The inflation bomb was dropped by Trump during his four year reign; it just hasn't gone off yet.

We had a booming economy until the Chinese, intentionally or not released SARS-CoV-2 onto the world and it got into the American population...

This blame Trump for everything mantra is beating a dead horse and to me it just reduces the quality of discussion to bring him up continually and blame him for everything...Sure Trump was a shitty President, no argument there, but he did not cause this inflation we're experiencing now...

I mentioned it because wasn't he the one who began the practice of the Fed dishing out large amounts of money ?
Not saying it wasn't necessary at the time. But the Fed will want it all back eventually.

Hence tax rises.

Many governments in first world countries did the same thing last year, the governments are not to blame, on the contrary, the blame falls squarely on the release of SARS-CoV-2, whether it was intentional or accidental...You're right though, printing ungodly amounts of money and distributing it into the economic system does have direct implications, inflation is one of those effects and the pandemic holds some blame for it too...Now is not the time for our government to go on a non-pandemic spending spree covering a wishlist of expenditures which has been impacting the economy even more than it already has been...I have no problem with some of the spending packages Biden wants, but I think it isn't the right time for that now, get the pandemic out of the way first and make sure we don't have to blow more money on Covid before we go printing ungodly amounts of money again for other things...

One of the side effects has been the reluctance of some people to return to work because the benefit they are getting to stay at home is, when you take into consideration the costs involved of getting to work etc, making staying home ore attractive.

This has always been a problem though. No easy way around it.

Maybe Darwin was right.

Darwin didn't have a clue, if he had access to the the data we have now he would have revised his ideas greatly...

Biden asks Saudi Arabia and OPEC to produce MORE oil as inflation sends gas prices soaring - after HE shut down America's Keystone pipeline

The Biden administration is sounding the alarm about fast-rising energy prices and demanding that Saudi Arabia and OPEC produce more oil - after the president paused all federal oil and gas leases.

Prices at the pump are on average about $1.00 higher, 42%, than they were one year ago. 'Higher gasoline costs, if left unchecked, risk harming the ongoing global recovery,' National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said in a statement Wednesday. He called on the world's largest oil producers, including OPEC nations and Saudi Arabia, to up their production.

OPEC+ cut production by 10 million barrels per day at the height of the pandemic in 2020, and in July agreed to increase production by 400,000 barrels per day.

'At a critical moment in the global recovery, this is simply not enough,' he said, adding that the administration was pressuring oil producers to undo the production cuts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The statement comes as the administration weighs inflation concerns with rising fuel prices against its climate change agenda, which led to cuts on the U.S.'s ability to produce its own oil.

I actually agree with you there. There are too many gaps.

But he was mostly right about the survival of the fittest.

Surely the idea is is to greatly reduce the use of oil. Increasing the cost of petrol and Diesel helps by forcing the development of more efficient engines.

But he was mostly right about the survival of the fittest.

Actually he is not right about that...Survival of the most violent would be a better statement, as human history reveals, it's not the fittest who survive, it's the most violent...The most violent may not be the fittest but since they're holding the better weapons likely along with lower moral standards, the fittest don't stand a chance...The North and South American natives a few centuries ago can attest to this...

it's not the fittest who survive, it's the most violent..

It's whoever plays the game best.

2001. One hairy boy gets zapped and suddenly figures out he can take last night's leftovers and make sure he gets more to eat the next night because he's a better tool user all of a sudden.

One could argue that the trait of violence makes those people the fittest. Reasoning that that is what it takes to survive.

If the smartest were the fittest, they would have eliminated the potential violent ones as soon as the trait became obvious.

That is why we are in the current mess. We allow the nasties to become dominant instead of shutting them down at the beginning.
So called civilised society is too soft.

What do you call a 4" pigmy with a Kalashnikov ?

Sir.

All important questions in life will of course be addressed by TOS Star Trek. In this case the The Enemy Within.

Dan Carlin did a fantastic series Wrath of the Khans an referred to Genghis as an 'historical arsonist' and likened his behavior to a forest fire. In the long run it's good for you - really - but when you ass is on fire it may not seem so right at that moment. All the violence, competition, war, greed, kindness, altruism, logic, intellect - all of it - make up the soup. It's what makes us what we are and allowed us to thrive. So yeah, essentially the people who put cool golden records on probes are the same ones who stuff one another into ovens from time to time. Can't separate the wheat from the chaff so easily, but if you have a transporter you apparently can divvie up Capt. Kirk pretty easily.
