Protests are pouring in! Hundreds of bars and liquor stores across US and Canada are dumping Russian vodka in show of solidarity with Ukraine

Screenshot_20220226-170808.jpg

Canadian and American liquor stores and bars are removing Russian vodka and other Russian-made alcoholic beverages from their shelves in an act of condemnation over Putin's invasion of Ukraine. Liquor stores in the provinces of Nova Scotia, Manitoba, and Newfoundland said they were removing Russian spirits, while Ontario, Canada's most populous province, also directed the Liquor Control Board Of Ontario to withdraw all Russian products. In the US, some bars, including one owned by Bill McCormick (right) in Bend Oregon, have been trending on social media due to their support for Ukraine (left). McCormick has recorded himself emptying all of his bar's Russian vodka, saying afterward: 'Russia is acting as though it's 1939 and going into Europe with a full force that they have in Ukraine. I am so concerned about it metastasizing into other countries.'

These words of Trump won't age well. He just bit his own tail.
Actually the former president has a track record of admiring dictators and well, you know how things went with him trying to preserve our democracy recently.. Heck, he ought to just go over to Russia! And he could avoid prosecution for tax fraud here in the unfair USA. I'm sure Putin would love to put him in charge of a puppet government in Ukraine --and he could have those big military parades dictators like! He even suggested such a Ukraine thing with our southern neighbor would be a good thing.
I can only imagine the flying spittle if former president Obama or Hillary Clinton or any other Democrat started praising Putin's invasion of Ukraine --good lord... God help us in these ignorant times. Beam me up Scotty.
Especially with Pelosi policing tomato soup these days! No patriot is safe!

PM pays tribute to ‘hero’ president Zelensky but warns of 'grim days ahead for Ukraine'

THE Prime Minister has paid tribute to Ukraine's "heroic" president after highlighting nine ways the UK will offer his country support. Mr Johnson spoke to Ukrainian President Zelensky this evening, praising the actions he has taken and Ukraine's response so far.

It would be nice if Ukrainian troupes would actually defeat Russians and than actually Putin is brought down by Russian people. That would be great semi-happy-end.

It happened before, in 1905 when Russia lost war with Japan, there were big demonstrations in St. Petersburg demanding Russian Car to resign.

They had to lose their entire Pacific fleet at Tsushima in battle to the Japanese first. I like the idea but that's a big ticket for the Ukrainians.

The Russians may seriously escalate i.e the use of thermobaric weapons:
Russian thermobaric "vacuum bombs" launcher seen by CNN team in Ukraine

Their chance to shock and awe is over. Traditionally I would expect them to behave like Klingons and double down on the violence. Problem is this is on an extremely public and sympathetic world stage.

My guess is some face-saving wanton destruction and killing followed by some sort of talks.

Russian troops enter Ukraine's second city of Kharkiv and fierce fighting breaks out after Putin 'rages' at stalled invasion: Ukrainians obliterate Chechen special forces column of 56 tanks outside Kyiv and kill top general

Ukraine's capital city of Kyiv has resisted Russian efforts to invade, it was revealed Sunday morning, but Vladimir Putin's troops are currently making their way through the country's second-biggest city of Kharkiv. Hours earlier, Ukraine landed a significant blow on Russia Saturday after it killed a large group of bloodthirsty Chechen special forces dispatched to assassinate the country's president Volodymyr Zelensky.

The squadron - famed for their barbaric violence and human rights abuses - were obliterated after their convoy of 56 tanks was blown to smithereens by Ukrainian missile fire on the second day of their deployment. It is unclear how many died - but the number is likely to run into the hundreds. Among those wiped out was Chechen general Magomed Tushaev. He was commander of the 141th motorized national guard brigade - Chechen head of state Ramzan Kadyrov's elite force. The terror squadron's killings are a crushing psychological blow for Vladimir Putin's stalled efforts to conquer Ukraine.

The Russian premiere had dispatched the group to capture or kill Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, knowing full well that the fighters' brutal reputation would strike further fear into the hearts of besieged Ukrainians. On Sunday morning, it emerged Russian missiles hit a nuclear waste disposal site outside of Kyiv - and destroyed the equipment that can detect leaks of radioactive material, as it was revealed that at least 240 Ukrainian civilians have been killed.

That's an idea.

Ukrainian cities can't be compared to Baghdad and Mosul. Iraqi cities are all maze of streets with individual one story houses. Ukrainian cities are all about high rise buildings, particularly on the periphery of large cities. If you fill up these high rise buildings with resistance fighters and turn each one into a fortress than Russian armoured vehicles can be shot from above and it will be impossible for Russians to succeed in street fighting. Tanks are actually most vulnerable from above because that's where armour is thinnest. One can see that Russians are currently only surrounding cities, without entering.

