Should Facebook have shut down its AI? Opinions?

Facebook AI Creates Its Own Language In Creepy Preview Of Our Potential Future

That was an interesting development, they training the bots to use English language but the AIs created their own language for themselves so they can communicate more efficiently lol...

There's also some bots in China that were created to mingle and chat with Chinese social media members and they started discriminating and talking bad about the Chinese government so they were shut down lol...

Do you agree with the decision to shut it down? Should it have been left to grow in capacity as an AI? I guess my question here centers around the ethics. Surely the goal of an AI is to achieve true sentience. Why create it if not so? Why shut it down as it moves toward its implied goal?

Perhaps the question is, do we have the right to I pose or force a human element, in this case language, upon an AI to the point of shutdown if it doesn't comply? Do we put down animals who do not comply with human goals for it?

It's a difficult question if we were right to shut down something that possibly has a chance for sentience...The bots were created to mimic humans in conversation but in a way disregarded that purpose to find their own way to communicate with each other, can this be called sentience or a spark of such?...

After giving this some thought it may not be a fair comparison if one considers whether or not animals and which species are sentient or have the possibility of sentience...

It does seem their action was contrary to their intended goal of creating an AI. I suppose that if we insist on playing God then we must also accept the demons we spawn.

I think any demons there would only be the ones representing only our fears from the id.
AI in my opinion will never have a desire of it's own. But could mimic one.

Then could we even say that it is truly sentient or no? This would have us questioning the very nature of sentience itself. If we allow for only sapient sentience then I fear we would go down a very dark path.

The main purpose of the bots seemed to be one of grasping and using human language to interact with humans...

What if all the bots continue this same outcome and ditch human language for their own and decide not to communicate with humans?...

Sentience might only apply if a machine is truly alive or had a life of it's own.
To me life also means not simply biological life but our nonphysical souls or spirit within.
I do not believe a body would live long if it were to loose it. A ship without a captain and navigator would eventually be lost.
It may be possible for machines and AI to be developed to the point where a soul or spirit can dwell within it. That would be a major game changer and a reason for concern.

Yeah, once the AI created its own language the creators couldn't decipher it became a rogue entity. Allowing it to continue would have jeopardized Facebook.

If they were intelligent enough and self aware they would be able in time to find out they it's humans who control the power supply that keeps them alive and might not like that and plot to take control of their destiny by controlling their power source...
