Avengers: Endgame

I watched it again last night and I noticed something I hadn't the first time. When Nebula is beating on her future self on Thanos' ship. She picks up what looked to me to be a bracelet that seemed to hold some kind of significance to her and then she quickly tucks it into her pocket.

Anybody know what that significance was?

Avengers: Endgame Is Returning to Theaters Real Soon, and With New Footage

This week Avengers: Endgame came within just $50 million of toppling Avatar’s domestic box office record, after a $3.51 million weekend brought it to an eye-watering $2,742,491,359 global gross. While it came close to Avatar’s record-holding $2,787,965,087, it seemed like Endgame just wouldn’t be able to top it, as more and more summer releases began to force it out of screens.

That is, until Marvel apparently decided to just re-release the damn thing.

An extended version of the damn thing, to be exact. Speaking to Comicbook.com at a press junket for Spider-Man: Far From Home, Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige confirmed that Endgame will be getting a renewed push at the box office—and it’s gonna be really soon. To boot, to entice audiences back for another three-hour stint in a movie theater seat, the re-release will include an unknown amount of new footage not seen in the original theatrical cut:

We are doing that. I don’t know if it’s been announced. And I don’t know how much... Yeah, we’re doing it next weekend.

Screenrant has a few more details from their own interview with Feige:

Not an extended cut, but there will be a version going into theaters with a bit of a marketing push with a few new things at the end of the movie. If you stay and watch the movie, after the credits, there’ll be a deleted scene, a little tribute, and a few surprises. Which will be next weekend.

When Feige says ‘next weekend’, that’s likely not this weekend—after all, Disney would probably very much like that Tony Stark and his friends don’t come stomping over the opening weekend of Toy Story 4. But could it be the end of the month? Could it be for the July 4 holiday celebrations in the U.S.?

Damn! Cash grab?
Well, the extra footage probably didn't cost that much...in case viewers stay away.

Was it a struggle to sit in a theater for three hours to watch the film?

Was it a struggle to sit in a theater for three hours to watch the film?

I got up twice during the movie and that was tolerable since I was also sitting on a recliner, it was comfortable enough lol...That's the longest movie I've ever seen in the theater...

Did the rat trigger the time machine in the van that caused the chain of events that followed? It reminds me of a story about CERN.

Sometime on Nov. 3, the supercooled magnets in sector 81 of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), outside Geneva, began to dangerously overheat. Scientists rushed to diagnose the problem, since the particle accelerator has to maintain a temperature colder than deep space in order to work. The culprit? "A bit of baguette," says Mike Lamont of the control center of CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, which built and maintains the LHC. Apparently, a passing bird may have dropped the chunk of bread on an electrical substation above the accelerator, causing a power cut. The baguette was removed, power to the cryogenic system was restored and within a few days the magnets returned to their supercool temperatures.

This super-plausible theory solves a nuclear-sized Avengers plot hole
HYDRA, is that you?

Though many of the Avengers we know and love won't be on our big screens any time soon, thanks to Disney+ we can relive our favourite Marvel movie moments again and again. And because of that, old plot holes are now being filled by actually plausible theories.

Reddit has come to the rescue of a long-standing grievance many fans have with The Avengers, the 2012 movie that now seems like it was from a lifetime ago. In it, Nick Fury is advising the World Security Council on how to deal with the Chitauri invasion of New York.

The World Security Council's plan? Drop a nuke on Manhattan! That'll solve the problem.

the-avengers-hi-res-2.jpg

Except, would it? As pointed out in the theory, opting to bomb an entire city is a drastic step for a problem that, so far, they have little details of and no other less dire plan. So why would they suggest it? Because the World Security Council was already being run by HYDRA, and they definitely want the Avengers dead at any cost.

If a bomb was dropped on the city, it would definitely kill Tony Stark, Black Widow and Hawkeye. Hulk, Thor and maybe Captain America would survive, but without financial backing and technological ingenuity from Tony, they'd be at a standstill.

It would also eliminate threats that Project Insight would later identify, like Doctor Strange. We know the timeline seems off, but by the time the Avengers are assembling in New York, HYDRA is already A Thing™ infiltrating SHIELD.

What also substantiates the theory is that despite Nick Fury refusing to let it nuke a major American city, the World Security Council was still able to get two nuclear missile-carrying jets in the air while on SHIELD's Helicarrier. It simply tapped into its HYDRA network, rather than trying to get around Fury.

Another little Easter egg to bolster this theory is that in the film, one of the World Security Council members is Gideon Malick, played by Powers Boothe. This same character later appears in Agents of SHIELD and he is, you guessed it, a HYDRA agent.

1534497080-jasper-sitwell-captain-america-the-winter-soldier-maximiliano-hernandez.jpg

There's also Jasper Sitwell, who appears on the Helicarrier and also works for Alexander Pierce, a HYDRA agent. Even if the World Security Council wasn't fully under HYDRA's thumb, the organisation clearly was easily influenced by various HYDRA members sewn throughout.

