New documentaries to cover classic alien abduction cases

A pair of new Discovery+ documentaries will cover two of the world's most chilling alien abduction stories. Debuting on the streaming service on February 18th, the two new "Shock Docs" will cover the story of Travis Walton, as well as that of Barney and Betty Hill.

Walton's encounter occurred on November 5th 1975 when he, along with seven of his co-workers, encountered a strange luminous disc in Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. Walton had got out of the truck to approach the craft when he was hit by a bluish light which threw him to the ground. His co-workers fled the scene in a panic, but when they returned a short time later they found that both he and the mysterious object had disappeared. Walton would eventually turn up five days later, scared, confused and with fleeting memories of having encountered strange extraterrestrial entities during the time he was missing.

Barney and Betty Hill had been driving home from a vacation in Niagara Falls on September 19th, 1961 when they spotted a strange light that seemed to be following them. After a time, the UFO turned and descended towards them, forcing Barney to hit the breaks to avoid a collision. When he got out of the car with his binoculars, he was certain that he could see a number of 'humanoid figures' looking back at him from inside it.

Terrified, the couple got back in their car and attempted to flee, however the object had moved directly above their vehicle, producing a peculiar series of beeping and buzzing sounds. They then experienced a period of missing time, after which they became aware that they had traveled some 35 miles along the road without recalling the journey.

"With new forensic technologies not available in the '60s and '70s, and access to the remarkably preserved physical evidence from these two cases, investigators re-examine the key pieces of evidence to see if they can prove that humans have had physical contact with extraterrestrials," a press release for the new documentaries reads.

"The Shock Docs reveal new discoveries in both of these cases."
