No not any controling PID regulators in the code. It was a pure sensing and alarm presenting system, with 2 interconnected operator stations. One on the bridge, and the other one down in ECR Engine Control Room. It was built with two WAGO IPC plc units.
I could send you a link to my paper,, but its in swedish, with only the abstract in english..
The system had abt 50 sensors connected.

When I later was hired at sea as 2nd Eng, it was on a cruise ship with 8000+ inputs,, a lot of events and values to control and monitor. ABB system... My role onboard was kinda like Homer Simpson.
Push buttons and yell diff. commands to the philippino crew on the radio all day long..

That's an interesting line of work, especially considering it isn't your only one.. :p Thank you!

I only work on that type of equipment when called upon, otherwise I'm an engineer and a supervisor for a corporation I'm employed by...

Thank you everyone for your input and advice... I decided to talk it over with one of my professors and have chosen to stay with my current field of study, and pursue either something in Networking or Software Development. :)

That's great, had an intern working before the holiday break, we had 12 days off paid for xmas which was nice, when I return to work next week will have the same intern for a little while longer...Software development is a good direction to go, I like the engineering and creativity aspects...
