Patriots fans burn team jerseys after players take a knee during National Anthem

The issue here is not about discrimination. The issue is about free speech and what limits should be placed on it. I'm convinced everyone who has contributed to this thread cares about people and equality.

I've gotten to the point that I only look at Facebook once or twice a week. It's been months since I posted anything on my newsfeed. I just peeked at my account. The newsfeed is already clogged with people posting comments about why they support gun control or why they support gun rights. They haven't even buried the bodies yet from the Las Vegas massacre! Can't people just respect the solemnity of the tragedy and take a collective breather from the debates and the vitriol?

The in-your-face attitude of so many people today with their political views is what's grinding my gears.

It's about both free speech and discrimination.
I don't use Facebook except for my office/business.....so I'm not troubled by it but I do agree that people are a lot more vocal about politics than in the old days. Only the 'grown ups' talked on it in the past and that was usually after the kids went to bed. ;)
You are correct in that no sooner did this hit the news and both sides started using it to make political points.

America falls out of love with football: Shock study sees NFL drop below baseball in the popularity stakes for the first time in decades

  • Favorable ratings for the NFL have dropped from 57 per cent to 44 per cent from the end of August to the end of September
  • Meanwhile, the unfavorable rating for the league is the highest among any big sport - 40 per cent - according to the Winston Group survey
  • In August and September, baseball had the highest favorable rating than any other sport at 63 and 65 per cent
  • The National Anthem protest along with criticism from Trump has caused core fans, men aged 34-54, to turn their attention elsewhere
  • Donald Trump predicted on September 27 that the National Football League will 'go to hell' if they don't listen to his demand for a ban on protests
  • Some fans are protesting out of disgust of the protest started by Colin Kaepernick in response to police brutality against Black people, last year
  • Others are protesting because the player hasn't been signed to a team yet

I do watch more baseball these days....the wife and I are Cubs fans...but then we have always been since the early 60's.
Used to watch the Bears football games but they haven't had a good team since the 80's. But to tell the truth sports in general is not on my tv as much as other programs.

I'm really not into watching any sports, especially football, never have had a lot of interest in sports although I find myself this year keeping up with the N.Y. Yankees scores, not watching any games although I probably would listen to a game in the internet radio while I work at home lol...

With all those sponsors one wants to know why our taxes support the NFL...?
Maybe Trump should look into that ?

If the President takes such a stand against this kneeling then cut their money...

Taking a knee isn't disrespectful to the flag or the anthem. If you've all been following the news then you'd know this protest was started by Colin Kaepernick who used his platform as an NFL player to protest the systemic oppression of minorities and police brutality. Did you know he actually used to sit on the bench during the anthem until a Veteran (Nate Boyer) asked him to kneel instead? Boyer felt kneeling would be a perfect middle ground because after talking with Kaepernick he understood what he was protesting and at the same time felt that kneeling would be more respectful because "soldiers take a knee in front of a fallen brother's grave to show respect."

It was NEVER about disrespecting the flag. Trump changed the narrative to fit his racist agenda. Interesting that there was another klan march in charlottesville and Trump hasn't said anything about that. Oh right that's because they are 'very fine people' so they're allowed to protest but these black football players are 'sons of bitches' and they're not allowed to exercise their constitutional right.

If it was white people taking a knee it would be heroic for them to stand up to police brutality. But since it's black people they're "sons of bitches" and should be kicked out of the NFL. Ohhhh racism. Why can't we all just get along?

No it's not bold at all. Black people riot everybody goes batshit crazy. Black people peacefully protest every goes batshit crazy. Bunch of white folk run around in KKK outfits and there is nothing to see because they are "mighty fine people"

Who's has said that?...

I guess black people can't be racist either...

Did I say that black people can't be racist? No, no I didn't. What kind of argument is that anyway? And the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES said that they are "mighty fine people"

Nuff Said! It is not a race issue unless you are making it one, It is a Politics Issue. I pay to See Football Not Politic's. This is why next years SuperBowl will be boycotted in my house. As far as i am Concerned "Colon Cottondick" Ruined a lot of teams for me with his Social Justice BS. America gave These some of these Athletes a Billion to million dollar job and some how they managed to screw that up. Plain and Simple, When i pay for Pepsi i do not want Coke. When i pay for a American Past time, I do not want to see Anti-American Statements. If you can not understand that then, I am sorry, I did not know you had that low of an I.Q

Heh don't start insulting my intelligence, boy. It wont work out for you. Yes it is a race issue. You see white people kneeling because of this little thing called "unity" you saw unity when players would interlock arms. That is a show of unity.

How is it that you don't understand that this is a race issue? Very clearly is since the players are kneeling for that fact. If it's not a race issue would you mind telling us what exactly it is?

Ok, As Americans When the National Anthem Plays that is Supposed to be a Symbol we are Unified as a Nation. Right? Yes, No matter black or white they are Americans. Now, Why are the Showing Separatism during the Song that is Supposed to Unify us? That is not Unity it is an outright cry for social justice BS. If you want to show Unity by Showing Separatism. i would wholeheartedly question your intentions and your intelligence. They chose the wrong Platform to Protest. Plain and Simple.

You literally just answered you own question. They feel the "unity" does not apply to them. And my "intentions" are with the United States constitution that I swore an oath to protect. If I get mad at people for protesting peacefully that would make that oath null and void.

I am not Mad that they Protested, What i am mad about is the platform they did it on and the Timing. If they had left it out of a Game i pay to See, And had not chosen to do it during the time we are supposed to show Unity. I would have no problem. These Athletes have millions of followers on social media. Why could they have not used that platform? Why could they not sit out the game and stay home? Why could they not have peacefully protested on the white house lawn? Why could they not have marched on Senate? There was a thousand and one proverbial ways they could have handled this. Instead they destroyed a American Past time by bringing there personal baggage into it. I really hope you can see why i totally disagree with the way they handled it and i will not fund Anti-American Statements. If they had handled it in a better manner i could have supported the movement. I know people get screwed over in America, That i am not blind too. I get why they are doing it i just do not agree with how.

As far as your intentions go, I figured you was an Anti-American person whom was trying to instill this thinking in other's. I am sorry, I did not know you or your story before i spoke that is my bad. I still do Question these people's intentions when they handle stuff in this manner. I could stand behind that If the protest is not in it's self an attack on America all be it Peaceful when you disrespect the anthem or the flag that show's Directly you hate America. I would not walk up and punch your boss if you had made me mad you know. That is not how you do it.

What I've gathered without doing much research into it, the armed services indirectly gives money to the NFL to show the players standing for the national anthem with their hands on their hearts to instill more patriotism in the younger people so they will be encouraged to join the military...

I personally don't need nor want to see the national anthem at every sporting event, it's not necessary, on days like thanksgiving day football sure, super bowl sure, but not every single game...
