How is The Coronavirus affecting your life?

Okay but these symptoms can happen up to 3 weeks after the shot. So, please monitor yourself and if you feel these symptoms get checked immediately.

They are recommending that people who were given the J&J vaccine who are experiencing severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath within three weeks after receiving the shot contact their health care provider.

But it's also very interesting that it is a rare clotting disorder that reacts badly to a common blood thinner (heparin), a fact which doctors must be made aware of.

And also interesting that it may be similar to a clotting disorder that is already known, that is also worsened by heparin. I wonder if these will turn out to be merely different triggers for the same underlying condition, in susceptible people who didn't otherwise know they had that potential.

U.S. health authorities cautioned doctors against using a typical clot treatment, the blood-thinner heparin. “In this setting, administration of heparin may be dangerous and alternative treatments need to be given,” the FDA and CDC said.

European authorities investigating the AstraZeneca cases have concluded clots appear to be similar to a very rare abnormal immune response that sometimes strikes people treated with heparin, leading to a temporary clotting disorder.

Officials say they also want to educate vaccine providers and health professionals about the “unique treatment” required for this type of clot.

Can't say I don't believe it exist, but I do have a few doubts about the way it's being handled.

It's real enough but had/has become so politicized it's hard to know what to think. I am not too worried about getting the shot unless it has a practical benefit - in our case right now it might mean access to a loved one in a nursing home. Just something an administrator mentioned to me that stuck, not a demand for a vaccine passport or anything.

My brother has a serious illness and is at risk for exactly this sort of thing. The flu can kill him, he's prone to pneumonia. He's had to really isolate himself and just received his two shots. Uses an N95. Regardless of what I might think I was relieved to hear that he got the vaccine, had no reaction at all to them and that we'll be able to see each other this year.

Mixed bag. Of shit. :)

I'm already taking a blood thinner called Eliquis for a superficial blood clot I had in my leg which is all about gone now but I'm finishing the medication I was prescribed...Since being discharged from the hospital because of that unknown illness I have been still monitoring myself for any symptoms of anything lol...I've never been that sick before and do not want to go through that again, if Covid-19 can make someone as ill as I was or worse then I'm glad I am vaccinated to prevent that from happening...

Well, the governor of NM decided to halt the J&J vaccine so my appointment is canceled, unless she opens it up before the 24th. I think it is corporate shenanigans and I am even more reluctant to even consider taking the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

I don't know how it can go back to normal, Standingstones. I think we will have to find a new normal because even the so called "class system" has changed. A lot of people went broke during this and not just business owners. People had to dig into there savings, most thinking it would be short term, now they won't be able to retire when/how they planned.

The more I think about it the more I see changes happening in the way we work, school, shop, etc.
Even with the vaccine it is going to take another year before we can get back to "normal" which like you say has already changed in ways that won't ever go back to the way it was in 2019. The company I work for has sent out surveys asking who wants to work in the office and who wants to continue to work from home. A lot of people prefer working from home. The ones with kids (most of them) want to work in the office, so it will be the younger people going in to the office. I have been working from home since 2016 and I don't even want to go visit the office even if I happen to be in the area on vacation (it is a 750 mile drive). My daughter's company expects everyone will be back in the office but even before 2019 she and her coworkers were working 2 days a week at home. She saves a lot of money on daycare but her hours are strange because she has to take breaks to get the boy to school and pick him up. (which just started back last week, doing internet school for over a year).

Like you stated earlier, it is rare, but I just wanted to make sure it didn't get masked from you because of your earlier illness.

The most important thing may be making sure that doctors know what to look for, and how to treat it. This 'pause' gives them time to do that.

(Though it's particularly interesting that they mention clotting caused by birth control, since the demographics for this are similar: women age 18-48!

My wife and I both received the Moderna shots. Outside of some tiredness and pain in the inject arm everything went smoothly.

You seem particularly satisfied that the J&J vaccines have halted, I guess the anti-vax crowd is also cheering the ridiculous decision by the FDA...

I had some minor pain in the area of injection but I also felt the same from getting a tetanus shot so its to be expected...

Its an absurd decision and many people will likely die as a result because of withholding an effective vaccine which puts people at risk of exposure to Covid who might have got vaccinated and will discourage others from being vaccinated...

That's why I think there is not enough information and the vaccine is getting blamed for a pre -existing condition.

I don't know what I said that makes you believe that. If I do get vaccinated I want the J&J because I have a hard time sitting there and accepting a needle, so I only want to do it once.

