Avengers: Infinity War Will Show Off Each Infinity Stone's Specific Power

Ever since some big reveals at D23 and Comic-Con, excitement over next year's Avengers: Infinity War has skyrocketed even while Marvel cruelly withholds the first trailer from the public (for now).

Part of that excitement is because the movie has almost everything/everyone from the previous decade of Marvel movies, being a climactic point of the MCU's overarching story involving the Infinity Stones. The six Infinity Stones have been appearing in these movies ever since Thor's post-credits scene in 2011, and according to Infinity War co-director Joe Russo, the new movie goes out of its way to involve each stone in the plot somehow.

Basically, they won't just be interchangeable cosmic power sources - each one is different, and that will factor into the movie's plot. Here's the full quote from Russo, from an interview with Screen Rant:

Here's a quick recap on the six stones:

The Blue Space Stone was the wormhole-generating Tesseract in The Avengers, the Yellow Mind Stone was in Loki's mind-controlling scepter in The Avengers (it's currently embedded in Vision's forehead), the Red Reality Stone was the vaguely powerful Aether in Thor: The Dark World, the Purple Power Stone was the weaponized little orb from Guardians of the Galaxy, the Green Time Stone is inside the time-warping amulet from Doctor Strange, and the Orange Soul Stone hasn't shown up yet.

Based on the Infinity Gems from Marvel's old "Infinity Gauntlet" storyline in 1991, the stones are some of the most powerful objects in the Marvel universe, even if we don't know what they all do. The Aether/Reality Stone from the second Thor movie was pretty confusingly explained, so Russo explicitly name-dropping that one and implying it'll be used more creatively this time around is good news.

Otherwise, whoever fits the stones into a single gauntlet (you know, like Thanos usually does) will have the power to mess with space and time, with unlimited access to cosmic power and people's minds, and whatever the Soul Stone ends up doing. The Soul Stone is likely to turn up in Thor: Ragnarok or possibly even Black Panther, completing the decade-long reveal of each Infinity Stone before they all come together next summer.

As many people have noted before, this is an extremely ambitious plan that Marvel's been working on, so here's hoping they manage to pull it off without Infinity War feeling too crowded or clunky, which is no easy task. But if anyone can pull it off, they can - after all, the MCU was the first major cinematic universe, even if everybody is trying to make one nowadays.

Avengers: Infinity War comes out May 4, 2018.

An incredible movie, for two and a half hours nonstop they start fighting from the beginning of the movie to the end, it's all or nothing...

Am I the only one who is a bit bored of super hero movies?

In my opinion it is just the same story over and over with slightly different characters each time.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Ant-Man and Deadpool and from the DC Universe Suicide Squad and Wonder Women but that was because I thought they were something different and therefore a little more interesting...

Also watched Guardians of the Galaxy 1&2 and the new Thor the other day, which I have to say I thought they were total crap with their unfunny "jokes" and uninteresting story lines.
