Elon Musk, What's up with that dude?

pigfarmer

tall, thin, irritable
I had serious doubts about that guy's sanity, then he went to Thailand with plans to build a submarine to rescue those kids, which was nutty enough without his other antics while some dangerous and extremely urgent rescue operations were underway by people who knew what they were doing. That episode erased all my doubts. He has done some marvelous things, but he's also batshit crazy.

Well, Howard Hughes was nuts and he turned out to be an interesting fellow

Heh. We are still talking about old Howard. It turns out I actually knew someone who used to work for him. The bookkeeper at the place my dad worked in the 70s worked for him, doing similar work back in the 30s or something. I never knew that till long after she had passed on. Dad says she told him that Katharine Hepburn was nuts. That surprised me. Apparently Howard was not awful to work for, though I'm sure it was plenty interesting.

Before Elon started acting like a character from Family Guy, I thought he was pretty cool. Oh well, I'm sure I'd be an obnoxious billionaire. Of course I'd love to find out.

State Dem tweets ‘F--- Elon Musk’ as Tesla sues, plans to shift jobs elsewhere over coronavirus rules

A California Democrat seemed less than upset Saturday night at the news that entrepreneur Elon Musk planned to pull much of his company Tesla – along with an unspecified number of jobs -- out of the state over coronavirus shutdown rules that have stalled the automaker's operations.

Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez of San Diego appeared to be saying something along the lines of “Good riddance” – except she didn’t exactly use those words.

“F--- Elon Musk,” was Gonzalez’s brief response on Twitter.

Her message contrasted sharply with those from lawmakers and candidates in Texas and Nevada, where Musk said his company plans to relocate. They seemed pleased with the news that jobs would be coming to their states instead of leaving.

“Texas gets better every day,” U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, wrote on Twitter, retweeting Musk’s announcement of Tesla’s planned California pullout. “Good conservative principles make good governance, and attract the best and the brightest. The future is happening in Texas.”

In Nevada, Dan Rodimer – a retired professional wrestler running for Congress as a Republican – also welcomed the Tesla news.

“Nevada NEEDS these jobs most of all right now, @elonmusk,” Rodimer wrote. “We would love to have you and Tesla HQ right here in the Battleborn State!”

Whatever happened to the underground tunnels he planned to dig under Los Angeles, did that flop?...

...

No, L.A. tunnels are really sound idea. He had shown his business plan and it makes perfect sense. Those who will be able to afford them would make a huge cut in their commuting times. It's perfectly reasonable that thousands of execs will pay for the privilege.

Dude is a loose cannon.

Exactly. Hormonally speaking he's into his 50s and going through his last big ego trip. Same as Donald Trump. But ego trips are always easier when you are a billionaire.

Elon Musk reopens Tesla factory closed by coronavirus: 'If anyone is arrested, I ask that it only be me'

Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed Monday he's flouting county rules by reopening a Northern California plant amid concerns over safety during the coronavirus crisis, tweeting: "I will be on the line with everyone else. If anyone is arrested, I ask that it only be me."

The parking lot of the Fremont, Calif., facility was full, Fox 2 reported, even as Musk and Almeda County officials continue to spar over shelter-in-place rules that have prevented the electric-vehicle giant from reopening since March 23.

Musk tweeted, "Tesla is restarting production today against Alameda County rules. I will be on the line with everyone else. If anyone is arrested, I ask that it only be me." He also wrote: "California approved, but an unelected county official illegally overrode. Also, all other auto companies in US are approved to resume. Only Tesla has been singled out. This is super messed up!"

The county later responded in a statement: "We have notified Tesla that they can only maintain Minimum Basic Operations until we have an approved plan that can be implemented in accordance with the local public health order. We are addressing this matter using the same phased approach we use for other businesses which have violated the order in the past, and we hope that Tesla will likewise comply without further enforcement measures."

At a Monday news conference, Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, said he was hopeful the company could resume operations next week.

Howard Hughes can be excused, because he was involved in so many plane crashes, where in each one he had violent concussions, that his brain was in a worst state than that of a heavy weight boxer's.

I know there are plenty of people who disapprove of Elon Musk. These people pissed and moaned when Musk smoked a joint on the Joe Rogan program. Frankly, get a life! I tend to give a pass to a genius inventor who happens to provide thousands of jobs for people. Is this guy a saint? Far from it. But perhaps these people who criticize from their glass houses should take a step back for a moment.

I vote Elon for next POTUS :ex8:

That guy can create highly paid jobs like nobody else on the planet.

Forget tariffs on China goods, just move onto the next level up.

Elon Musk Irks Egyptian Officials by Suggesting Aliens Built the Pyramids

By Tim Binnall

In a strange fracas that unfolded over the weekend, Elon Musk irked officials in Egypt when he suggested that extraterrestrials constructed the country's iconic pyramids. The weirdness reportedly began on Friday when the mercurial SpaceX founder Tweeted that it was obvious that "aliens built the pyramids." Musk's strange musings caught fire online as over a half-million people liked the conspiratorial tweet and tens-of-thousands of people on social media shared the extraterrestrial declaration.

As one can imagine, the Tesla CEO's comments did not sit well with officials in Egypt, who have undoubtedly heard the theory countless times and insist that there is no scientific basis for such a claim. To that end, the country's Minister of International Cooperation, Rania al-Mashat, wrote that while she admires Musk's work, she encouraged him to "explore the writings about how the pyramids were built and also to check out the tombs of the pyramid builders."

Meanwhile, Egypt's former Minister of Antiquities, Zawi Hawass was far less diplomatic, declaring to Musk that "what you said about the pyramids is completely hallucination." He went on to point out several pieces of evidence which indicate that the construction of the structures was "a national project of the whole nation" during the reign of the pharaoh Khufu. Offering something of a conspiracy theory of his own, Hawass postulated that Musk's tweet was simply an attempt at garnering attention.

For his part, Musk subsequently backed down from the alien assertion and shared a BBC article which he argued "provides a sensible summary for how" the pyramids were actually built by humans. The bizarre dust up is not the first time that the billionaire has made news by way of an odd extraterrestrial tweet as, back in January of 2019, he sparked headlines when he shared a meme which connected Neil Armstrong to aliens. While some might suspect that he may be tipping his hand about some kind of secret knowledge concerning the subject, that may not necessarily be the case as he told an audience in October of last year that he's seen no sign of aliens during his work with SpaceX.
