How is The Coronavirus affecting your life?

For the life of me, I do not understand the resistance many people are giving to the thought of wearing a mask. If the situation was framed as wearing a mask in order to not pass along the Covid virus you would think that would be the perfect argument. Is it that a certain segment of our country believes their civil rights are being ignored?

Are we as a nation so selfish that we won’t look out for other people’s health? When I see photos of people packed together at a beach or partying at a bar or restaurant and very few have a mask on, it just blows my mind. Haven’t these people read any of the articles that state you are opening yourself up to getting the virus as well as passing it along to others? It’s quite sad when I think of all this misery and some of it can be prevented.

If they are going to make it mandatory to wear masks then they should be provided free of cost for everyone living at or under the poverty level.

Anyone like myself who has no way of wearing a mask for medical reasons should be given alternative methods kinda like this.

Dunno about herd immunity, but herd behavior - yup. I had a longer post but figured saying 'what a bunch of dumbasses' about sums it up. Party in groups, drop dead alone.

I wonder if they had Black Death parties way back when. Dance, drink, be merry ... and then vomit up all your insides. Don't need a mask, I got a pocketful of posies.

Not talking about you personally so please don't take this the wrong way- but I encounter people who make that claim every day. For every real claim there are probably a hundred that aren't. I see a lot of people wearing cheap plastic shield that don't even touch your face. No idea if they work but it's at least a fig leaf.

I would think that a medical problem that would prevent a person from wearing a mask would make them very cautious to go out without one, period. My brother has an autoimmune disease and wears an N95 on the very, very few occasions he's had to venture out. He is literally in a high risk category. Every year pneumonia is a problem, this is beyond serious for him. He gets what he really needs delivered.

The putzes that make that claim and then go to retail stores to buy absolute s**t are full of absolute s**t, IMO. Pardon me if I don't take such a claim seriously when they are casually shopping for nonsense. Around here retailers will hand you a mask if you don't have one - but there are rarely takers.

I didn't wait for someone to hand me one - when this started you couldn't get any. I made my own. Not a burden if I have to go into the supermarket for 15 minutes. Even if it's 100% ineffective at stopping the virus it is effective on one small way - it shows some respect toward others.

I happen to be one of the 1% of women who absolutely hate shopping of any kind. I went to 7-11 on the corner yesterday evening. It was my first time out of my apartment since I dropped my car at the mechanics on June 15th. He still has it.

You need to take a few deep breaths and calm down a little, pigfarmer, seriously, you are going to give yourself a heart attack. You have been overly stressed since this all began.

You sound like I did when I first discovered ET had my address. It took me awhile but, eventually I realized that it's not my job to save the world. This virus does not have your address, pigfarmer, it's not personal and you cannot save the world. You can only share what you know with others and hope for the best.

It isn't much but, we can still give cyber hugs. x11

It's better than nothing, right? Do you have any idea how difficult it is for me not to touch/hug my friends when I see them? I am Canadian ya know. We are known for being super nice and friendly. :)

When the virus first broke my wife and I made our own masks. We eventually bought some decent masks online. I think I have been in two stores since this Covid business began. My wife gets the groceries etc. She has a bad case of cabin fever right now so she goes on long walks out where we live in a rural setting.

A telephone technician ran into the mailboxes posts where all 4 of my neighbors have their boxes. These posts are 40 years old and need to be replaced. The neighbors had to be contacted and told to be ready and pay their share for the materials etc. The boxes are physically on my neighbors property so he is doing most of the legwork. This is probably the most contact the neighborhood has had in months.

I hear you. But walk a mile in my shoes. Or, more accurately, 5-8 miles per day .....

If I could just quit I would

I'm sporting blue medical grade when in shops. I kind of like it as mouthing obscenities with smiling eyes has an appeal.

Yet another reason and example of why we need to wear masks and keep our distance socially for a while, I doubt any of these infants who are testing positive have their immune systems developed to a point where they can fight off this thing well...

...

85 infants under age 1 tested positive for coronavirus in one Texas county

.
I do know that my great niece, who is 2 1/2 years old, doesn’t wear a mask at her day care center. They don’t require the kids to wear them.

I wouldn't put a mask on a one-year-old infant if I had a baby however I would not take the infant out in public and I would definitely be sure that anybody that came in close proximity with that baby wore a mask...

So a neighbor down the road from me is having a kids birthday pool party tomorrow, big sign out front on his property, balloons everywhere, I'm told 0ver 20 kids are a comin' with parents and other family members...Nothing has been said about masks and social distancing, I would think its kind of hard to wear a mask whilst swimming in a pool...These people are wealthy, big house, inground cement pool, pool house and outside bathrooms, I've been over there once a few years ago...I won't be attending, he did send an invite to the closer neighbors like myself, they are grilling food and he has a bar in the sunroom, liquor and beer stocked...Yeah, I'll wish his son a happy birthday from my house over the phone and thank him for the invite, I don't have to mention any coronavirus concerns, he knows how I am about that lol...

If everyone would have just voluntarily use masks there would be no need for mandates, no extra laws or fines for not wearing as we see in some counties and states, there would be no need for such strict conditions...

I'm thinking of course in terms of where that location is, in Texas with the virus out of control in a much different situation...I'm quite astonished that my neighbors are having a kids pool party in the middle of a pandemic, but the virus spread is not like it is in Texas nor Florida, still though without social distancing my area of NC could flare up quickly...

My wife and I were in her vehicle when we drove past a yard sale. There were a number of people without masks on. I had to wonder what was so urgent as to have a yard sale during a pandemic. I guess certain people think that if they are outside they don’t need to wear a mask even when others are close at hand. Lately I am having a hard time understanding people’s motives.

Agreed. I think the masks are important- it's one big difference between here and other places. We're still sort of locked down - restaurants, bars, gyms, etc closed. Numbers have been on the decline. The proof is in the pudding.

@michael59 is absolutely right about me - this is driving me bananas. I find myself extremely provoked by people without masks who want to get in my face and if I don't lighten up I'm going to snap.
