COVID-19: Nearly half of virus hospitalizations in Massachusetts are for other issues

Massachusetts’ Department of Public Health on Thursday—for the first time—made a distinction between COVID-19 patients hospitalized with "primary" and "incidental" cases.
Boston 25, citing the newly released data, reported that 49% of the state’s 3,187 patients-- hospitalized on Jan. 18--were there because of another matter and diagnosed with the virus once at the hospital.

Here is something I have been wondering about. I have yet to go into a store, restaurant etc. and have been asked to produce my Covid shot card. Has anyone else had this experience? What is the point if no one sees if you have had the shots?

I've of some people getting kicked out of places. I suspect, though, that it may be mostly for employees of companies or institutions that demand them.

Only our gym. They asked to see it just once so they could check a box on our membership status that they can see when we check in. Very few people bother with masks when working out. We went to a diner yesterday and complied with Gov. Hockeypuck's mask mandate. Easy enough to do. But after we sat down they are obviously off like everybody else and the place is wide open and busy. I was looking around thinking how completely ridiculous this situation is. What is a little bit of maskery intended to accomplish? Putting some of a condom on doesn't help much does it?

My wife didn't take the booster well. She and her sister decided in advance they wouldn't and guess what ? Yup. What the hell. I stayed home today and let her get some sleep and took care of the pets, laundry, all that.

She may very well be reacting to the booster. I don't consider it harmless. Useless maybe but not harmless. Her Mom and the home health aide ladies got Covid Lite - omnicron - and all anybody got was the sniffles. But they did get it.

I was required to give a copy of my vaccination card to my employer.

Very interesting. They stopped drug testing entirely because of covid but require that because, you know, somehow that makes sense.

Guess what? I have to deal with a coworker with a serious drug problem ............

(left) The North Penn School District responded to the post, which has garnered over 500 comments in the last week, calling the teacher's actions 'unacceptable.' The district said 'the matter is serious and it is being addressed with the employee' but did not say whether the teacher would face disciplinary action. On Thursday the mother of the child in the photo, said the national attention the photo has garnered is 'like a scene from my worst nightmare.' 'If I had any idea that this would evolve to such a level, I would never have permitted it to be shared with that private group,' the mother said.

COVID-19-free Tonga turned away a plane loaded with tsunami disaster aid after someone on board tested positive for the virus

Tsunami-ravaged Tonga — among the few countries free of COVID-19 — turned away a plane carrying disaster aid from Australia after someone on board tested positive for the virus.

The plane was forced to reverse course mid-flight on Thursday due to a positive COVID-19 case on board the aircraft that was headed for the Pacific nation in the aftermath of Saturday's volcanic eruption and tsunami which devastated the country.

All crew members tested negative for the coronavirus after taking rapid antigen tests, but a PCR test came up positive for one crew member while the plane was en route, an Australian defense spokeswoman told Reuters.

The saddest part about this is that the death rate for Covid is not exceptionally high compared to the worst contagious diseases. Alarmist propaganda has many behaving irrationally, including policy makers.

On the flip side, I'm surprised Australia would send a plane with a crew carrying possible covid infection given their highly strict zero covid policies...They even have covid concentration camps (of course they don't call it that) for their own citizens like China does, you would think the crew of that plane would have been guaranteed covid free...

I read that it was a dump & run - that they had no contact with anyone. They brought in a machine to help clear the runways. Wonder what is going on

Seeing that video brought up some bad memories of a grade 4 teacher I had. I looked her up because she left teaching and became an actor then a politician. She eventually got what was coming to her. What goes around comes around. xxxx2

This is completely illogical and unnecessary, if the vaccines worked as originally promised then I could perhaps remotely understand the basis for this change...It seems more like this is grabbing a tad more control and fill the pockets of Pfizer and Monderna with more cash before they have no choice but to wave the white flag and call this pandemic as done...

CDC plans to 'pivot the language' on vaccination

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said during a Friday briefing that the agency is working to "pivot" its language regarding what it means to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Responding to a question about why the CDC is not changing the definition of the phrase to include a booster dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, the health leader told reporters that it is working to "pivot the language to make sure that everybody is as up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines as they personally could be, should be, based on when they got their last vaccine."

"So, importantly, right now, we’re pivoting our language. We really want to make sure people are up to date. That means if you recently got your second dose, you’re not eligible for a booster, you’re up to date. If you are eligible for a booster and you haven’t gotten it, you’re not up to date and you need to get your booster in order to be up to date," she added.
