If you could freely travel through time where would you go and what would you do?

If I could observe only and not interact in any way, plus not have any language barriers:

- I'd like to see Julius Caesar negotiate the value of his ransom with his kidnappers, assuming it isn't an apocryphal story
- Texas School Book Depository and then maybe the Grassy Knoll
- the back seat of Lonnie Zamora's patrol car. Betty & Barney's car too

Since I'm a military history geek :
- follow Cpl.York back with his prisoners
- sit in the back seat of Gallaher or Best's SBD at Midway
- Little Round Top

Just a start. Random thoughts. Fascinating topic

based entirely on logic, I would travel back to the beginnings of human civilization. People can ask why, And debate the necessity of this move, But, If one was to traverse time wouldn't it make sense to capitalize on the principal? I feel anyone's knowledge of the modern day and basic understanding of rudimentary sciences would effectively make that person the most advanced being on the planet.

One would in a sense be a God in such a time period.

As Above So Below
If I could only observe and not interact nor tamper with anything:

I would like to see what happened to the Amber Room in Russia during WW2...
I would also like to see be present first hand when the Roswell incident occurred...

If I could interact and tamper with the past:

I would go back to before the Alexandria library burned and read some of the books and bring some back with me.

...

Ignorance isn’t bliss!
I’d like to travel forward in time a very long way til I reach a point where john4564 gets a prediction correct!.

I'd probably snipe Mohammed off before he married that six-year-old girl. It's an insane world we live in... I still don't see how something like that ever occurred in all of history.

you would have to go to the end of time for this, And even then the only thing he would have gotten correct would be that it was some sort of ending.

LOL @Ron67.

I just re-watched The Butterfly Effect last night. I can understand why some are saying they don't want to interact or tamper with anything. lol

I don't think I could be that strong. There is so much I would want to change. Even just starting with my own history alone, I would make so many changes. At least I would certainly want to try.

I think it comes from cause and effect, Consider if you went back and changed something, This would without a doubt change you, The lesson you learned the experience you had, Any knowledge gained. Then there is the paradox effect. If you change something, Then that thing is changed meaning you never go back to change it, meaning it still occurs, time is trippy that way.

As above, so bellow

I would also go back and kill Mohammed before he started Islam.

Some very good ones.

No interference:

- go and watch October revolution in 1917 as it happened.
- go and watch Moon landing with Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong.
- sit next to Hubble when he first realized that some stars are outside Milky Way.
- watch Archimedes almost inventing calculus and making Antikythera instrument.
- watch Leonardo painting and inventing, but not dissecting corpses.
- go into future and get some lottery numbers :)

With interference:

I would go and prevent the fire in the Alexandria's library. It was in the city's port and when Caesar came to capture Pompeii, Caesar's ships were Pompeii's ships in the port with some fireballs. Library close to these ships and it was just in a wrong place in a wrong time.

Tell Nikola Tesla that Marconi is about to steal his patents for radio and stop Tesla from working in Colorado and Wardenclife tower.

I would prevent plundering of Alexander the Great's thumb in Alexandria, by Romans.

I would go and prevent Hitler's mum and dad from making him. The same for Stalin and Saddam Husein :)

Make a copy of Trump's tax returns and bring it into now. Just for cicks :)

Nostradamus predicted his tomb would be opened and is why he was buried standing up. He was wearing a medallion that had the date it would happen. One of them were killed by a stray bullet after opening it. I would like to know what really happened. Was someone paid to cap the guy on that date and time?

Fratty and out of touch.
I would have tipped off the FBI about Lee Harvey Oswald to prevent President Kennedy from being shot. No one can say for sure, but from what I've read, Kennedy expressed great reluctance about getting heavily involved in the conflict in Southeast Asia. Besides the obvious casualties that would have been avoided, it would prevented the damage to the US psyche.

I’d like to sit with FDR in his library at Springwood in Hyde Park and have him mix a few drinks. I could Explain It All to him while we got snotted and see what he might have to say. Then go back to where I came from and like pulling my hand out of a bucket of water leave without affecting anything
