW, also designated the MBT-LAW or RB-57, has its origins in a joint British-Swedish project begun in 2002 to replace Cold War-era weapons designed to give infantry squads a portable, close-range defense against tanks.
Built from components manufactured by BAE, Saab, Thales and U.S. firm Raytheon, each single-shot unit was priced at 20,000 pounds in 2008 (then equivalent to $37,000) and has a shelf life of 20 years. Besides being procured by Sweden and the U.K., NLAW has been exported to Finland, Luxembourg, Indonesia, Malaysia and lastly Saudi Arabia, which has used NLAWs in combat in Yemen."

Anyone ever read the The Guns of August ? Classic. WW1 started because of a big clusterfuck of treaties, obligations, dependencies. Nobody wanted it and nobody expected it to last but it did. I don't think we're headed for WW3 but there are some chilling parallels.

There are lots of "chilling parallels", particularly with Hitler's annexation of Czechoslovakia.

Anyway, I always thought Putin is not corrupt. But I might be wrong. Here is he wearing several different watches each costing $20,000+ while several Western leaders, including Obama, typically wear watches worth only $200:
