Jeff Bezos said in a Space Development Conference in Los Angeles that we need to colonize the moon. He suggests moving industry to the moon and even asteroids.

Pipe dream. We don't have the tech to be able to build on the moon yet, let alone an asteroid.

There is going to come a point in time when there will be too many humans to be supported by this planet. That day doesn't seem that far off. There better be some plans drawn up to colonize the Moon and Mars damn soon. The time to daydream is almost over.

It does seem like its pretty much 'business as usual' in the world, not giving much concern of the path our species is on, at some point there's going to be a reality check...

Bezos hasn't been the only person to speak about colonization of other worlds. He's just one of the few to have the means to take on a project of this sort.

I don't think people can survive in space or even on the moon long term yet, the technology we have isn't reliable enough in my opinion...We need to stop treating the earth like our trash can...

I have read the talk that travelling to outer worlds may be a one way trip for many people.

I think that may be the case for small settlements in the future...Our first exploratory missions to Mars will be round trips to get boots on the ground for the first time but if we were to send people to stay there for a couple years or more they most likely will not return to earth...I think they would either run into life threatening problems or adjust to life on Mars and settle in for the long haul there...

The amount of time we're talking about for the trip is similar to what people had to deal with in previous centuries to relocate from one continent to the other, and one way trips were the rule not the exception. Amazing that we're now talking about friggin' Mars in very much the same way people once viewed emigration to North America or out West.

The US can’t be idle. China, Russia and India have shown they are hellbent to reach other planets in our system.
