A new generation of robots is racing to outpace Olympic sprinters and animals like Cheetahs | Daily Mail Online
A new generation of dexterous robots are making strides faster than ever before - literally.

Advances in both mechanics and intelligent software designed after members of the animal kingdom - including humans - are pushing an increasing number of robotics companies closer to parity with the fastest members of their kind.

As reported by Popular Mechanics, organizations like the Institute for Human & Machine Cognition (IHMC) have been plucking away at making a robot called the Planar Elliptical Runner (PER) - a bipedal bot that relies mostly on mechanics.

Truthiness
Athletic robot.

I will avoid the obvious doom and gloom robot overlord future part. I'm just curious, With Quantum computing making strides, Someday we will be able to create artificial intelligence that is indistinguishable from a human being.

Whether it will be sentient and conscious is entirely another subject within the topic of AI, But truthfully we aren't that far away from complicated programs that are able to pass the Turing test. Turing test - Wikipedia some programs already have passed this test.

When we have machines that think like humans and act like humans indistinguishably, will we be forced to treat them as other humans? I suppose this is almost a sociopolitical question. To make this easier to answer, Do you guys believe someday in a distant future we will be forced to Treat creations that were made in an assembly line, with the same regard we give human life?

Meet Digit

Digit, our latest product, addresses the mobility limitations of traditional robots, so that machines can work in environments designed for humans. Digit features robust walking and running gaits, perception to enable stair climbing and autonomous navigation in unstructured environments, and arms for basic manipulation tasks. Major features include:
  • Upper torso with integrated sensing, computing, and two 4-DOF arms
  • Extra bay for additional computing and custom payload integration
  • 2-DOF feet for improved balance and stability on a wide variety of surfaces.
  • Sealed joints for all-weather outdoor operation.
  • UN 38.3 certified battery for cargo air shipment.
  • Comprehensive software API that leverages our controls, perception and autonomy algorithms to develop end-user applications
  • Low level API for customers wanting to develop their own controller
Digit is shipping now.

As long as no machine gun, I'm not worried.
