How Would Our Species Handle an Alien Invasion?

What would humanity do in the face of an alien invasion? Imagine that the Earth falls under siege to an extraterrestrial threat. Would that be the stimulus that finally unites us all as a single species? That compels people to band together, combine resources, and advance with a unified motivation to conquer—or at least survive—the alien threat?

Or even then would our species remain divided and, even worse, divisive? Would we still rail against and fight one another despite the entire human race facing a common mortal threat?

While this narrative is often merely fodder for Hollywood, to state the obvious, the [current] novel coronavirus, the highly contagious and lethal virus that causes COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2), is very similar to a global extraterrestrial attack. Despite the fact that our species has encountered previous pandemics, like an alien invasion, this novel coronavirus was only a theoretical threat. Until now.

But now, it is not theoretical. It is an actual lethal invader that was previously unencountered by humans, against which we have no initial defense, that’s driven solely by its own existence, that easily evades our best efforts to fight it, and that indiscriminately kills in vast numbers.

Regardless of the origin of the deadly threat we are all now facing, in my view, one matter seems clear. If our global community can’t put aside its petty and self-serving differences to unite and fight a deadly, worldwide invasion, we are a species of dumb, superstitious apes indeed.

And while many people and countries are circling the wagons, sharing vital data and much needed medical equipment, some countries are still failing to come to the table to help all humanity fend off this literal, existential threat. Even more troubling is the fact that some countries’ leaders are trying to assign blame to each other rather than band together with transparency and good faith to fight this common enemy.

Most alarmingly, it is known that some bats harbor many other coronaviruses that have never been encountered by people. And it is believed that bats were the vector that triggered this as well as previous coronavirus epidemics, like SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) and MERS (Middle East respiratory syndrome). Fortunately, both SARS and MERS were quickly contained, because they both have much higher case fatality rates than it appears COVID-19 does (meaning they are both more lethal, especially MERS which killed over 30 percent of those infected).

It is also known that the rampant ecological damage and habitat destruction brought on by human encroachment into previously uninhabited areas has led to a collapse of vital natural barriers, like forests, grasslands, marshes, deserts, rivers, and lakes. These environments often compartmentalize disease-carrying animals from human populations. Hence, for many years, the epidemiological community has been sounding the alarms about an inevitable pandemic. But, sadly, our current leadership is outspokenly anti-science and derided, defunded, and dismantled the very frontline organizations charged with defending us from these deadly threats (i.e., the CDC, NIH, and WHO).

In addition, our leadership has rolled back many environmental protections, thus setting the stage for further damage to vital, pristine ecosystems and the destruction of more natural habitats and barriers. So now it is just a matter of time until another novel virus jumps the species barrier and infects humans. And it’s entirely possible that the next one will have both the lethality or MERS and the contagiousness of COVID-19.

If ever there was a time for joining forces and pulling together as a nation, a global community, and a single species, this is it. COVID-19 does not recognize national borders or social boundaries. It will infect and possibly kill anyone regardless of nationality, race, religion, gender, sex, age, education, wealth, social status, or political affiliation.

It is critically important that we find a way to create a coordinated, global response to this mortal peril because it will almost inevitably not be the final pandemic our world will face. Without rational, scientifically guided, and cooperative multinational leadership, “ET” will prevail, and human civilization as we know it will be doomed.

I seem to recall many years ago, Popular Science or one of those type magazines printed an article about an alien invasion and what would the US do. According to the story, we do have standing plans for such a contingency. The first order of business was to round them up and squeeze them for information. Just about what you would expect.

As far as the governments of the world banding together in order to save all of us, I wouldn’t hold my breath. You only have to look to those summit meetings like G7. Lately no one can agree on much, especially the environment. You better have some supplies stocked up and be well armed.

Maybe it's other way around, they are avoiding contact with us because they don't have immunity to germs we carry.

having undergone the alien abduction experience personally
    a few things become clear.
anything that can get to us have likely been doing it for a long time, and they are god at it.
they have a few ways to go to about an invasion.
we would likely never see it happening.
they would create a false reality and fool us all into doing what they want us to do.
the idea that every world is a dream world applies on many levels.
"they" can take apart our world and make it just like a dream world, they seem to do it with hardware.
and at that point it is all about willpower. the moment they use the hardware, they hope you don't know what is going on.
just saying that any invasion will be with our permission. (expressly or by our denial, or at least our failure to rise to the occasion)

Or has it actually been going on already?

