First off, hi! I'm new here, so apologies if I'm barging in with a weird topic right off the bat. My name's Greg. I've been lurking for a bit, but something came across my desk that I just had to share. This place seemed like the only spot on the internet where people might actually get it))

So, I was digging around on one of those sites that archives weird internet stuff, and I stumbled on this file: 1#124_Message_File_0.txt (aka "Message 124").

I figured, "Great, another creepypasta," and almost closed it. But man, I was wrong. This thing is a total mash-up: binary, code, fake DNA, Russian, German, Latin... the whole kitchen sink. It feels like a corrupted data dump or an insane collage.

I tried to find its source but hit a wall. It might have Russian origins, but that's just a guess. I used to be into ARGs like Cicada 3301, and this gave me that same puzzle-box vibe, but it's weirder.

What hooked me was a big block of numbers. My old astronomy hobby kicked in—they're celestial coordinates (Right Ascension & Declination). I got curious and ran the whole list. Here's what that block in the file points to:

- The "What": Some coordinates point to famous objects (Albireo, Orion Nebula, Andromeda Galaxy). Others point to empty sky or generic areas.

- The Weird Part: The third number (like 124.00, 2.93) is the real mystery. It's NOT their actual distance in light-years. The values are all wrong—sometimes way too small (2.93 for a star?), sometimes weirdly precise (0.52, 8.18), sometimes just round and big (100, 500, 1000, 12400). It feels like a code, a ranking, or some kind of data value.

This isn't a random list. Someone chose these specific points. The mix of famous landmarks and empty fields is intentional. And those third numbers... they're the key.

I'm throwing this to the hive mind. I've attached the full file.

My questions for you all:

Has anyone here ever seen this file or anything like it before? Any rumor, lead, or forgotten thread about its origin?

What is this thing? Is this the most elaborate, unsolved, multi-lingual ARG on the internet? An epic art project about information and reality? A very weird hoax?

The sheer volume and variety of content tell me this wasn't made in a week. There's a design here, buried under all the noise. I figured the whole thing was some kind of coded puzzle or ARG, right? But the intro... it's written like a personal confession. The author (calls himself "just a human") straight-up says this isn't a story or a text. He calls it a "message," a "scar from a thought," and an "imprint" of pressure on reality. He claims he didn't write it, he just "recorded" it under the "dictation of silence," whatever that means. Says it was channeled through him because he was "sufficiently empty and durable." Real out-there stuff.

But here's the kicker. He talks about these... entities, for lack of a better word. "Ghosts in the machine," "echo of a distant supernova," "the inaudible wail of the Universe itself." And he claims they told him one thing: that in 124 years from the moment he typed the first symbol, a specific person with a certain genetic combination would open this file, and "the noise would become music, trash would become code, and the world would take a step it can't take now."

Honestly, it sounds kind of loony. But that's what makes it so brilliant. The contrast is insane. On one hand, you have this mystical, almost unhinged preface from a guy who thinks he's a cosmic answering machine. On the other hand, the file is packed with incredibly precise, technical knowledge — real astronomy coordinates, flawless scientific German, complex code structures, and deep philosophical passages in perfect Russian. The sheer scope of specialized knowledge in the rest of the file is mind-boggling.

Even asked GPT about it. Turns out, it's... (apparently, it's a fragment of the human beta-globin gene — HBB. The code for part of hemoglobin). Honestly, didn't expect to find actual genetic code there.

So, this block repeats in the file, but there are differences in the second block. Not clear yet what exactly they are or what they mean. Need to compare them line by line. Maybe there's some mutation encoded there or just typos. If anyone's into biology — you're welcome.

Anyway, just figured out another piece of the file. This thing doesn't stop being surprising.

Truthfully, I had to look up what that even was as I never heard of an ARG. Absolutely no clue but you're right, it's tantalizing; that may be it's true purpose. I have an old friend who may be into this sort of thing, I'll ask.

For some reason this reminds me of Number Stations but at least those seem to have a more prosaic explanation.

Alright, so a guy gave me a link to this other person. Short version — he came across something interesting about that DNA code. Can't quote it directly (he posted on another forum, even though I asked him to come here), but here's the gist.

He showed it to a friend who's a microbiologist. She confirmed it's not random. It's fragments of the human beta-globin gene — HBB. The one that codes for part of hemoglobin.

She pointed out a specific mutation in the second block. A single-letter change that matches the exact mutation known to cause sickle cell anemia.

But the bigger point she made was about the whole sequence. If you translate all that "DNA" from the file into a protein, you get something that resembles beta-globin, but with a series of anomalies. Some of the substitutions don't look like errors. For example, swapping certain amino acids in specific spots. In a natural protein, that would probably make it non-functional. But if this is a design — not a copy of nature — then those changes could be there to alter its structure or give it a different function entirely.

