I think that I have always been in the minority of ETH proponents with regards to this case... inasmuch as "I never believed that Hickson and Parker were abducted!" ... They, in my opinion may well have seen something, perhaps even witnessed a UFO relatively close up. ... After all they were in the right place at the right time, bang smack in the middle of that almighty UFO-flap of the American mid-west [including Mississippi] of 1973... so for me, so far fine as it goes... but the rest of their story never did ring true to me personally! ... And then the amount of tweaking-up on the story [especially on Parker's side .. from 0-100mph.] over the years never adds any authenticity to my mind! ... And things like this that you mention , when witnesses spring up from nowhere after almost half a century to corroborate a story that is universally celebrated and has never been far away from the headlines... but waits all that time to 'back-up the surviving witnesses story' that has been called out as being a liar with a made-up-story for the best part of 50 years by all the critics and debunkers' ... should I come forward and try to negate the accusations of the pair of them being 'big fat liars'? ... or should I wait for 45 years or so and try to cash in on Calvin Parker's latest payday? [and possibly last due to his age] ... to do that, I think it might be prudent to wait until Calvin is ready to release a new book [no doubt with a few added details that time has made him remember] his documentary, and his upcoming movie on the alleged ordeal. [that in his original testimony he and Hickson stated that Parker was totally unconscious throughout!]

Absolutely spot on. My only difference from you is that I used to believe Parker. But when he started elaborating the story, I immediately became very suspicious. However, the Johnny come lately alleged witnesses, instead of restoring my acceptance, convinced me that he is full of it. If I had to hazard a guess, I would suppose that Parker's publisher "found" them, though given his creativity storytelling, I'm sure Parker is OK with it all.
Like you, I am willing to entertain the possibility that something happened, but it may have been far less exciting than what the UFO community, myself included, were led to believe.

Like the Rendlesham incident, I think the basic story they told at the time is true. Unfortunately just like Rendlesham, sometimes people get a taste of being in the spotlight and decide they want more of it.

Parker's getting on on years and has pretty much said he wants to do what he can for his family i.e. hump this and make a couple of bucks. Of all those that do it he seems one of the least offensive and seems to have the most understandable motive. To name drop, this is what Roger Patterson had in mind too.
There are some tantalizing bits like the Coast Guard cutter logs, the guy sleeping at a drawbridge somewhere nearby and maybe a young couple who were bumping uglies in a car nearby who might add some corroboration. Then there is the whole 'why were they there in the first place' question and the relationship between the two men wasn't exactly close, then factor in their subsequent behavior. This one just doesn't fit the mold and I have always liked it but all these years later though, who the hell knows. We never will. It's that police recording that anchors the case.
When I look at Rendlesham I see .... personalities at work. If you listen to Halt for any length of time he sounds a bit out there too.
