Most anti-vaxxers are dismissive of the risks of Covid infection, but have an extremely heightened perception of the risk from vaccines. They do not evaluate risks objectively, that is, based on the probability of a serious or fatal adverse event alone (from getting Covid, having not had the vaccine, as opposed to having a serious side effect from the vaccine). It seems to matter a lot more to them that someone should die or get seriously ill from a vaccine, rather than from a virus that vaccine protects against. The latter is somehow preferable, even if the risk is much greater.

In this respect it bears a similarity to other irrational fears, like the fear of flying, with sufferers going to great, and even much riskier, lengths to avoid travelling somewhere on a plane. Of course, the fear of flying is different in that it is not often promoted by sufferers as something that others ought to feel as well, and is not sustained by conspiracy theories about the motives of the aviation industry. At least, not to my knowledge.

There are a lot of people who peddle their fears as if they are facts, rather than just their personal fears. Some vaccines a long time ago did have adverse affects because mercury was used, but that is no longer the case. I researched it and mercury was a known poison but it was used as a preservative, but it was thimerosol, not straight mercury. Even so, it is no longer used. There is a lot of bad information out there about any subject you want to feed your fears with, and a lot of people are attached to their fears, and want others to share them (misery loves company), just like people who join a cult and then are easily convinced to recruit for it. Too much lack of science in schools is part of the problem, the rest is personal.

Yep, surge 3 or 4 just like in Europe. (say or 4 because I still think we had our first bout in fall of 2019)

Epidemiologist Who Helped Wipe Out Smallpox Issues Stark Warning About COVID-19 Variants

Epidemiologist Dr. Larry Brilliant, best known for his work eradicating smallpox, on Thursday expressed concerns over new coronavirus variants and stressed the need for a backup plan in addition to vaccinations to control the pandemic.

“I’m quite worried about the variants. We seem to be getting not only many variants, but variants of concern almost every week,” Brilliant told CNN’s Erin Burnett. Daily new infections in the United States have plateaued at around 60,000, and public health experts warn that a fourth wave of the virus could be about to crash down on the country.

A coronavirus strain that originated in South Africa, for example, renders the AstraZeneca vaccine 90% ineffective, Brilliant pointed out. A variant first seen in Brazil can allow reinfection, and one that emerged in the United Kingdom is more transmissible.

“I do think we have to have a backup plan in addition to vaccinating everybody as fast as we can,” said Brilliant. “I think we have to get really much better at outbreak containment, detecting of diseases, finding them, isolating them, and vaccinating them with the vaccine that matches the variant that our genomics tells us they have.”

Burnett asked if vaccine booster shots being developed against the variants would be enough.

“I think it could be that the booster does it,” Brilliant replied. “I’m hopeful that there’ll be boosters that vaccinate us and immunize us for everything since the last vaccine we had. But, in addition, we will have dozens of vaccines and some will match better against certain variants.”

Effectively matching the right vaccine to the right strain “will become more and more important” in future months, Brilliant predicted.

My mom who is 87 got her second shot of the pifzer shot a couple weeks ago and says she feels fine, So far .My sister in law said they had a friend who died a few days after getting the shot and my cousins wife had one of her fellow workers die after getting the second shot.
Anybody i have spoke to when the subject comes up is not going to get these shots. My aunt who is 92 had covid and said it was like a flu, i know its a lot worse for some and a lot easy on others.
Vitamin D3 may be the best thing to take ,has worked for us so far.

Personally I don't like the 2 shot deals from Pfizer and Moderna but I do not mind getting the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and will do so soon...The Johnson Johnson shot was made using technology that been proven effective on the ebola virus and I think I will not have any adverse reaction to it...

The U.S. leaves Europe in its dust with 40% of its population now vaccinated compared to continent's 10% - with a lockdown in Italy and curfew in France

The US officially vaccinated 100m citizens with one or more dose of COVID-19 shots this week. About a third of American adults will now have some degree of COVID protection. About 17.5% of Americans are now fully vaccinated against the disease CDC said.

In Europe the rollout has been far slower with only 10 per cent of Europe's total population receiving one vaccine dose, and four per cent receiving two shots. Europe has seen delays with vaccine rollout with a production shortage. A fear of a higher incidence of blood clots with AstraZeneca has led to halting of vaccination using that particular brand of jab. There is a high degree of 'vaccine hesitancy' throughout the continent with only 36 per cent agreeing the vaccines are safe compared with 49% of Americans.
