I read that Germany voted in billions for their own rearmament and intends to be more involved in world politics.

I usually have to see a piece of news a few times from multiple sources. If this is true talk about unintended consequences. Interesting

So far Russians are under performing. Weather that's their overall strategy its hard to say. Maybe they are waiting to amass troupes in large concentrations.

They haven't won a single town in 6 days. Their troupes and equipment are mostly stuck in these long convoys that can easily be attacked. They are overstretched in many in 4 - 5 different areas. Social media shows lots of destroyed Russian equipment as they try to enter cities in lightly armoured vehicles, without tanks or artillery support. Even just 10 - 20 of these Mig-29s can change the tide because they would open skies for Ukrainian drones to attack supply columns. There isn't much of evidence that Russian troupes are receiving any air-support etc.

Maybe the Russian military is dragging their feet from the conscripts on up to the generals. They might be hoping that something might be worked out diplomatically and/or Putin gets removed.

Putin possibly left it too late in the year. The spring thaw is underway turning much of the territory of Ukraine into a literal quagmire. Russia's armoured vehicles have become stuck in this.

The Russian Air Force is conspicuously absent. When the US invades a country over land, when it is going to attack a country which it doesn't like, the invasion is preceded by weeks of aerial bombing, and the achievement of total air superiority. The following link goes into some explanation for the absence of Russian aircraft in the conflict:

https://rusi.org/explore-our-resear...ary/mysterious-case-missing-russian-air-force

In short, a speculated depleted supply of precision guided munitions, potential inability to operate effectively in the presence of friendly SAMs, and poor training and operational effectiveness of VKS aircrews due to the limited number of hours they are able to fly every year.

"GLORY TO UKRAINE"

Glory to Ukraine, indeed. Here is a leader who led his country to ruin out of a steadfast refusal to compromise. His proud example is one we can all learn from.

No-fly zone over Ukraine 'would mean World War III'

(Excerpts)

Ukrainian officials and two Republican members of Congress have pushed for the United States to implement a no-fly zone as Russia’s invasion continues, but doing so would mark a major escalation in the war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, via a statement to Axios on Monday, called on President Biden and NATO to impose a no-fly zone over “significant parts” of his country, saying that “if the West does this, Ukraine will defeat the aggressor with much less blood.” Zelensky tweeted Tuesday morning that he had told German Chancellor Olaf Scholz that Europeans supporting Ukraine needed to “close the sky.”
____________

“We have no intentions of moving into Ukraine, neither on the ground or in the airspace,” NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told NBC News in a Monday interview. “We have a responsibility to make sure that this doesn’t spiral out of control and escalate even further into concern for full-fledged war in Europe involving NATO allies.”

Freedom will prevail in Ukraine
PUBLISHED MON, FEB 28 20224:18 AM EST

The following commentary was authored by 10 ambassadors and high commissioners resident in Singapore:....

The EU, G-7, Allies, and partners are united in denouncing Russia’s premeditated, unprovoked and unjustified attack against Ukraine.

The pain and suffering we are witnessing in Europe today—the shattering of peace and stability—affects all of us around the world. As Russia’s premeditated, unprovoked, and unjustified invasion of Ukraine continues, let us be clear – Russian President Vladimir Putin has chosen a war that will bring catastrophic loss of life and suffering to innocent human beings. The entire world stands with the people of Ukraine as they suffer a brutal attack by Russia’s military forces.

Putin has been planning this invasion for months, if not longer. He directed the movement of more than 175,000 troops and military equipment into positions along the Ukrainian border – the largest buildup of military forces in Europe since World War II. Putin flagrantly violated international law when he decreed Russia would recognize the purported “independence” of two so-called “republics” on Ukraine’s sovereign territory – “republics” Russia has propped up and controlled through political and armed proxies since 2014. These actions were political theater, centered on baseless claims, and falsely staged to create the pretext for Russia’s full-scale invasion on February 24. The world is not fooled.

At Putin’s direction, Russia rejected every good faith effort Ukraine, the United States, the European Union, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and allies and partners made to address Russia’s alleged mutual security concerns – which Russia’s actions have proven to be no more than a pretext. We urged Russia to engage diplomatically, avoid needless conflict, and avert human suffering. And yet, while the UNSC was meeting to stand up fo...............

Hopefully DT is choking on a fish bone or something right now. I do agree generally though to let them deal with their own back yards. Let them build their defenses againt that unstoppable juggernaut the Russian military is showing itself to be.

When we were blowing the crap out of about anything we wanted it was different because we justified it better and did it in areas the western media is less sympathetic to. Do the same thing in a European country to people that look like us it’s different.

I’d prefer we concern ourselves with the domestic shitshow that’s been running on and on and on. Makes me sick
