I agree that thermodynamics and hydraulics could be ancient tools but they are not forgotten, you can find them in your appliances like hydraulic jacks and refrigerators.

Here's a crazy fact I read about death inside a submarine. A submarine that implodes due to hull breach at a deep enough depth doesn't result in drowning, it results in incineration. The compression is great that the air inside the hull ignites with such intensity that everyone is almost instantaneously incinerated. At least it's fast.
We could have an entire thread on Submarines. There's so many things about submarines that are curious. The ones lost, the one's found, what they were doing, what's known, what's suspected, and on and on. Ya know a submarine is a space ship, it's a true space ship really. The technology inside those things is worth discussion alone.
We should start an Undersea's thread. Alot of funk going on right now involving the oceans and the undersea ventures.

Don't listen to this purveyor of death machines Kilburn. I on the other hand can set you up nicely with the latest technology. Nothing like these rust buckets of doom clanking about like the ghost of Captain Nemo.
Seriously though, check out these guys and their crap. This is doable stuff and the cool thing is how deep these suckers can go, how fast they are, and there's no steel to rust away. These are composite personal high speed, ubber deep divers.

Heron of Alexandria was a multifarious personality, an active engineer, an amazing inventor, an ingenious mathematician, a methodical scientist (the DaVinci of antiquity) while simultaneously a miracle worker, a concoction wizard (the Copperfield of his time). In his book " Automatopoitiki" he describes the mobile automatic and the remarkable "static" automatic theatre (the cinema of the ancient Greeks and precursor of animation). The myth of Nauplius is presented on the stage of the theatre with the use of many micro mechanisms put into motion by the ingenious winding of tens of metres of mechanically-timed threads which are drawn by the descent of a lead weight into a clepsydra (of sand). The gates open and close, figures move, sound is produced, different scenes are shown, fire is lit, lightning strikes and thunder is heard, and many more wonders occur automatically. All this justly distinguishes Heron as the most significant automation engineer of all ancient civilisations, capable of dazzling even contemporary engineers.
