Gene is pathetic and it shows in his actions on his own forum justifying his con game whilst calling those who rightly speak out about his shenanigans as haters or sites like this as hate sites...He doesn't have the bollocks to visit here and defend himself because there is no defense for his financial shenanigans...

I am convinced that Gene at some point, maybe long ago, decided to prioritize his begging above the overall quality of his podcasts.
It's no crime to get burned out on hosting a podcast, especially (I would argue) one on a topic where nothing much is ever going to happen or change.
But I think at this point Gene will sacrifice anything if it might mean a payday that he perceives as not requiring effort on his part. Someday that payday might be big!
Chris O'Brien apparently kept the show going for a long time but in his absence, it's just a shell, Gene's means of saying he's working hard, telling himself he's a legitimate journalist, but most importantly - having a pool of potential donors.
Maybe he is delusional; I could believe it, but I also can think he knows he's a tired, broken down old weasel who just wants to keep playing out his scams in relative peace, while pretending he's a good guy who puts out that weekly podcast you once really dug.

It is very sad that Gene either doesn't recognize or doesn't care about this. Sad and upsetting. And that people like J. Randall Murphy cannot learn from the experiences of others, well, not even sure what to say about that but that character has drained me of any sympathy I might've had for him.

I strongly suspect Gene's history of grifting, financial dishonesty and scamming is nothing new, the fact that he and his wife seem absolutely devoid of friends pretty much tells you what you need to know - bridges burned, blown up, family members ripped off, son ran off to Spain, no one in their area even wants to help them pack their meager shit before being endlessly evicted from living spaces - they have no local friends, no one, nada. What normal person stiffs landlord after landlord, goes on endless online begging sprees and then complains about being called out for said begging sprees? It's insane, which is a good description of Steinberg's mental environment. His wife and dog obsess over each other, because Gene barely even notices they're in the room at this point, who can blame him, he's a lifelong liberal married to a F0x News addict stuck in a time warp and allergic to work. It's the very definition of a nightmare, and in his case, there's no way out, he's trapped in a royal mess of his own making, his years of scamming, grifting and sleaziness have led him to this point, a punchline in a joke that's not even vaguely funny, a pathetic waste of an entire life, and in my case, an enabler who now regrets his participation in that loser's life and isn't hesitant to speak my mind publicly, unlike the shmuck who replaced me and kept Gene warm and comfy in the grift another eight years. And Gene openly states he'll only explain himself to those who offer to give him money - what kind of chutzpah is that, pay me and I'll tell you how I scam people? Does he really think that everyone is as crazy as his wife? Oy. It makes me sad that I even take the time to write all this shit out, I suppose it's somewhat cathartic, but fuck, it's not exactly the high point of my life to point out the lying old scamster is scamming nonstop, it's as obvious as fucking rain at this point.

This from a guy who spins the shit straight up and non stop in his emails, and in defense of those emails, as well as in sporadic online fundraisers, and to promote his new web store. And frankly with regard to just about any kind of disagreement he's ever been involved in online.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Gene has been doing this kind of thing all his life.
The fact that he sees absolutely nothing wrong with a decade of charity fraud and the public records of his multiple debt defaults, evictions, bankruptcies and the like is ample evidence. He also seems to think it is perfectly normal to shirk work and expect others to support him based off his poorly constructed lies. All of this suggests that his morality compass is completely broken and likely never functioned in the first place.
Even if Barbara is completely off her rocker now, she must have been fine with it at some point or she wouldn't have married him. We must also note that her sister married a con man too.
I'm also quite certain that the reason Gene's obscenely wealthy elder brother (and his side of the family) cut Gene off completely is because they understood that no amount of money would ever be enough for him and if they kept him in their lives he would bankrupt them too.
Ditto for his son, who presumably realised that the only way for him to avoid his father staining his name (and credit history) further was to leave the country.
As I have said before the problem is not money, the problem is Gene himself.
He absolutely refuses to live within his means. If someone gave him a million dollars today he would have spent two million by next week and would be fraudulently begging again. He also refuses to get a job to support himself and thinks that blatant dishonesty is a perfectly acceptable way to obtain money.
A crisis or emergency is something you cannot foresee, an exceptional event - it is not something you cause repeatedly yourself by your own actions.
In that case it is deliberate and in no way is it an emergency - you can merely change your behaviour and fix things and it does not require help from other people.
Anyway Gene is a sociopath. He will never see anything wrong with what he does - he may not even be capable of doing so. He will keep doing what he does.
The people that disgust me most are the constant stream of enablers - O'Brien (who helped the scam along for far too long despite knowing what was going on and has now been frightened in to silence), Randal who seems to have his head up his own ass and is willing to look the other way so he can inherit the show, and also the constant stream of guests on the show who are aware of what is going on but completely ignore it or pretend that it is irrelevant.
If the paranormal/ufology field was a serious one these people would hang their heads in shame but instead they just keep doing what they do so they can shill their books and their third rate celebrity.

Although in the form of questions, these are good points that I always seem to go back to in my mind when I see his pathetic begging emails in my own inbox...He wants to call this site a 'hate site' yet his pathetic bullshit has caused this thread to form, and caused Jack's trail blog to post about him, and cause the many twitter accounts to expose him and make memes about him...He has no one to hate but himself and no one to blame but himself...

I have always wondered that if there are “haters” of Steinberg, why is he sending them endless e-mails begging them to support his lazy ass? I’m sure he reads these comments. Why is that Steinberg? No one owes you a life. Far from it. Why don’t you make amends and pay those people back. Get a real job for a start.

If he truly wanted the questions and criticism to go away, he could just stop begging. But I can't imagine he will ever, ever stop begging. No amount of money is enough. We know that get rich quick schemes are Gene's kryptonite, but they also appear to be his overriding addiction. He seemingly cannot pass up a scheme, no matter how farfetched (@TonyGwynnSex, anyone?). And he responds to the critics and questioners in such an offensive manner as to guarantee the criticism and questioning will only escalate, as we've seen. The begging is worth more to him than his reputation, his relationships, peace of mind, anything. I think this is because he sees it as costing him nothing, and believes someday it will once again pay off big.
