Civil Unrest & Protests

Minneapolis City Council voted to abolish the city's police force in what they call a veto proof majority vote...An astonishing display of stupidity in my opinion, let the gangs and mobs take over, everything will be fine...

...
Norman, OK (KOKH) — Amid mounting calls to "defund the police", Norman City Council’s budget meeting on Tuesday was swarmed with citizens urging them to slash police funding and others speaking out against it.

The meeting lasted about 11 hours before a decision was made.

After hours of heated debate, the council ultimately passed the budget, which included an $865,000 budget cut, in an 8-1 vote.

The police sure came in handy today for the whiny liberal Mayor of Richmond!

I think I may protest myself ... parade around in front of the house with a big sign that says 'F**K ME !!!!"

I'll make sure to wear a mask.

I normally keep away from political threads and seldom comment on them because I hate to loose friends lol.
But I would just like to say that this kind of 'P.C-Madness' is actually driving me crazy .. to the point of not watching any current affairs on T.V at all!
But I did get caught out the other morning when the GM-Britain show [I think it was] had one of my favourite personalities on [via internet of course] and that was actor and comedian Omid Djalili , it was a very disappointing and boring interview, that was only on to hammer this P.C strengthening initiative [that is being vastly overdone] even further into our tiny little caveman-like-brains by the 'obviously more sophisticated woke-folk' that have taken over that world over the last few years.
And to cut a long story short.... it generally angered me that the interviewers allowed my old comedic-actor-friend Omid to out and out say that it was not only to be considered racist [and all kinds of nasty things] for a 'Caucasian actor or comedian' to portray an 'ethnic person' either in fun or serious role … it was absolutely alright to reverse the situation and an ethnic person could indeed play a Caucasian person … because they were in the minority and the majority should not be offended!
Unbelievable I know! … I couldn't believe what I was watching and turned off the T.V in disbelief! … why the hell did nobody mention the fact that from the 7.8 billion people in the world today, that there is only approximately 760,000,000 Caucasians!! ...so who the fak are the minority races that he is on about???? :evil2:

...right, rant over! … carry on and ignore me please. :biggrinn8:

Cheers Buddy.

I am somewhat surprised. I would have thought Omid to me a lot more down to Earth. Obviously not!

At what point is it acceptable for a minority to portray a different race?

A black person portraying a white person seems to be acceptable but I wonder if for example a black person portraying an asian (which I believe Eddie Murphy has done) is acceptable to them?

If there is any good news to share, I had a heckuva long wait at the doctor's office yesterday. The lobby was full of all kinds of folks: white, black, Asian, Hispanic, rich, poor, everything in between. And, everybody was civil and got along just fine.

Yesterday I posted something on Facebook about the businesses near where I live. I lamented the destruction and looting and I commented that I believe it will take years before the city comes back fully economically.

I never make political comments on FB. I have never taken a stand on the statues or the local politicians. I see FB as a tool to communicate with friends and relatives.

Two people jumped on my post (both of them white and college educated BTW) and said I was being racist and reactionary for my comments about urban decline. Things have become completely ridiculous.

Sitting here for 6 hours waiting for a tow truck because of the riots.

I soooo needed a laugh and this post from you, 1963 had me laughing so hard it made my tummy hurt.

Thank you, I really needed that. :D
This stuff is even going on in Canada?

I think that is an effect purely produced by social media. Social media has this huge power to rise crowds and even topple governments.

In essence, it is a form of "road rage", because there is a physical barrier, here both time & space over the Internet, so really unhappy and frustrated people (which is most of us at some point) can pour their anger onto others without fearing backlash.

Historically, in normal face-to-face conversation, people used to avoid talking politics just to avoid emotions. But because social media is not face-to-face nobody cares anymore about stiring other people up.

Apparently so. I don't have television and I don't get out much.

The driver said he was running all night because the police calls take priority. He said all his scheduled appointments have been very upset because he was running 6 hours behind schedule.

Tens of thousands of Black Lives Matter protesters march on UK cities for a fourth straight weekend as scuffles break out between football hooligan troublemakers and police in Glasgow

Black Lives Matter (BLM) protesters are preparing to march on UK cities for the fourth consecutive weekend as hundreds of demonstrators gather in Hyde Park before storming Parliament Square. Protesters have assembled at Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park (main, top inset) to listen to activists call for the removal of Munira Mirza, Boris Johnson's policy chief, as head of the new race inequality commission. The crowd is expected to march through London city centre and protest at Parliament at around 4pm. In Scotland, hundreds of people flocked to an anti-racism rally in George Square in Glasgow (bottom left) this morning, despite police telling locals to stay away from mass gatherings in public spaces. Scuffles broke out between football-hooligan troublemakers and police in the Scottish city, before over 100 police officers in attendance at the square 'kettled' anti-racism demonstrators. Forces across the UK are expecting crowds of demonstrators to take to the streets in London as well as cities including Birmingham and Newcastle (bottom right) in support of the BLM movement.

One man is dead and 11 others wounded in Minneapolis shooting after 'individuals on foot fired 80 rounds' leaving store front windows shot out and victims sprawled on the sidewalk

The area is about three miles west of the Minneapolis commercial area and neighborhood hit by rioting in the wake of George Floyd´s May 25 death. Minnesota began allowing bars and restaurants to reopen with limited service on June 1 after some six weeks of closure because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Police had not yet released details on what led to the shooting which is reported to have involved people firing 'around 80 rounds' at each other. No one was in custody in connection with the shooting as of 4 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicated that 'individuals on foot' started shooting around 12:30 a.m. and later fled the scene. The victims have not been identified.

Photographs posted to social media show windows at the Landmark's Uptown Theatre and another storefront shot out. Screams were audible on a live video posted to Facebook that showed the aftermath at the scene.
