In a mood to watch these today. I would like to drop my mother-in-law from a great height. She's a dangerous weapon left over from long ago.

FF to about the 22 minute mark. Cool old mechanical countdown timer

Schumer says he had ‘serious talk’ with Feinstein, sidesteps questions about Judiciary Committee post

Dianne Feinstein committed the grievous error of being nice to Amy Barrett and Lindsay Graham.

The concept of 'friends after six' is gone, assuming it ever existed. Imagine Nancy Pelosi and Donald Trump actually being close friends in personal life. What if The Speaker was very upset that she couldn't go to DT's birthday party because of how it would look? The story might be apocryphal but that was supposed to have happened between Tip O'Neill and Ronald Reagan. Thinking it might be true gives me some comfort.

Watching Graham and Feinstein hug seemed perfectly human and reassuring that there might be one or two normal people in government (other than Fauci). Now she'll be crucified for it.

Well just because halloween is only a couple of days away .. [and my grandkids are all so excited] I thought that i'd post this piece of [les than current] news from The Knoxville Journal, Knoxville, Tennessee, 20 Apr 1934 that I just came across...

In April, 1934, a "witch dog" terrorized Brushy Valley, Tennessee. The name suggests traditional stories about witches turning themselves into animals. Someone shoots or stabs the animal and the next day a local woman is found trying to conceal an identical wound ("wound doubling"). A big dog was eventually shot, but it's unclear if that was the end of the story. ("The Knoxville Journal", Knoxville, Tennessee, 20 Apr 1934)
... happy Hallowe'en. pumpkin6

Yikes ! Tough to watch.

Not condoning it but if you stop to think about why that cop might know how to do that in the first place it might add some perspective.

Shocking video captures cop body-slamming woman in handcuffs

https://nypost.com/2020/10/30/shocking-video-captures-cop-body-slamming-woman-in-handcuffs/

Dunn had arrested Kafi for breaching a court-imposed curfew and obstruction of justice after she allegedly provided a fake name when the vehicle she’d been traveling in was pulled over by police.
... So, this little woman wasn't Bonnie Parker then? ..And so hardly an immediate danger to the cop's safety then, even if we are to believe that she is some kind of freakish contortionist that can touch his hand without it showing on camera! .. Absolutely nobody but a child killer deserves that kind of treatment!
Race and ethnicity struggle aside... I was always led to believe that the purpose of a cop was "To Serve And Protect" [or something like that] ... and the fact is that the cop on the film [Dunn] was doing neither of those two duties there... he was in fact committing a serious assault that was lucky didn't kill the girl, because she wasn't being as compliant as he demanded. ... in short it was complete thuggery that should have seen him serving time in prison instead of being "suspended with pay" and then being "let back to work in an administrative role".
... I guess that cops all around the world are pretty much above the law of the land! :(

Cheers.

I liked Sean Connery in the movie The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, it wasn't a popular movie but I enjoyed it...

Actually, from what I know Bonnie Parker's health sucked and when she was killed she was in tough shape. Don't think she could walk. Something about acid burns, maybe from a car wreck.

Looking at that again it occurred to me that if he knew that maneuver he probably knew others and he pulled the wrong one out of his bag of tricks. No defense for that but I can say that my niece's long term b/f was a CO for a few years. Women, even small women can be a handful and he has the war stories and scars to show for it. He doesn't talk about it much. I'd like to see what he has to say about it.

*** ALERT - old boring war story coming ***

Back in the '80s I worked with an older guy. Very nervous, quiet, annoyingly obsequious in fact. Greasy too and covered in bad crude ink. But he was a sweetheart and such nice guy even if you didn't really want him sitting on your best furniture. Carried nitro pills in his pocket for a heart condition. One day he came to work white as a sheet and bloody and totally discombobulated. We gave him a pill under his tongue and after he calmed down he explained that on his way to work on the mountainous road he lives on he slid a bit in his old Dodge Dart and bumped into the rear end of a new pickup truck. He said it didn't cause any damage but before he could react a young guy was pounding on his door screaming and yelling. The exact sequence of events isn't totally clear, but this man's road rage must have been epic. When my friend got out this young guy reached out and grabbed my friend by the neck tie.

Well, what the young feller didn't know was that this man was career US Army and that he spent quite a bit of that time teaching unarmed combat. No doubt when he woke up there was a lesson to be learned in there somewhere. Talk about misjudging someone because of size.

Several days later one of our guys was asking - badgering really - my friend about it and he really wouldn't get into it. But once or twice he shut this loudmouth up instantly - one was a poke right under his nose above his top lipin that weird little snot groove. Took all the steam right out of an athletic man and sat him down for several minutes. Must be a nerve. Reminds me of Fred Ward in Remo Williams

So apart from a stroll down memory lane, I think some people develop skills like that because no matter the veneer they're still insecure bullies underneath. Then there's the professional who know just what to do, which are unfortunately in short supply.

The lesson is clear: joy kills! ("Los Angeles Evening Post-Record", Los Angeles, California, 9 Dec 1927.)