All the commerce of the World, most science, medicine, etc.
depends on computers and artificial intelligence - supposedly controlled by Man.

But is it really? - What if an external, alien mind, already controls it?

Man is egotistical, vain, and stupid - Some people recognize this - Most don't.

An alien species may already have complete control of the World
    - And if they want to stay hidden for now they will.

Do you really think the animals at game parks are aware that another species,
    Man is controlling the park?

    Lions in a game park might still think they are king of the jungle;
Never aware of the fact that they are being manipulated and controlled.

And you Human - Do you really think you control the planet you live on ???

They can certainly make artificial reality around the witness because even we can do it. Our technology can already make a moving color holograms. When witnesses say they have seen aliens walking through the walls, they most likely had seen a very realistic hologram projected into their room.

If they have better holograms than we do, why would they risk arm and a limb to approach us? It's much safer to project a hologram. In many close encounters, witnesses reported that alien was quite illuminated, almost enveloped in a thin plasma. These are characteristics of the hologram.

There are other, little known technologies, that we have. Former Facebook's and Google's director of technology, Mary Lou Japsen is currently working on NMR technology that can literally read the state of every cell in your body or brain. I wrote about it before. It's relatively straightforward based on standard science. Biologists know that all cells in our body use light to communicate, so it's not far fetched to imagine technology that can intercept this communication. It would work similarly to the AESA radar. Once you intercept the body's internal communication you can make any reality you want around that person. There is nothing unscientific about that, it's just a question when technology will catch up.

On a different level, aliens can as well locally distort spacetime enough that many strange effects.

I know I did not directly say it in my previous post, but I am pretty sure it is already happening

As we spend most of the time fighting amongst ourselves, I don't hold out much hope for our species.

I liked the writer using the coronavirus pandemic as an example, a situation we dealt with horribly...The world governments were a disaster at working together to contain and eradicate this virus before it spread across the world...At the time we had little knowledge of this virus and it certainly could have been the end of humanity...Same thing if an alien invasion force were to come here, we would have little knowledge of them and it can be the end of humanity...We have a long way to go as a species...

I doubt we would be capable of putting up much resistance to an invader capable of transiting interstellar space. Imagine, for example, a US Navy carrier battle group (which are admittedly starting to become obsolete) of 2020 squaring off against the Spanish Armada.

If they didn't come here to eradicate humanity we could possibly survive in small groups away from our cities, if we weren't in their way or they had no interest in making our species extinct...Of course there will be some survivors who would want to fight the invaders, even if we were beaten and scattered, but it would be a futile endeavour...

I am convinced that past stories point to humans being farmed for something.
but really no idea what they are getting out of us.

I have read many Italian abduction reports that speak of them trying to get to the place where Souls come from as if they have no connection to that...

I read once some British physicist saying that a beam from Large Hadron Collider could cut aircraft carrier in half in less than 14 seconds. Pitty it is 30km in diameter :), but maybe aliens can fit it into less space.

The main conflict of human society is that of capital and labor. More or less, capital always wins, so it is not unimaginable that at some point in future capital will want to get rid of labor all together by making hybrids man/machine laborers.

That's where humans come in. According to statistics behind abduction stories 4 in 5 abductees are human females. Some, admittedly loose estimates, go into millions of abductees just in US.

So, one benefit to aliens would be to use human females as surrogate mothers for their hybrid workers. And they can do it in very secretive and obscure manner, operating only at night in rural areas, wiping out abductee's memories etc. Possibly quite a science fiction, but as well that way they wouldn't even want to conquer us and it might be even in their interest to keep us healthy and and prevent us from killing each other. For them we would literally just be farm animals for breeding.

I am not saying this is true, just that it is where technology is leading our own social and economic setup.

There could be visitors who could not land here or walk on our soil upon first visiting, maybe because of our atmosphere is too different for them or our gravity is way off from their liking for instance and they came not fully prepared for visiting a world like ours, perhaps finding us in passing or knew of our star but not of the planets orbiting when they arrived...

when I go in my garden with a brush to pollinate the plants,
I am sure farming them, but I am sure not breeding with the plants,
I am trying to create the hybrids I am looking for.
guess from the plant's pint of view they might think I am trying to breed with them...
