Deadly Wuhan Coronavirus

Wait until Trump has had it a while before accepting official assurances that his case is "mild". Boris Johnson's case, the Prime Minister's office kept reassuring us, was also mild. That is, until Johnson had to go into the ICU at about day 10 after showing symptoms.

Yeah and given the age of President Trump I got the feeling he might see a hospital before it's over...

Trump has COVID-19. I am honestly not that shocked. If you downplay a virus in the middle of a pandemic, you probably aren't taking the greatest care to avoid it. And this happened with WAY more resources available and the option of a stronger "bubble" away from the general masses than most of us can afford or have. Let this be a reminder that we are all at risk, so stay away from people when possible and wear a mask.

To my friends that think this is a trick to get out of debates and show how "COVID-19 is no big deal": I would like to think that even he wouldn't stoop that low. Not when downplaying the virus could lead to the suffering and deaths of so many people. But there is a tiny part of me that does think he may go for a "Hail Mary" like this, due to the current election predictions. I just really, really hope no president of the USA would ever do something that low and horrible. Regardless, please continue to wear your masks and stay socially distant from people that do not live inside your home.

To my friends and family that are worried for him and his family: you are kind and I admire that. Now lend that kindness to all of the families that have or are currently suffering from this virus, both the sickness and the deaths caused by it. Use that kindness to try to prevent the spread of the virus to other people. WEAR YOUR MASKS IN PUBLIC AND AVOID PEOPLE WHO LIVE OUTSIDE OF YOUR HOMES!

Joe Biden announced that he and his wife have tested negative for the virus...If he was exposed to covid from President Trump isn't there an incubation period before positive test results appear along with symptoms?...

I don't really care about the election. I just don't like Donald Trump. The prominence your President and your election have internationally is something that Americans do not experience of another country.

The US election is something that is ram-rodded down our throats, whether we like it or not. This for example is the current homepage of the BBC News website (aimed at British users):

In addition to the prominent coverage given to Trump in the articles, notice that the categories of news along the top of the page. "Home", "Coronavirus", and then "US Election".

Never thought of that. I have a few news apps and BBC News is one of them. You’re right, it looks the same as here with all the election vomitus

"Results:
Over the 4 days of infection before the typical time of symptom onset (day 5), the probability of a false-negative result in an infected person decreases from 100% (95% CI, 100% to 100%) on day 1 to 67% (CI, 27% to 94%) on day 4. On the day of symptom onset, the median false-negative rate was 38% (CI, 18% to 65%). This decreased to 20% (CI, 12% to 30%) on day 8 (3 days after symptom onset) then began to increase again, from 21% (CI, 13% to 31%) on day 9 to 66% (CI, 54% to 77%) on day 21."

If Biden was exposed to the virus on the 29th at the Presidential debate, we're only on day three (the third 24-hour period) post-exposure. The expectation would be that Biden would develop symptoms on day five, if he was to develop Covid from the exposure. A test on day three of an infected individual has a nearly 100% chance of giving a false negative, as per the top graph in the figure above. The day with the lowest probability of giving a false negative is day seven.

In short, Biden isn't out of the woods on the basis of a negative PCR test today.

I generally read UK news sources before I do American sources, so although I do understand you're point, I am equally put off by huge coverage about your elections and news about the royal family in the Daily Mail, BBC, and Sky news and others...Its simply news I'm not much interested in but some sites spam pages and pages regurgitating basically the same thing...

Trump to be taken to Walter Reed Medical Center for further COVID treatment

President Trump is being transferred to Walter Reed Military Medical Center "out of an abundance of caution," the White House said Friday, after testing positive for COVID-19 and experiencing "mild symptoms."

"President Trump remains in good spirits, has mild symptoms, and has been working throughout the day," White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said in a statement Friday.

"Out of an abundance of caution, and at the recommendation of his physician and medical experts, the President will be working from the presidential offices at Walter Reed for the next few days," she said. "President Trump appreciates the outpouring of support for both he and the First Lady."

Prior to moving to Walter Reed, on Friday afternoon, Dr. Sean P. Conley, the president’s physician, released an update on the president's condition.

“Following PCR-confirmation of the President’s diagnosis, as a precautionary measure he received a single 8-gram dose of Regeneron’s polyclonal antibody cocktail,” a memo released Friday afternoon by Dr. Sean P. Conley, the president’s physician, stated. "He completed the infusion without incident.”

"In addition tot he polyclonal antibodies, the President has been taking zinc, Vitamin D, famotidine, melatonin and a daily aspirin," Conley said. Conley added that "as of this afternoon, the President remains fatigued but in good spirts."

"He’s being evaluated by a team of experts, and together we’ll be making recommendations to the President and First Lady in regards to next best steps," Conley said. Conley added that the first lady "remains well with only a mild cough and headache, and the remainder of the First Family are well and tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 today."

I just saw the live briefing. We live in interesting times. President Obama make some decent remarks and although it won't happen it would be nice to turn the hate dial down a touch.

Random thoughts

Just heard some railing on CNN after the briefing. Just thought I'd mention this again - another 'do as I do not as I say, the rules are for others': Coronavirus-spreader Chris Cuomo got a lecture for breaking quarantine, and he's upset about it
Old news but if (when, actually) you happen to hear the hair-on-fire shrieking about how DT spreading the virus remember this. That's just the quarantine violation that he got caught doing.

The other is that The Democrats seem a bit hollow without a direct target to assault daily. Without DT they lose definition. Maybe they could spend some of this unexpected down time coming up with realistic plans for some of our problems.
Just saying.

I sometimes listen to WAMC - an NPR station out of Schenectady and its waaaaaaaay left. That's due to this guy: Alan Chartock Another case of someone you dislike that you keep listening to. Point is, on Capitol Connection these past two mornings you would think it's a funeral - definitely not what I was expecting. They are talking about how this has empowered DT. I was in my truck and didn't get to hear all of it. Maybe if I did it would have made some sense to me.

One of the sad situations of the Corona virus is that everyone seems to need a handout these days. It’s not just everyday businesses. The periodicals I subscribe to are all asking for money. I might be able to give a donation to a select few but not to all.

One magazine states that more of their online content is moving from free to pay. I understand the need to raise money, I wonder how many people will be shelling out for something that was once free on the website. There is going to be a ground shift in my opinion. Many businesses will go by the wayside and a segment of the population will need to change jobs and careers. It’s going to get uglier before it gets better.

The article says that he announced his SARS-Cov-2 positive status on the 31st of March, by the 12th of April he would no longer have been infectious. However, the article does mention that his wife was announced to be positive also four days later, and he had brought her along for the trip.

To bring Trump into it is a tu quoque argument. Chris Cuomo may be of the left, but he is not in public office and is a private individual. He may evidence hypocrisy in his behaviour and his actions may have been wrong, but that has no bearing on criticisms of Donald Trump, who is not in an equivalent position to Chris Cuomo, as President of the US.