So it's not just a copy of a known gene. It's a modified version. Like an edited blueprint.

A Chinese scientist who shocked the medical community last year when he said he had illegally created the world's first gene-edited babies has been sentenced to three years in prison by a court in southern China.
He Jiankui announced in November 2018 that he had used a powerful technique called CRISPR on a human embryo to edit the genes of twin girls. He said he modified a gene with the intention of protecting the girls against HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Many scientists expressed concerns about possible unintended side effects of the genetic changes that could be passed down to future generations.
Last fall, He also indicated there might be another pregnancy involving a gene-edited embryo. The court indicated that three genetically edited babies have been born.
The closed court in Shenzhen found He and two colleagues guilty of illegal medical practice by knowingly violating the country's regulations and ethical principles with their experiments, Xinhua news agency reported. It also ordered He to pay a fine of about $430,000.
He's colleagues, Zhang Renli and Qin Jinzhou, were handed lesser sentences and fines.

Chinese Scientist Says He's First To Create Genetically Modified Babies Using CRISPR​

"None of the three defendants acquired doctor's qualifications. [They] craved fame and fortune and deliberately went against the country's regulations on scientific research and medical management. [They] went beyond the bottom lines of scientific research and medical ethics," the court stated, according to the South China Morning Post.
He has defended his controversial work by saying that it will help families. "I understand my work will be controversial," he said, as NPR's Rob Stein reported. "But I believe families need this technology. And I am willing to take the criticism for them."
At the time, scientists had previously genetically modified human embryos, but none had publicly claimed to have implanted embryos in a woman's womb in an experiment that resulted in human babies.
Chinese police detained He in January and, as the Post reported, an initial investigation concluded that he "organised a project team that included foreign staff, which intentionally avoided surveillance and used technology of uncertain safety and effectiveness to perform human embryo gene-editing activity with the purpose of reproduction, which is officially banned in the country."

2 Chinese Babies With Edited Genes May Face Higher Risk Of Premature Death​

The gene that He edited, CCR5, is known as a pathway for HIV to infect immune system cells. But as Stein notes, research carried out since He's stunning announcement has suggested that the genetic changes he made could cause more harm than good to the babies' health.
A study in Nature Medicine analyzed the DNA of more than 400,000 people and found that the changes that He made could make people more vulnerable to viruses such as West Nile and influenza.
"This is a lesson in humility," George Daley, the dean of the Harvard Medical School, told Stein. "Even when we think we know something about a gene, we can always be surprised and even startled, like in this case, to find out that a gene we thought was protective may actually be a problem."
Marcy Darnovsky, the executive director of the Center for Genetics and Society, said in an email to NPR that He's "reckless and self-serving acts should highlight the broader and deeper risks — and the pointlessness — of any proposal to use gene editing in human reproduction."
William Hurlbut, a scientist and bioethicist at Stanford who had attempted to persuade He (who is nicknamed JK) not to do the experiment, called his arrest a "sad story."
"Everyone lost in this (JK, his family, his colleagues, and his country), but the one gain is that the world is awakened to the seriousness of our advancing genetic technologies," Hurlbut said in an emailed statement. "I feel sorry for JK's little family though — I warned him things could end this way, but it was just too late."

First block (124, 62, 31, 94... all the way down to 4, 2, 1) – That’s the Collatz sequence starting from 124. You know, the “3n+1” hailstone sequence.

Second huge block – That’s Pi. Hundreds of digits of it.

Third block (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 7, 14...) – That’s the digital root pattern of powers of 2.

Fourth – Just prime numbers.

Fifth – Triangular numbers.

Then things get weirder.
The last block with numbers like 18, 9, 20, 1, 14… he ran it through a simple A1Z26 cipher (1=A, 2=B, etc.), and it spat out:

Which… okay, it’s messy. Lots of “undefined” gaps. But you can pick out phrases like "ritanium conception but the real world is hidden in the shadow crystalline inside a rin sulfur face" and "world reducers seekers silver". Not exactly clear, but it’s something.

And then — the numbers 77, 51, 76, 73, 66...
Turns out those are atomic numbers:

77 = Iridium (Ir)

51 = Antimony (Sb)

76 = Osmium (Os)

73 = Tantalum (Ta)

66 = Dysprosium (Dy)

So this whole segment isn’t just random math — it’s math, pi, ciphers, chemistry… all woven together. Pretty clever. And honestly, it makes the whole thing feel even more like a designed puzzle. Or a very, very layered message.

Belated welcome, Greg! Do you recall what site this was found on? Was there any kind of info included with it such as when it was uploaded to the site?
 
Thanks, Rick. And sorry for the late reply — I've been trying to dig deeper myself, but honestly? Hit a wall.

As for the source: unfortunately, I can't remember exactly where I found this file. It was one of those creepypasta dump sites, full of weird PDFs, fragmented .txt files that someone had been uploading for years with no real system.
