Here's something I just though of. What if the tie that was found was not Cooper's but had been accidentally left there by Peterson on a previous flight? Peterson did take airliners to this area as part of his job in aerospace. Everything still lines up quite nicely for McCoy to be Cooper. McCoy's children don't strike me as the type who would be seeking personal fame, supposedly they resisted all attempts to interview them until after their mother died.
