Capitol Police raises questions with job listing to hire own federal prosecutors: 'Who signed off on this?'

A new listing on a federal government job board is raising constitutional questions, as Capitol Police are looking to hire their own prosecutors.

The listing for an attorney position, posted July 29 on USAJobs.gov, says in the description that the employee would "serve as a Special Assistant United States Attorney" in the Capitol Police's District Offices. The salary is between $145,094 and $186,368 per year.

"This position is to represent the United States Government primarily prosecuting individuals and/or groups who have engaged in threats and/or acts of violence against Members of Congress, their staffs, United States Capitol Police employees, visitors to the Capitol complex, and facilities and properties within the Capitol Complex," the listing says.

Notably, the agency listed for the prosecutor's job is the Capitol Police, not the Department of Justice. Therein lies the problem, according to Mike Davis, founder of the Article 3 Project.

"It is constitutionally wrong to have prosecutors report to law enforcement. It should be the other way around," Davis said.

Posing a greater problem, Davis said, is that the leadership of the Capitol Police is a three-person board that includes the House and Senate Sergeants-at-Arms — who are nominated by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

"This is clearly unconstitutional to have federal prosecutors working for Speaker Pelosi and Chuck Schumer in Congress," Davis said, since prosecution falls under the Executive Branch, not Congress. He also noted how special prosecutors often have a tremendous amount of autonomy.

"They're going to be able to do whatever they hell they want," Davis said.

It used to be the case in England and Wales that prosecutions were the responsibility of the police, until the creation of the Crown Prosecution Service. Policing and criminal justice used to work better in those days. The police have since offloaded a lot of responsibilities that they used to have onto other organizations and non-uniformed support staff, and now they claim they are too busy to do the work of actual policing

Over 230 economists warn Manchin's spending bill will perpetuate inflation

(Excerpt)

A letter sent to House and Senate leadership from 230 economists argue that the Infrastructure Reduction Act is expected to contribute to skyrocketing inflation and will burden the U.S. economy, contrary to President Biden and Democrats' claims.

The economists wrote in the letter first obtained by Fox News Digital that the U.S. economy is at a "dangerous crossroads" and the "inaptly named ‘Inflation Reduction Act of 2022’ would do nothing of the sort and instead would perpetuate the same fiscal policy errors that have helped precipitate the current troubling economic climate."

The economic experts point out the $433 billion in proposed government spending, which the experts argue "would create immediate inflationary pressures by boosting demand, while the supply-side tax hikes would constrain supply by discouraging investment and draining the private sector of much-needed resources."

Fears serial killer targeting Muslims has struck AGAIN: Fourth Muslim man is gunned down in Albuquerque as community leaders say 'we fear for the safety of our children and our families'

Police say Albuquerque killing could be related to the murders of three others in New

Albuquerque Police Chief Harold Medina (left) said the murder of the latest victim, who was not yet identified, is believed to be related to the three fatal shooting that have taken place within a five-mile radius of each other in the last nine months. The first victim was Afghan chef Mohammad Ahmadi (bottom right), 62, found outside the cafe he ran with his brother - Ariana Halal Market & Cafe - on November 7. The second was 41-year-old Pakistani-born restaurant busser Aftab Hussein (top right), who moved to New Mexico in 2016. On Monday the third victim was killed: 27-year-old city planner and community organizer Muhammad Afzaal Hussain (bottom left), also originally from Pakistan. The newest murder, which coincided with another shooting in the area, happened just after midnight on Saturday in the east side of the city.

DOJ confirms FBI raid on Trump's Mar-a-Lago home, former president calls it 'political persecution'

Former President Trump on Monday said that his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida is "under siege" by a "large group" of FBI agents conducting a search warrant.

"Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before. After working and cooperating with the relevant Government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate," Trump said. "It is prosecutorial misconduct, the weaponization of the Justice System, and an attack by Radical Left Democrats who desperately don't want me to run for President in 2024, especially based on recent polls, and who will likewise do anything to stop Republicans and Conservatives in the upcoming Midterm Elections."

"Such an assault could only take place in broken, Third-World Countries. Sadly, America has now become one of those Countries, corrupt at a level not seen before," Trump said, alleging that the FBI agents broke into his safe.

"What is the difference between this and Watergate, where operatives broke into the Democrat National Committee?" he said. "Here, in reverse, Democrats broke into the home of the 45th President of the United States."

A source familiar told Fox News that the raid occurred early this morning. The source said agents brought a "safe cracker" and cracked a "relatively new" safe in Mar-a-Lago. The source told Fox News there was "nothing in it."

