Irma Turning Into Monster Hurricane: "Highest Windspeed Forecasts I've Ever Seen" | Zero Hedge
Hurricane Irma continues to strengthen much faster than pretty much any computer model predicted as of yesterday or even this morning. Per the National Hurricane Center's (NHC) latest update, Irma is currently a Cat-3 storm with sustained winds of 115 mph but is expected to strengthen to a devastating Cat-5 with winds that could top out at 180 mph or more. Here is the latest from the NHC as of 5PM EST:

As Above So Below
I have never witnessed a hurricane

I've been through two hurricanes before, once in Florida and one in Mexico, what was worst for me was in San Diego when I was in an earthquake...For me that was far worse than a hurricane...I can deal with wind and water, I'm a good swimmer but when the ground shakes there's nothing you can do, I felt so helpless...

Ugh. I'm buying sand bags and plywood tomorrow. Hopefully I won't need it but I guess I'll have for the next go around. Putting away all lawn furniture. Gas here shot up nearly 30 cents in one day. We're already flooding. If this comes anywhere near Florida, we will have major flooding in our low lying areas. The soil is nearly all sand and when it rains with just normal storms...it floods. The sand gets saturated and the water just sits on top with nowhere to go. Beneath the sand is soft limestone that opens up into sinkholes that can swallow cars and house whole. I live in a coastal area known as 'The Flats'. Our coast is very shallow. You can almost walk a mile out to sea. Were it not for the buildings, I could see the shore line from my house.

I hope it stays out at see. I have this horrible gut feeling that the NC Outer Banks area is overdue for a major storm.

The latest probable path by The National Hurricane Center has Irma heading straight for Miami but there is still plenty of time for it to change.
