Actors do better when other people put words in their mouths, but recently Tom Hanks described wearing a mask as 'literally the least you can do' . He and his wife got the virus and survived it.

If there's an intelligent reason to not put one on I haven't heard it yet.

I wanted to post this here to show a point, this pandemic is real and it is deadly...

Texas hospital says man, 30, died after attending 'COVID party'

A Texas hospital says a patient who was a healthy young man died from coronavirus after attending a “COVID” party. The unidentified 30-year-old man died at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, according to the hospital’s top doctor, Jane Appleby.

“This is a party held by somebody diagnosed with the COVID virus, and the thought is people get together to see if the virus is real and if anyone gets infected,” Appleby said, NBC 4 San Antonio reported Friday.

“Just before the person died they looked at the nurse and they said, ‘I think I made a mistake. I thought it was a hoax but it's not,” she said, according to the station.

“This is just one example of an avoidable death in a young member of our community,” she said. “I can’t imagine the loss of the family." Appleby said the hospital is treating other COVID-19 patients in their 20s and 30s who are “severely ill,” the station reported.

I refuse to join the clown show.

The whole Covid crap is NOT what the media has made it out to be.
Also, most people who wear a mask voluntarily, do so as more for purpose as a political statement.

Maybe more people should look elsewhere for some of the information rather than main stream media....

“I just want to caution everybody to be careful,” Dr. Larry Wilson, CMO at Midland Memorial Hospital, said. “If it’s being described as a silver bullet, if you’re hearing about things that are just so perfect that it’s too good to be true, it probably is.”
    ------------

Bartlett made several claims in the video which are demonstrably false, including that 20 percent of the world’s population is at risk of dying from COVID-19 and that Japan and other countries have low numbers of coronavirus infections because they are using inhaled steroids.
    ------------

Dr. Michael Peters, MD, MAS, is an assistant professor in the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. He studies the impact of aerosolized/inhaled corticosteroids such as budesonide on ACE receptors. These ACE receptors are responsible for SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus, entering human cells.

Peters warned against blanket claims about inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) preventing COVID-19. However, he also noted that these medications might indeed prove to be beneficial with further study.

“Inhaled corticosteroids are an effective and well-established treatment for asthma, but any claims regarding efficacy to treat or prevent the develop(ment) of Covid-19 infection are not supported by the currently available scientific data,” he said.

Peters added, "However, it is possible that ICS could be beneficial in CV19 disease and it is very reasonable to pursue clinical trials that test the potential for ICS to treat or prevent CV19 disease. There are currently multiple trials that have been developed to test this hypothesis, some of which are actively recruiting subjects. To my knowledge there is no data from randomized controlled trials for the efficacy of ICS for the treatment of CV19."

    .

The above quotes and links just adds some perspective...Instead of sending his unpublished claims and work to Trump, perhaps Dr. Bartlett should publish his work and get it reviewed and verified before making such grandiose claims of a cure...We all want a cure and there are a few hundred types of possible vaccines in development and some in testing stages, still there is no reason to call all of this a "clown show", tens of thousands of people dying because of covid-19 directly or complications due to covid-19 is not a clown show...

So those wearing masks voluntarily are lefties and those not wearing masks are righties?...Your statement is ridiculous, wearing masks protects other people from getting the coronavirus, most people who wear a mask voluntarily are doing so out of consideration of others and to protect others by limiting the spread of the virus...That was proven effective during the Spanish flu pandemic as well as proven effective during this coronavirus pandemic, if that individual who walked into the nursing home where my uncle stayed was wearing a mask my uncle would be alive now...

Perhaps people should look elsewhere for correct and valid information than from some Doctor making hastened or snake oil like claims...

See what I mean by my earlier statement about not keeping up with the information from everywhere regarding Covid 19?