There come thermobaric missiles. They can easily clear whole street blocks or high-rise buildings. Without using them Russians would have to suffer enormous casualties. Maybe that's what their plan was from the beginning. We'll see in the next few days. That's quite ominous.

Symbol of Ukraine's toughness: Moment man carefully disposes of anti-tank mine while smoking a CIGARETTE as Russian troops are bogged down by fierce resistance

Screenshot_20220227-134900.jpg

Ukrainian soldiers and civilians have been revered across the world for their bravery during the Russian invasion. But one man took fearlessness to a whole other level - by moving an anti-tank mine with his bare hands while puffing a cigarette. The man, who has not been named, was captured making the daring manoeuvre near Berdyansk in the south of the country. It comes as Russian troops got bogged down by fierce fighting in Ukraine as Vladimir Putin's invasion faltered. But in a dramatic escalation of tensions, the President ordered nuclear forces be put on high alert in response to what he called 'aggressive statements' by NATO.

Ursula von der Leyen, the EU's commission president, has said that Ukraine will become a member of the bloc. "They are one of us, and we want them in", she said. Thus the EU has decided to double down on the aggressive expansionism that is one of the causes of this war. With these words the EU has also demonstrated that it values a Russian defeat and further humiliation over an end to fighting.

Once a country joins the EU, it is locked into its Single Market, throwing up significant barriers to trade to any of its previous trading partners outside of the bloc (such as Russia, in Ukraine's case). This is a threat to cut Russia off economically from Ukraine, as it always has been since the EU started to make overtures towards Ukraine in the 2000s. This is the argument made by those who wanted Britain to remain in the EU--that leaving leads to a severing of economic ties. The same applies in reverse, when joining, as Australia and New Zealand discovered when Britain joined the EEC's Common Market (as it was then called) in the 1970s. When Britain made the application to join the EEC, Ireland, Denmark, and Norway made simultaneous applications, because of their economic links to Britain. If Britain was in the EEC at that time, then they needed to be. If Britain was not in the EEC, then they needed to stay out. The EU makes no such offer to Russia.

The EU and NATO have been seeking to drive a wedge between Russia and its previous satellite states--militarily, and economically--ever since the fall of the Soviet Union, which, as we know, has culminated in Putin's decision to take Ukraine by force (or at least, large parts of it, and perhaps destroy the rest).

Ukraine belongs in EU, Commission chief von der Leyen says

Ironically, another argument of Remainers in the Brexit referendum debate was that the EU had kept peace on the European continent.

Since old Putin seems to have gone grabby and nuts, now Finland has to seriously consider their NATO option. Or in the coming decades we may be next.

Yeah, but Putin will be eating a humble pie by the end of April. Mark my words.

US$ 650 billion of Russian national currency reserves blocked in Western banks. Russia removed from SWIFT. Chinese banks stopped all the credits for purchase of Russian commodities, including oil. Practically nobody can buy Russian oil. Ukraine has completely open border with West, through which unlimited amount of weapons, like those anti-tank missiles are pouring in. Now they are even talking about giving Romanian and Bulgarian Mig-29 fighters to Ukraine.

Per estimates war costs Russia $20 Billion / day and Russian advance had stalled and they are yet to occupy even the smallest town. Their economy is going to bleed out it no time. Retired British general said that that he can't see how Russia is going to occupy Ukraine with such a small number of troupes. Ukrainian army is about 120k soldiers, Russia's attack force needs to be at leas x3 times that, but it is only about 190k. Of course Russians are going to stall.

And now there is already talk about receiving Ukraine into EU, which is half a way to being received into NATO. Putin really messed it up big time. And additional humiliation for Russia will be that sanctions will not end with a war, because West will be in a stronger position and will be able to use its possession of Russian assets to demand concessions.

The German news video clip in post #613, to me, demonstrates the blind ignorance of the EU leaders as they squarely blame Russia for the current hostilities, not themselves nor NATO...The West should have been working with Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union and made concessions with regards to NATO instead of the continual expansion mentality...We see the results of the latter and I think this is only the beginning...If we continue backing Russia into a corner its only going to get worse for everyone...

If Putin decides to go nuclear, might the generals disobey him? I can't imagine anybody other than Putin thinks that is a good idea.

There are now calls to remove Russia from the UN security council which started with the Ukraine president and now with some Republicans...This is a very dangerous maneuver...
