Music should only be used for intros and brief interludes not during the actual discussion. There is no need to have background music.

Incorrect. It's not called a discussion, It's called a talk show, a podcast. there is the element of entertainment If one doesn't set out with the intention of entertaining people, They will fail... There is more to it than just a and b bro. formatting, and knowing when to intermission and play a music clip is more than helpful. It's a level of skill. You can't forget that there are people listening and to engage them, it's as much about entertaining the listener as it really is anything else honestly.

Here is an example of what Music can do for a Video, This one is mine, The subject is BS, But It performed very well, I made nearly a thousand dollars off this video in total.

Ignore the topic, It's Mandela Bullshit.

Here is another guy, somewhat less skilled, Same basic video. His problem was he took other peoples content and did a poor mashup. You can't do that. You have to be original, Even if it's terrible. Originality performs better than stolen content.

None of the podcasts I listen to have background music so I have no idea what you are talking about. Like I said musical interludes and breaks are fine. I just don't see the point of playing music while people are talking.

I don't think the music adds anything here. Personal taste though. I think with video it is more common. I'm thinking of audio podcasts where it is very rare to hear any music during the discussion. In the rare instances when it does happen it is distracting (although that may be poor execution). Personally I'm more interested in hearing the story and hearing it clearly but again it is my preference and others may well disagree.

Consider any successful podcast, Heck, Look at coast to coast am, There is music sprinkled all over the place, Music is a form of format branding. Sure it's not necessary, But if you only plan on rolling a Lamborghini downhill it wouldn't need an engine, But you would still want one, If for no other reason than to have a proper Lamborghini rolling down that hill.

Are you even reading what I'm saying? C2C is garbage but even they don't have music in the background when people are talking. I said music in other places is FINE.

Yes, I'm reading what you are saying. You are in here giving advice that you know absolutely nothing about, to people who have made a living off making videos, The Question is, Do you know when you accept you don't know what the hell you're talking about?

I am not usually a fan of the "bed" of music under / behind someone talking. I was definitely thinking more of intro / outro or other incidental music.

I didn't say to play it over the talking parts. and I said low volume ambience. It's not a big deal, But The dude is a little highly strung, and maybe a little rude, there is no way I'm giving him this point.

Yep, in fact I will switch a program off when and if the background music is interfering with my listening...

It's clear you guys aren't seeing what I'm talking about here. Sound editing is part of every podcast, Ambience has a definition. :/

Analytically I'm not. The more work you put into a video, The more it pays off in the end. This includes every aspect of creation.

A quick way to settle this, Name your favourite podcast, Is it just two people talking? There is music. and in a lot of cases, that sound will overlap into transitions sound editing is really important.

The only rude person here is you.

You responded multiple times to me expressing my opinion as if your video making somehow overrode it - like you are now the authority on what makes a good podcast or not.

Further you didn't even have the courtesy to read what I said correctly because all along I was talking about background music in podcasts when people are talking - I said music in other places was fine if it was done right.

That is my opinion, personal preference as I made clear.

The icing on the cake is the ad hominems - lol - how am I the highly strung one here? If someone disagreeing with you offends you so much that is your problem not mine.

What's the first 3 words of the title of this thread?..."In your opinion"...

So these are all opinions, even yours, let the opinions be posted without being so rude, you think you are right and everyone is wrong but that is also an opinion...

The way I see it, This is two guys opinions, Verses about seventy courses on Youtube about making content, That explains explicitly how important sound is in content creation. I'm just saying.

Imagine a Tv show or a movie where there was no background ambience or mood setting. Entertainment, That is the main goal above all else even the topic, in an online video creation world.

I mean people can take whatever view they want on content creation. It's just Jesus, When Will people give me that moment when they admit, Maybe Shadow knows something about this subject.

    Sigh.