I trust both SOUL_DRIFTER and Nivek and even their opinions differ. I have to say that I lean towards not wearing a mask and I do have a medical reason for not wearing one but, I honestly believe that this is being blown way out of proportion and if you practice social distancing and washing hands after an outing, you will be fine. If I were going to cough or sneeze in public I would bury my face in my arm sleeve so as not to scare anyone. I know I am not infected I haven't been out of my apartment since June 14th.

Ohio man, 37, who refused to wear a mask and claimed the pandemic was just 'hype' in a Facebook post dies from coronavirus

Richard Rose (left), 37, of Ohio, who claimed the coronavirus pandemic was just 'hype' in a Facebook post (top right) despite the virus sickening more than 3.2 million and killing at least 137,000 Americans, has died. Rose wrote on Facebook that he was experiencing COVID-19 symptoms on July 1 and went to get tested. The US Army veteran tested positive and died from the virus at his home just two days later. But before Rose's death, he voiced his support for President Donald Trump, slammed the Black Lives Matter movement and accused Democrats of spreading false information about the pandemic. He also claimed on April 28 that the pandemic was just 'hype', saying: 'Let make this clear. I'm not buying a f**king mask. I've made it this far by not buying into that damn hype.'

    So, I'm a goner, am I?

I never wore a mask for the SARS epidemic either.

I have never been mass inoculated since I left grade school either.

Never had a flu shot. Never had a cold or flu in my entire adult life until the age of 60 and I beat that without meds or a mask as well.

There is an underlying agenda that is being spread by using this pandemic. You have already started to feel its crunch and restraints. I'm not all that worried about it because the buck stops here. I have no children, nieces or nephews, or significant other. I don't need to fight for it because I am out of here in less than 18 years if I'm lucky, or unlucky depending on your point of view.

You have children who will need someone to teach them to fight and not just submit to or just believe what they are being told by our leaders like our parents did.

I'm still fighting a 54 year habit because we were all brainwashed to believe that cigarettes were not addictive and did not cause cancer. I can still develop smoke related cancer at any time within the next 20 years because of the radioactive afterlife of smoking cigarettes.

No disrespect intended, Shadow, Rikki, Nivek, Pigfarmer, etc....

I do not believe in karma in the way stated above, all I have said was wearing a mask in public protects OTHER people, although it also certainly helps protect oneself, I am also thinking about others...

No argument from me there at all. 'Main smear media' covers a lot of territory. Always screaming and carrying on about .... whatever.

If the 'main stream media' were a person it would be one of those goddamned lunatics you encounter on the subway that yells, stinks, gets in your face and usually wants something from you. If nothing else, the goal is to make us all hyper.

Now I have to go out and check my murder-hornet defenses, or was it the lawless caravan defenses ? A new strain of coronavirus only transmitted through hideously overpriced name brand sneakers? I keep forgetting what I'm supposed to be fearful of next.

There is no lack of confusion about those masks. The White House and CDC have been recommending 'face coverings' virtually from the start. New York state was the first to mandate their use in public and even at that there is a percentage that steadfastly refuses to comply. I can't speak to how effective are but thought that if we were just talking about the common cold or flu they probably would help to some degree.

Got together with an old friend yesterday who tells me he's trying to bludgeon the bus company he works for to follow CDC guidelines, and also that he decided to open up a huge can of worms regarding his shop's union which subsequently got voted out. In this case the union's presence probably served it's member and the community better than the transportation company's financial interests. Different topic.

Point it he feels the CDC recommendations carry the weight of law and they don't. I mentioned that the State Department. of Transportation would be the regulating authority. You can set a national speed limit but there aren't any federal traffic cops to enforce it. Didn't want to hear that so I dropped it. But these days everyone is an infectious disease expert and/or a lawyer. One thing I have found out the hard way is that if somebody doesn't want to wear one, there is no mask police. I simply avoid them. Better for all concerned.

As for the states that are having massive flare ups - maybe now's the time to say that the federal 'hands off' approach could use some tuning. Also - WTF did these people take away from watching other areas get slammed by the virus? If your neighbor's houses are on fire wouldn't it be a good idea to at least get your water hose out? As I've said, plain old fashioned stupid doesn't get the credit it deserves sometimes.

