No it is illegal to carry handguns here. I have a very small Bear Grylls pocket knife I have in my bag for cutting string and opening letters and such.

Can you at least own a rifle?

I can see that many people today are clueless and also unwilling to take responsibility for their own lives. They want a nanny state to keep them safe without that same absolute power becoming corrupted by that same power.

This is of course impossible. Power corrupts and absolute power absolutely corrupts. These laws are themselves proof of that corruption.

Too big unless of course you're in the Yukon. Small and simple a Walthers P22 for daily protection in a city. For those unexpected moments like a hold up while stuck inside a mini mart and you think the nut jobs might just start killing everyone. A very likely situation regardless of where you're living.

I don't care what the laws are, there's no way in holy hell I'll ever be without a firearm, seen way too much in my more than 60 years on this planet to let the fear of the trumped up laws put my life at risk. To hell with that idea. Others can wander about clueless and uninformed but at the end of the day I'm going home.

Yes we own rifles , with handguns you can own them if your in a Gun Club you just can't carry them on you or hunt with them , its illegal to do that. I wouldn't say we are a Nanny state I live in a logging town and most locals do things a bit different than the people in the big cities on the mainland.

Yea, it's sad really to see this happen in Australia. I can understand with so many idiots around shooting all the wild life that such laws have their benefits, but as someone who began early adulthood working with the cops I came to learn very quickly that a man without a gun is like a man without a penis: Just useless. Sorry but can't think of a better comparison.

Later in life I worked in private security doing contract work for gov-corp USA. You're never going to see a politician or billionaire without a small army of armed guards and so I don't think anyone has a right to dictate what I can have on my own body for personal protection.

People living in countries which have these laws don't realize these laws only apply to the commoner. They don't apply to special people. I once did some personal protection work for a friend in executive protection. We guarded this certain prince from a rich Arabic nation. We were all armed with whatever weapons we wanted and could carry. I had an AR15 in a brief case with 400 rounds and a glock 40 caliber. Outside of our private army the officially approved police and security services of the US Government stood, least there should be any outsider messing round with us. Our job was to protect the client, and their job was to cover us and muzzle anyone who was the wiser or should anything happen to clamp down with a cover story. Who knows what would become of us? I only did this once because I got to see the reality of how the world works at this level. One of these people recently made headlines. Won't say who for personal reasons, but as big a wheel as they come.

How in the name of God do people arrive at the conclusion they will be safer unarmed than armed? Ya know it's just insane but then they just don't know. Precious snowflakes my butt.

Suppose it depends where you live.

If you live in a megatropolis full of criminals hell bent to shoot, maim, kill, disfigure, and bum rape your wife and kids every 10 minutes, then it maybe advisable.

If you live in most other places that are not the USA, you are probably going to be ok.

The US is a safer place to live than the UK...

I don't live in the city. I live in the back woods of Vermont.

You can use the Katana to cut string and open letters.

There was a John Belushi SNL skit about a Samurai do cooking and other things.

You strike me as a knapsack person. You could conceal the Urban Eagle in your knapsack.

The philosophy on guns in dangerous areas, even if technically illegal is:

"It is better to be tried by twelve, than buried by one."

Have you got one tell me what you have in the way of firearms and knives CB. Have you a Katana ?

Decided to pull the hot political threads from public view for a little while, there was too much wood thrown in those fires...:dry8:

I have an official samurai sword that my grandpa got off a dead Japanese on Okinawa during WW2. One of my prized possessions.

Wow that's cool. There was a guy in the city I heard of had the same thing . He said that under no circumstances was the sword ever to be returned to the owners in Japan .

They wouldn't take it. As far as I know it would be dishonor to the family.

We should probably post rules of engagement for the political threads.

I like everybody here even the people I disagree with.

The political threads should allow vigorous debate and let ideas and policies be viciously savaged.

But we should be polite and avoid personal references and perhaps use the honorific "gentle member" or some such to refer to the person we are disagreeing with.

There's this lost hiker called Kenny Veach, who went missing more than 3 years ago looking for the "M cave" in the Nevada desert, as he called it. I lack the creativity at the moment to make a topic on this, but it's very interesting. I'll gather the sources below for whoever is gonna create a topic about this.

There's a summary here starting at 7:24

Kenny Veach, aka snakebitmgee's youtube account, containing the video where he tries to find the M cave: snakebitmgee

I'm kind of snowed in today, my whole area has over 1/2 foot of snow, which doesn't sound like much but it shuts down everything...The town is dead, no roads have been plowed and the snow is still falling heavy...

So I'm working from home some, well I spent all morning working on KPIs now relaxing and going to eat some lunch...

The snow will keep falling all afternoon, it's only 11:40 am at the moment...I also have three ways of producing heat: electric, propane and wood...Running both electric and propane at the moment, if the power goes out I'll burn wood and propane...