Just for the record. I am not part of the anti-vax crowd. I honestly believe this entire covid 19 pandemic has been hyped and I have made that clear since the very beginning even though I do believe I contracted the virus, was seriously ill, and honestly believe I was near deaths door because of it.

When you think about it, office space consumes a tremendous amount of resources for heating, cooling and managing waste. Then you have to commute to get to it with all that overhead. I know it's just shifting where and how certain resources get used, but with the advent of ubiquitous broadband why the hell go back to the way it was?

- a friend has been a power commuter from Long Island into Manhattan for years. Been sitting at home since this started. He noted during one office move the new building was 'green' and super efficient. Now it's sitting mostly empty and nobody really misses it. Even more efficient when you don't bother with it at all. Don't think he's going to be made to return.

Some things no. Kids need to be in classrooms with other kids. But leaven the commute with some work from home time? Why not? I took full advantage of it when I was on the clock - the technology lent itself to it. I finished 68 credits online to complete a bachelor's degree and didn't need to waste time driving to a school to do it - in fact I probably devoted more time to what I was doing as a result.

My daughter got 6 semesters of her bachelors degree online. It was very expensive (U of Arizona) and it got her a better job, but not better pay.

I moved to Texas to get a job and it was a good job but I was paying a house payment for my house in Albuquerque and paying high rent, so when my lease was coming due to renew I asked my boss if I could work remotely from Albuquerque and his boss asked her boss and they all agreed it was ok. There were already several programmers working remotely, one in Colorado, several in small towns in Texas 100 or more miles from Irving.

Especially for technology jobs (except maybe the network guys) working from home saves a company a lot of money. I buy my own paper and ink for the paper as well as not taking up resources at the office. It is a lot less expensive for me that it was to drive to and from work 5 days a week.

What I am wondering is this. Sometime down the line most of the people who want the Covid shots will have had them. Knowing human nature people will be shedding their masks, despite what the government or health officials may say. What will happen then? Will things get back to some normalcy or will we linger in some sort of zone where years may pass until the population just gives up on going back to the way things were. What do you all say?

I think we are going to linger around in some cloudy zone where this pandemic will drag out for a few years to come, too few people will be vaccinated and too many people don't want to be vaccinated or dont care anymore and they are likely the ones not wearing masks in the stores anymore...I went to town yesterday and I would say over 40 percent of the people shopping in the stores were not wearing masks and didn't care about social distancing and new cases are rising again...The powers that be seem to want this pandemic extended to keep the power and money they get from the pandemic, even halting vaccinations using trivial excuses at the risk of countless lives...I don't see any clear goals to getting life back to 'normal' or to a 'pre-covid' state or anything close to the 'way things were'...Too many people want to see so many different outcomes to this pandemic and many jumping from one crisis to another as a result, I think very few people are seeing the situation as it really is...I'm usually very optimistic but in this case I don't see a happy ending to this pandemic, things will never be the same again...

Some of that is the "herding cats" issue, too many people are more concerned for their individual "rights" and too many are believing propaganda that claims the virus is just a manipulation to take their "rights" away, then there are those who are in total fear of getting the virus and haven't left the house for a year, and those in the middle who do research, know how virus' work and that the masks are a good tool etc So, each state gets directives from the governor. My state governor insists that we will always wear masks until there are no more cases and in my area most people comply. All the businesses that I have been to in the last year are very conscientious and do not allow anyone to enter without a mask. I have seen only one exception. I don't count the homeless, most of them wear masks because no one stops for them if they are not wearing a mask. I know in the southern part of the state people do not comply with the mask mandate and when we went to my grandson's dirt bike race hardly anyone was wearing a mask but each group pretty much kept to themselves.

I do foresee one thing. The population will need to produce their “injection card” in order to do certain things. For instance, get on a plane or some type of transportation. Stores and/or restaurants may wish to see your injection card. To be sure this will isolate a percentage of the population. I do see people already abandoning the masks. I would hate to be the minimum wage employee who has to confront someone without a mask. It seems to be a good way to get into a fight or worse.

It's not like that here, most all businesses here have enforced mask wearing for their employees for quite a while now however will not enforce mask wearing for their customers and shoppers with the exception of the state-run liquor stores...

In the small town near my house the Wal-Mart seems to be the main gathering place for people living in that town...When you go through that store you'll find small groups of people gathered together chatting and talking, family or friends or neighbors...That stopped for a short time when the pandemic got really bad in this area but now those gatherings have returned in full swing and maskless...

I still do not waste time in the stores, I know exactly what I want or need to get (pre-planned) and get it and promptly check out and leave the store...I don't linger around and 'window-shop' nor browse around looking at things, I do that online on the store's website if I want to look at things...
