Kim Jong Un received a USB from South Korea's president with a blueprint for connecting North Korea with the world

    • Kim Jong Un received a USB from South Korea's president during their summit at the DMZ in April.
    • The USB contained a presentation and e-book containing a blueprint for economic cooperation between the two countries that could link North Korea to Russia, China, and Europe through trade and trains.
    • The USB appears to provide a further incentive for Kim to keep the agreements made between North and South Korea at the summit.

The purpose of giving Kim the flash drive appears to be an attempt to further convince Kim that North Korea needs international economic support rather than sanctions.

"The USB makes the case to Kim - there really is another path for you," John Delury, a North Korea expert at Yonsei University, told Axios. "[It says] we're serious about working with you for what we think is your real ambition - to be a wealthy East Asian country."
once again, what is happening? sudden korean unification out of nowhere, why?

Its not really sudden. Talks of unification have been happening between the north and south since about 2011. Then when the Olympics were in South Korea they really started to go full throttle.

So was this all a ruse to begin with?...Sounds like NK is going back to their old rhetoric...

North Korea threatens to CANCEL nuclear summit with Trump because it believes 'provocative military ruckus' of joint U.S.-South Korea drills are rehearsal for invasion
  • June 12 Singapore summit between Trump and Kim is suddenly in jeopardy
  • North Korean government blames joint U.S.-South Korea military exercises
  • Pyongyang sees the drills as a rehearsal for a full-scale invasion
  • Kim also canceled meeting with South Korea's president on a few hours' notice

We'll see. Some of this is posturing, some of this is paranoia.

The US has helped depose two depots that gave up their weapons. Kim should be suspicious.

But they didn't have a border with China.

We have no reason to depose Kim. He apparently hates the rest of his family more than we do.

Didn't Kim start changing his tune after he met with the Chinese recently?...

Yeah now the summit is called off completely, wtf...

Well...

There are two things going on.

1. US idiocy
2. Korean idiocy.

I was angered when Obama aided the rebels against Qaddafi.

Yet another instance of Obama being a (pardon the expression) asshole.

Qaddafi bargained away his nukes in good faith. Then we attacked him.

No dictator should ever trust the US again, particularly with nuclear disarmament.

Both Pense and Bolton mentioned Qaddafi as a model. To them it meant total disarmament.

To North Korea it meant - after we sucker you in we will attack you.

Mentioning Qaddafi is a jerk move.

The Koreans weren't returning our phone calls and did not meet with the planning team. That (and some other things) were a planned insult.

They wanted us to beg for the meeting and lose face.

Trump did the only thing he could. He wrote a very polite letter to Kim calling off the meeting since there seemed to be tensions.

Now the ball is in Kim's court.

The Korean's gained nothing and simply delayed the meeting.

North Korea responded almost immediately

The bottom line:

They now know that if they mess with Trump he will walk away. This limits the amount of posturing they can do.

However, we are going to have to offer them an ironclad agreement they won't be Qaddafied.

Damn, Obama is such a jerk it just infuriates me.

Update:

Trump Blames China’s Xi Jinping for Sabotaging the Kim Jong Un Summit

Further it looks like XI (China) put Kim up to this to test Trump.

frankly this is starting to get annoying

It has been annoying for 30 years. The handling of the Kims has been so ham handed it makes you believe Trump's predecessors, from both parties, were mentally deficient.

The problem is people are just fricken delusional in DC.

They want to replace dictators.

That sure has worked out well.

Can't think of any dictator we replaced that didn't create problems - perhaps someone knows of one.

As far as "legitimizing win" - Trump is going to aim for win-win situations. He wants North Korea pulled into the 21st century. And Kim turned over 3 people captured by North Korea that Obama was letting rot. Both were taking first steps to a more normal relationship.

For no reason the Korean war lasted 70 years. Trump wants to end it.

It is going to take some tough negotiation. We need North Korea completely disnuclearized - otherwise Japan and and possibly South Korea will go nuclear at some point to protect themselves.

But isolating North Korea hasn't worked for 30 years - and after almost 70 years of rule the Kims are pretty legitimate.

I expect the talks will take place before the end of summer some time.

I must say the POTUS impresses me with what he has been getting done... he does some things that seem whacky on the surface, but it seems he comes out smelling like a rose on most of it...
I still don't get all of what he is doing, but I am starting to believe the end justifies the means in Trumps actions.
