Dog Can't Believe He's Really Seeing His Mom Again

For eight long months, Janna Berger and her dear dog Murphy were apart while she was off training for the army. The love they shared, however, didn’t diminish in the slightest.

"I thought about Murphy every day," Berger told The Dodo. "

Being away from him was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do."

And Murphy missed her, too.

Back at home with Berger's parents, Murphy never forgot about his faraway friend.

"In the first letter my mom sent me, she told me about how every day since I’d left, Murphy waited outside the door to my room for me to come back," Berger said.

But then, after waiting so long, she and Murphy were finally reunited. This week, Berger posted a heartwarming video showing that adorable moment. In the first few moments after seeing her back home, Murphy appeared to be in disbelief that it was actually her — barking and seeming skittish around the person who for so long existed only in his memory.

It wasn't until he got a sniff that all the pup's love came pouring out:

"I had no idea Murphy would react the way he did!" Berger said. "When he didn’t recognize me at first, I was so heartbroken. The happiest moment of my life was when he finally figured out it was me."

Murphy's dream had come true.

This reunion happened during Berger's leave from training, but soon she and Murphy will get to be together for good. In a few months, Berger will get to move off base into a home to share with her pup.

She wouldn't have it any other way:

"He's been the light of my life for over three years now, and I’m hoping to have many more with him by my side."

So anyone's pet have any particular greeting rituals?

I never used let my dogs on the furniture but with this one, we do. Whenever we come back in the house she greets us by the basement door and will ever-so-gently take your wrist or shirtsleeve in her mouth and lead you upstairs to the love seat for her mushy-mush. Probably a no-no to a dog trainer but she's so gentle and doesn't have thumbs .....

Mine is always at the front door when I come home from work without fail and if I have a couple bags of groceries he sticks his nose in every bag to check out what I bought lol...He also likes to dance around in circles around me, snaking through my legs as I walk...I've always let him on the furniture, he sleeps in my bed too, just like my last dog did...

I was touched by this article and video above because I had to go to Buffalo NY a few years ago on business, a one month trip turned into six months, my dog acted a similar way as the dog in the OP video did when I came back home from NY...I wasn't gone the entire six months straight but came home on the weekend every couple months but still it was hard on him for me to come home then leave again...I cried tears of joy too when I was back home and greeted my dog again after that entire trip was over...
