Woke up at 0300 for no obvious reason. Just spent the past couple of hours in the garage bending an old wiring harness to my will. It's coming together very nicely. I have to pull and lubricate the coaxial cables for the speedo and tach and replace the line for the oil pressure gauge. On old cars that particular gauge isn't electric, it's a plastic tube (sometimes copper) that pipes through the firewall directly into a fitting in the engine block. Let's just say I'd better not do this unless it has my complete attention. Sometimes I can't even have the radio or bluetooth speaker on as it messes with my concentration. I have to be able to hear the unending stream of profanity I mutter .......

I never listen to music in the background when working on mechanical or electrical stuff at home, I prefer the quiet to focus and get the job done, for me its more enjoyable that way...

Cruising in my car, yep let the music play and my new car has a great sound system, I can connect my phone via Bluetooth and play the music I like...lol

You gotta have the tunes sorted out man! I still like a little AM radio now and then and really only use FM for distant NPR stations.

Always use the 93 octane or the highest octane gasoline available for your lawn mower and it will always run good...Here in my area the 93 octane gasoline has no ethanol which ethanol will kill any mowing equipment IMO...

Well this car is a step up for me, I've not had a vehicle previously that has the type of sound system with a big screen in the dash and which I can connect my cell phone to play music from...The car was made in 2013 which is the newest car I've ever had lol...

Drinking my 3rd espresso for the morning, needed an eye opener this morning lol...Last night I slept almost 8 hours continuous, which is the most sleep I've got in one night since I first became ill back in the last week of February, almost 5 weeks ago...

That's one of those discussions :) A friend and coworker of many years takes jerry cans to other counties that do not have an ethanol mandate for his lawnmowers and old motorcycle.

From my p.o.v I use 87 octane in everything and have no choice but to use E10 - that's all there is. The only thing bad about it is the shelf life is very limited, maybe 6 months. I never let fuel sit in any of my lawn and yard equipment - run it dry before storage. Even when it gets a little stale I just toss a can of Seafoam in there - half can for 5 gallons and it's off to the races. I've had carbs apart on my lawn mowers and tractors and never found any evidence of .... anything really. Clean, rubber lines intact.

The Harley requires 92 octane from the factory so it gets the 93 that's available. It gets stored on fresh fuel with Seafoam and sometimes I even siphon the tank dry at the start of the season just to give of more fresh fuel. It's fuel injected and after 17 years of this is a happy camper.

The 'vette has a .030 over 350 small block in it, old camel hump 2.02 heads. Originally an 11:1 motor that's probably squeaking out a tad more from the overbore. I have no way to easily calculate the compression ratio but it shows a solid 215 psi per cylinder +/- only about 2-3 psi so it's tight as a drum. I'd normally expect to see maybe 180-185 psi per cylinder on the family station wagon. The previous owner - who didn't do the work - spoke of what a horsepower monster the thing was and lamented the lack of 100 octane gas. Because that's what they said to get rid of him. Comparing today's gas with the old stuff is a bit of apples and oranges.

It took me a long time to figure out what was wrong with the thing and in the end - relevant to talking about gas - it was a series of small things that added up that weren't immediately obvious. Timing, vacuum, distributor. So I've got that little pressure cooking cruising perfectly with zero detonation on 93 octane E10. I've been through the Holley 4160 carb and fuel lines, pump, filters more than once for other reasons. I dunno, it's gas, it works and doesn't do anything bad I can tell. I could get 100 octane aviation fuel - from one of the grass strips that those verdammit Hudson Valley Wave UFOs came from - but haven't found the need yet.

Yesterday we had the warmest day of the year thus far, it got up to 82 degrees and was sunny all day, a beautiful day indeed...I was outside and also driving around some for much of the day, hiking with my dog and cruising around the country roads in my new car getting a good feel for driving it which I am enjoying...It drives really well, handles well, I can't wait to drive to the mountains, I'd say within the next week or two...

Did you get the Jeep Liberty? Is that the big model?

The shadow

The shadow knows!
Last night was the 1st high school football game. As fall games got pushed back to spring. Only family was allowed in. Debbie looking awesome in her varsity cheer team uniform!
She had not lost a step bouncing around like a rubber ball. Brian her BF
Got 4 tackles and a sack leading to a fumble.
After the game both engaged in public display of affection that got both a stean talking to by their coaches.
But after being apart for so long who can blame them..I for one turned a blind eye to it. And when the coach talked to me I told her "it's been what a year? Give the kids a break."

The daffodils are popping up. That and forsythia blooming is a sure sign spring is here. We had a crazy wind storm on Friday. I thought the house siding was going to come off. Luckily, the wind has calmed down and we are supposed to see 70 degrees this weekend!!

Up at 0300, full moon (or close to it) and we have a rainy day on tap. I have to go pull out the leftover stain I used on my deck and get a couple more gallons. Limited window between nice weather and when trees start to let loose those helicopter seed pods. I'd prefer to be just sitting on the deck, not slaving over it.

A couple of weeks ago we had some rainstorms and winding days. After it all ended my wife noticed a water stain on the living room ceiling. Uh Oh! It occurred to me that this area is where the satellite dish is located on top of the roof. I got a roofing company to come out. Sure enough the dish bolts had come loose. They sealed the area and tightened things down. We didn’t notice anymore water stains.

Now for the fun part. There was about a 7-8 inch stain on the ceiling. It looked like flat white paint to me. I got a quart of paint and then tried to cover things up. Luckily it matched up. I wasn’t up for re-painting the whole ceiling. I painted the first coat on Saturday. It will need a touch up and all should be good to go!

I heard a lawn mower running on Saturday. It was my neighbor across the street. He is the first and last to mow for the mowing seasoning in our neighborhood. I hate to start mowing in March. Unfortunately my lazy neighbor next door did his lawn as well. I might have to get out this Friday and bite the bullet.

Now that you mention it, I have a small leak on the roof at the back sunroom that just started a couple days ago...The weather hasn't cleared enough for me to inspect it yet however there is a dish network satellite dish 3 feet from the roof leak at the higher angle of the roof...Since you wrote this now I'm going to check that satellite dish, it might be the culprit...Its not my dish and I never had it installed, I guess the people whoever here before me had it installed, it was there when I moved in...