In fact, given how many HDYRA members appear innocuously throughout other films, it seems that this was deliberate on Marvel's part. Agents of SHIELD certainly confirms that HYDRA was already infiltrating SHIELD, so it's not a huge leap to presume that its motivation for dropping a nuclear bomb on Manhattan was to eliminate its enemies – the Avengers.

Marvel finally explains what happened to the Infinity Stones in present-day MCU

Avengers: Endgame may have tied a Thanos-shaped bow on all things MCU up until that point, but there was still one lingering mystery hanging over proceedings: what happened to the six Infinity Stones in the present-day Marvel universe? We now have an official answer.

At the end of Infinity War, Thanos destroys the Infinity Stones. However, in Endgame, Captain America and the team head back into the MCU timeline to pick up the Infinity Stones once more and use them to defeat Thanos. Cap then heads back in time to return the Infinity Stones back to their rightful place in the timeline, thus trying not to interfere with history so the events of Infinity War and Endgame still play out. The question many had, though, was were the Infinity Stones still around after Cap placed them back in time? Did they somehow survive Thanos wrath?

As revealed on a recent Instagram post (H/T ComicBook.com), each Stone is confirmed to have been "destroyed".

The Soul Stone, the Mind Stone, the Reality Aether, the Time Stone, the Space Stone, and the Power Stone are no more.

What that means for the immediate MCU future is up for debate. Most notably, it removes the most powerful weapon in the universe from the equation (multiverses aside), though also seemingly puts a rubber stamp on Vision’s death in Avengers: Infinity War – something that could be explored in more depth in Marvel Phase 4 and the upcoming Disney Plus series WandaVision.

It also marks the official end of the Infinity Saga: with 23 movies under its belt, the MCU must finally move on from the Stones and forward into a future that stars vampire hunters, Eternals, and maybe one or two mutants for good measure. That’s a fair trade-off.

How Many Duplicates Did Doctor Strange Make Fighting Thanos In Infinity War

Doctor Strange used a couple of spells during the Battle of Titan in Avengers: Infinity War, including one where he created clones of himself to fight Thanos – but how many duplicates did he make? After building up the arrival of Thanos and the existence of the Infinity Stones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the heroes joined forces in Avengers: Infinity War to stop the Mad Titan from collecting the Stones and thus fulfilling his chaotic plans: wiping out half of life in the universe with just the snap of his fingers.

The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the rest of the heroes of the MCU couldn’t stop Thanos from getting all the stones, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t fight to prevent a major catastrophe. The characters were divided into two groups as they battled Thanos and his army: there were those who fought the Battle of Wakanda against Thanos’ followers, and those who fought against the Mad Titan himself in his former home planet, Titan. As part of that second team was Doctor Strange, who in order to protect the Time Stone from ending up in Thanos’ hands, used various spells, including one where Thanos had to face an army of Stephen Stranges.

After failing to take the Infinity Gauntlet away from Thanos, Strange confronted him, using a stream of energy and later blocking Thanos’ attack with a gateway to the Mirror Dimension. After using a spell that transformed a black hole from the Space Stone into butterflies, Strange began to prepare a duplication spell. Strange first raised into the air with the help of the Cloak of Levitation, and then the spell began with various arms coming out of Strange’s body, a pose taken from the comics and reminiscent of that of the Hindu goddess Durga. After that, various Doctor Strange clones appeared around Thanos, increasing in number every second. While there’s no exact number of clones, as there were others off-screen (as seen in how many strings of energy are thrown at Thanos), it’s referred to as an “army” of duplicates, so there might have been around 100,000 and 150,000 Doctor Strange clones at that moment.

upload_2020-10-12_10-50-20.png

The cloning was possible thanks to the “Images of Ikonn” spell, which allows Strange to create visual duplicates of himself to cause distractions and/or evade attacks. The spell is done by invoking Ikonn, Lord of Illusions, who can create extremely believable illusions, but like everything, Strange and the rest of the sorcerers who summon it have to be careful. If Ikonn takes control over a world, it can make its illusions real, which can unleash a lot of problems. Ikonn is represented as a greyish insectoid/humanoid with dark green spines and pupil-less grey-green eyes, though being the master of illusion, this might not be its actual form. Thanks to the combined powers of the Space and Power Stones, Thanos was able to break free from the strings of energy and all the Doctor Strange clones, leaving him with the real one.

Unfortunately, the Images of Ikonn and the army of clones were not enough to prevent Thanos from taking the Time Stone from the Eye of Agamotto – although when remembering Strange’s words after seeing all possible outcomes, this was supposed to happen in order for the MCU heroes to succeed at some point in the future. There are still a number of spells the MCU can explore through Doctor Strange, and the Images of Ikonn are just a taste of what he can achieve.

My brother and I grew up from 1951-1969..then we went to college at IU Bloomington. We had several tall stacks of comics from those days..both Marvel and DC...my mom threw them all out after we left for school. :sad8:

But I kept most of my Dr Strange ones and over the years collected those I didn't have . I now have a complete first series of his comic and about half of the second early run (1968-79). Sadly I sold, gave away, or lost others like Thor, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Spiderman, Justice League , Green Lantern, Flash, X-men. etc.
