This volcano looks like it's going to blow anytime now, everyone needs to get out...

This mountain lies within a 1,700 mile arc that includes 3 of the largest known eruptions in the last 80,000 years. If thos eruption is anywhere near the other three Bali isn't going to feel its affects.

Couldn't this set off a chain reaction in other close volcanoes if this eruption is a large scale eruption?...

There is no evidence that the previous large scale eruptions set off any of the other area volcanoes.....as Krakatoa didn't set anything else off in 1883. Mount Tambora didn't set anything else off in 1815.....and Mount Toba's super eruption 70,000 years ago was bad enough on its own.

I'm not aware of such things happening in the recent geologic past at other locations.....but I won't say its impossible.

Thanks, I didn't know if that type of thing ever happened or was possible to happen...Its my understanding that volcanoes are relief valves in a way, relieving pressure underground in that area...

They are similar to earthquakes in the relief of physical forces.....and earthquakes can set off eruptions like with Mount Saint Helens. But I'd not expect one volcano to set off another same as with earthquakes. The physical stresses have to be there before they'd be released....so unless some of the more local volcanoes have also built up similar stress.

The volcanoes in the arc I mentioned are more indicative of the type and explosive nature of their eruption history.

I'm just trying to say this eruption has the potential to be catastrophic if it lives up to the other eruptions I added.

At the end of September over 140,000 people fled, did some go back only to run away again?...

Metanoia
They said 180,00 were originally evacuated then they called that off and now they have evacuated only 30,000 ?