Walmart announced that it will require face masks to be worn in all of its stores starting Monday, July 20.

The company, the largest retailer in the U.S., announced that the wholesale retailer it owns, Sam's Club, will also mandate face coverings in all of its stores as well. "Currently about 65 percent of our more than 5,000 stores and clubs are located in areas where there is some form of government mandate on face coverings. To help bring consistency across stores and clubs, we will require all shoppers to wear a face covering starting Monday, July 20. This will give us time to inform customers and members of the changes, post signage and train associates on the new protocols," Walmart said in a statement.

The retailer also announced that all stores would only use one entrance and it has created a new position called "health ambassador." These employees will be located near store entrances to remind folks of these new requirements and help those who arrive without a mask to find an acceptable alternative. "We know it may not be possible for everyone to wear a face covering. Our associates will be trained on those exceptions to help reduce friction for the shopper and make the process as easy as possible for everyone," Walmart said.

Health ambassador. Yeah, that’ll be just fine. No problems could possibly arise from that.

Let’s see, what just happened to me five minutes ago?

Nobody else in the West did, either. That's because it was contained and never really arrived here. The mask is more for the benefit of people you would otherwise shower with your (potentially infected) respiratory secretions.

The CDC updated its advice on Friday the 3rd of April to say that members of the public were recommended to wear cloth face coverings in public, but this was fairly late in the game. Previously their advice had been that healthy people going about their day-to-day business did not need to wear masks. I can remember stories back in March of people shaming others over wearing masks in public, with the justification that they were needed for health workers and that the official advice was that they were not needed by the public (although why the mask or the virus should know whether the wearer was a medic or not was never clear).

Obergruppenfuhrer Cuomo mandated the use of face masks on, I think, April 17th. Things got Weird around here about mid-March. Didn't happen all at one, there was a lag in awareness, response, etc. Not like flipping a switch. By April we all were scared shitless. In March if you were wearing a mask people looked at you funny. Now you get that if you don't.

Had a long talk with relatives in Wisconsin last night. What hit us a few months ago is hitting them now and the descriptions of the sudden lack of traffic, places closing, store shelves emptying etc are very familiar. There's fear that covid is lurking on every doorknob and shopping cart. I get the impression that when they looked at what happened in the northeast and New Orleans that it failed to register - and now it's becoming very personal and real to them. People tend to ignore things until they land in their lap.

EDIT - too early. It was the store shelves emptying because people are starting to realize things are changing. Just about everything out there is wide open. Doesn't become real until it hits you and then it's too late.

I've begun preparing for things to get worse in my state, stocking up on fuel and supplies, financial preparations too, make sure some money is in the right places when needed, things can get dark very fast anywhere, we have already seen this and we need to be as prepared as we can...Like the good Doctor says below, we are still in the first wave of this thing, some states have been or are presently knee deep, I think soon every state is going to get hit first hand and knee deep unless we as an entire country of people take this deadly epidemic seriously, otherwise its just a matter of time before each state one by one drops to its knees...

Wearing masks isn't a political statement, this action should not have any ties to anything political, this is a lifesaving measure, not just immediate lives but future lives, thousands or hundreds of thousands if we all wore masks and everyone keep distance socially for a short while...It's not infringing on any rights, its not rubbing against anything written in the Constitution, its a small personal inconvenience but the impact and result of doing so is immense...

    ...

Fauci urges governments to be 'as forceful as possible' on mask rules

Dr. Anthony Fauci said Friday state and local government leaders should be "as forceful as possible" in urging the wearing of face masks to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus, which the top infectious disease expert says is still in the first wave in the United States and has hit Americans "very severely."

Fauci said the United States needs "to get better control" over COVID-19 and masks must be a priority as the country opens up.

"I would urge the leaders -- the local, political and other leaders -- in states and cities and towns to be as forceful as possible in getting your citizenry to wear masks," Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said during a video conference with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
