PIERS MORGAN: COVID-19 is a deadly threat that Trump has shamefully bungled but cynical Democrats are presiding over a violent culture war against America's heroes and history that could destroy it

Last week, protesters threatened to tear down Abraham Lincoln's statue in Washington DC. It was built to commemorate the Emancipation Proclamation, an executive order signed by the Lincoln that put an end to slavery in the Confederacy. The statue was intended to be a celebration of slaves being set free, one of the most important moments in the whole history of the country. Now, Boston has decided to remove an exact replica of the statue. Pressure is growing on Washington to the same. And students at the University of Wisconsin have demanded another statue, just of Lincoln alone, be removed.

I despair at what is happening in America. I despair at President Trump's response to it because he's being typically inflammatory in a dog-whistle effort to fire up his base with just months to an election he now looks like losing. But I particularly despair at the woeful inaction of Democrats who are sitting back and watching all this crazy nonsense happen and doing nothing to stop it. The party's presidential nominee Joe Biden launched a ferocious attack on Trump yesterday, saying he has 'surrendered' to coronavirus. It was a perfectly justified allegation given America's shocking COVID-19 death toll and the devastating surge in cases all over the country.

But this savage, unrelenting culture war may end up causing even more lasting damage as it seeks to destroy everything the nation was built on and everyone who built it. And Biden and the Democrats have surrendered to those waging it with the same cowardly inaction that Trump has shown towards the coronavirus.

Woman dies and rescuers race to find any others trapped after 65ft crane COLLAPSES on homes in east London - as neighbour whose house was hit says the impact felt 'like an earthquake'

Pictures from the building site on Gale Street in Bow showed gaping holes in the roof and through a nearby fence. Several cars were also covered in dust and debris after the colossal structure crashed down at around 2pm. London Ambulance Service have confirmed that one person died at the scene. Four others were injured, two were rushed to hospital with head injuries and the others were treated on the street. Firefighters are now trying to free at least one person who is believed to be trapped inside one of the two terraced houses struck by the crane. A woman whose home was damaged by the crane said her family are lucky to be alive. In a shaking voice, the woman who did not want to give her name, said the structure's impact felt 'like an earthquake'. 'I came out of the bathroom and if I had come out a second later, the attic door which is above could have fallen on me and that would have knocked me out.' She said. 'The way that everything fell - if my brother or sister had been in their rooms which is where it hit directly, I just cannot bear to think about it. If you could see the state of our garden.' PICTURED: the crane is bent over the roof of an unfinished building while its end lies on the ground after ripping the roof off two terraced houses, main; firefighters peer into the sunken roof, top right; and the mangled beams of the structure beside the cab of the crane, bottom right.

Top NYT editor's scathing resignation letter exposes how vicious, leftist bullies run newsroom

Bari Weiss Resignation Letter

(excerpts)

But the lessons that ought to have followed the election—lessons about the importance of understanding other Americans, the necessity of resisting tribalism, and the centrality of the free exchange of ideas to a democratic society—have not been learned. Instead, a new consensus has emerged in the press, but perhaps especially at this paper: that truth isn’t a process of collective discovery, but an orthodoxy already known to an enlightened few whose job is to inform everyone else.

Twitter is not on the masthead of The New York Times. But Twitter has become its ultimate editor. As the ethics and mores of that platform have become those of the paper, the paper itself has increasingly become a kind of performance space. Stories are chosen and told in a way to satisfy the narrowest of audiences, rather than to allow a curious public to read about the world and then draw their own conclusions. I was always taught that journalists were charged with writing the first rough draft of history. Now, history itself is one more ephemeral thing molded to fit the needs of a predetermined narrative.

---------------

Still other New York Times employees publicly smear me as a liar and a bigot on Twitter with no fear that harassing me will be met with appropriate action. They never are.

There are terms for all of this: unlawful discrimination, hostile work environment, and constructive discharge. I’m no legal expert. But I know that this is wrong.

----------------

What rules that remain at The Times are applied with extreme selectivity. If a person’s ideology is in keeping with the new orthodoxy, they and their work remain unscrutinized. Everyone else lives in fear of the digital thunderdome. Online venom is excused so long as it is directed at the proper targets.

---------------

All this bodes ill, especially for independent-minded young writers and editors paying close attention to what they’ll have to do to advance in their careers. Rule One: Speak your mind at your own peril. Rule Two: Never risk commissioning a story that goes against the narrative. Rule Three: Never believe an editor or publisher who urges you to go against the grain. Eventually, the publisher will cave to the mob, the editor will get fired or reassigned, and you’ll be hung out to dry.

MUFON Executive Director Jan Harzan arrested on charges related to attempting to solicit a minor.

The executive director of the Mutual UFO Network, one of the oldest UFO research organizations in the United States, has been arrested on charges of soliciting a minor “for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity,” according to police. Jan Harzan, who has headed MUFON since 2013, is accused of soliciting “sexual activity from a detective he believed was a 13-year-old girl,” according to a release from the Huntington Beach, CA police department.

In recent years, the UFO research world has been flooded with Pizzagate-esque allegations, falsely linking scientific and government elites to the occult sexual abuse of children, and accusing the government of releasing UFO videos to cover up pedophile rings. Harzan’s arrest is almost certain to reignite those controversies.

Court records show that Harzan was arrested on charges of “communicating with a minor with intent to engage in a lewd act,” as well as “arranging a meeting to engage with a lewd act with a minor in public.”

Harzan, MUFON, and the Huntington Beach Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Damn! I would never have expected this from him.

Just when ufology seemed to be moving forward, it gets another black eye. And considering Harzan's high profile, and before now, respectability, this is worse than the Stan Romanek case.

Hopefully, somehow MUFON can recover from this and take it as an opportunity to reform itself.

'New York is going to die': Ex Gov. George Pataki says Big Apple is in jeopardy, brands de Blasio a 'disaster' and slams Cuomo's handling of COVID-19 as he reveals he might run against the Governor - like when he stopped his father Mario

The three-term Republican governor, 75, has been out of politics for more than a decade but was contemplating the possibility of running against Governor Andrew Cuomo in 2022. China 'orders Christians to destroy crosses on their churches and take down images of Jesus in intensifying crackdown on religion'

Chinese officials have reportedly ordered some Christians to smash the crosses on their churches and remove images of Jesus from their homes. Authorities have recently destroyed religious symbols by force in churches in multiple provinces, including Anhui, Jiangsu, Hebei and Zhejiang, according to US-based news site Radio Free Asia.

Furthermore, officials of Shanxi, another region, demanded religious images be taken down and replaced with pictures of Communist leaders at the homes of impoverished believers, said independent outlet Bitter Winter. The reports come as China is facing unprecedented criticism against its tight control over its religious population, especially the Muslim ethnic minorities.

Officials in charge of religious affairs in Huainan in the eastern province of Anhui allegedly barged into the local Shiwan Christ Church to dismantle its cross on Saturday and Sunday. The officials had required the church to take down its cross a week earlier, reported Radio Free Asia citing local sources.

When they arrived at the venue to impose the order by force at the weekend, they were met with dozens of believers who had gathered to try to prevent them from bulldozing the holy sign, the article claimed. Similar scenes were said to occur in Yongjia in Zhejiang Province on July 7.

The local government sent a crane and nearly 100 workers to demolish the crosses on Ao'di Christ Church and Yinchang Christ Church, according to US-based pressure group China Aid. Local believers told the group that government workers forced their way into the churches, smashed the churches' properties and beat up the Christians, including a woman in her 80s, who tried to stop them.
