Really, really bad alternate history and time travel novels abound. In most cases they start with a ridiculous premise and become a series of multiple books. To me this is like eating those generic (but tasty) lemon flavored supermarket cookies - they can be addictive but there's nothing good for you in there.
Despite an obvious sequel this one is very different and extremely entertaining. Rather than concoct some technical sounding nonsense the author just uses magic.
A good distraction, this one.