Multiple sources tell Fox News the FBI's raid of Mar-a-Lago is related to the materials Trump allegedly brought to his private residence after his presidency concluded. That matter was referred to the Justice Department by the National Archives and Records Administration, which said it found classified material in 15 boxes at the residence.

Federal law bars the removal of classified documents to unauthorized locations, though it is possible that Trump could try to argue that, as president, he was the ultimate declassification authority.

A source familiar told Fox News that FBI agents went to Mar-a-Lago and looked in every single office, safe, and grabbed documents and boxes without going through them on the property. They took boxes and documents to go through them later.

"They were not being judicious about what they took," the source told Fox News. South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, one of many criticizing the raid, called it "an unprecedented political weaponization of the Justice Department."

"They've been after President Trump as a candidate, as President, and now as a former President," Noem tweeted. "Using the criminal justice system in this manner is un-American."

Trump was in New York City when the raid was carried out and is now headed to Bedminster, Fox News has learned. An FBI source confirmed that FBI agents from Washington, D.C. who are on the bureau's Evidence Response Team conducted the raid and notified the Miami Field Office just before.

Per standard protocol, FBI Director Wray and Attorney General Garland were aware of the raid even if shortly before and would have been fully briefed.

A White House official told Fox News it did not have any notice of the reported action and referred all additional questions to the DOJ.

A separate investigation into efforts by Trump allies to undo the results of the 2020 presidential election and the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol has intensified in Washington in recent weeks, particularly with the January 6 congressional committee holding hearings to reveal its findings.

Per sources familiar with the matter, the FBI raid is related to the alleged taking of potential classified information upon leaving Washington on January 2021 – not the January 6th investigation.

If they don't have the goods, this unprecedented raid is proof the 'Deep State' wants to destroy Trump. How ironic they've made him a martyr - and a better bet than EVER for the White House in 2024

MEGHAN MCCAIN: If they don't have the goods, raid is proof 'Deep State' wants to destroy

What was done Monday sails America into uncharted waters. The FBI is forcing us all to question them and, by recourse, defend Trump. And I really don't want to because, quite frankly, I hate the man. I believe he and his disciples are an existential threat to both America and the Republican party. Unfortunately, right now, the bar is set extremely high for the FBI. They must justify raiding an ex-president's home. If they don't have the goods, if they haven't absolutely nailed it, they have made one of the most disastrous mistakes of all. What I fear is that if this raid turns out to be a red herring, it rallies Republicans across the party to defend Trump. It makes Trump a martyr. Once again, he will be seen as such a threat to the Deep State and the Swamp that the career bureaucrats who run our institutions will stop at nothing to try and destroy him. And that, ladies and gentlemen, will be President Trump's next stump speech.

Let's not forget what Trump himself threatened to do to Hillary Clinton. You may not like Clinton, and I do not, but Trump was confused about the importance of the separation of state powers. He said that he would direct a special prosecutor to investigate Clinton, and one of his campaign slogans that he was fond of repeating was "lock her up", meaning Clinton.

Trump: If elected, I’ll appoint a special prosecutor to look into Clinton’s emails

Donald Trump said during Sunday's presidential debate that, if elected, he would appoint a special prosecutor to look into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server while she was secretary of state.

"I didn’t think I’d say this and I’m going to say it and I hate to say it. … If I win, I am going to instruct my attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation because there has never been so many lies, so much deception," Trump said.

And now he and his supporters are complaining that the justice system has been politicized. FBI director Christopher Wray is also Trump's own pick.

Indeed, the proof is in the pudding, if this is political persecution as Trump claims, it will be revealed, although this may nip his chances at running in 2024...I'm in the fence with this case because I don't have enough information to sway my opine one way or another...This could be bogus as the fake Russian collusion debacle was, but that took a few years for the truth to come out...

Regardless of how you feel about Trump, love him or hate him, this is a dangerous precedent and we should all be concerned. Possibly weaponizing the FBI to carry out political raids will not end well.

I saw a documentary about the Ruby Ridge incident a while back. A US marshal was surveilling the Weaver family cabin one day when the family dog came after him. He shot and killed the dog. Enraged, Randy Weaver's 14-year-old son, Sammy, shot and killed the Marshal. Another Marshal then shot and killed him. In just a matter of seconds, there was dead federal agent and a dead child.

The DNC strategy backing Trump Republicans makes me think this raid is another tactic to provoke him to run. A risky strategy that could backfire, maybe we just saw that happen. DTs personality is his greatest advantage and greatest weakness.

Really, Joe? President massages July's inflation figures and says US experienced ZERO inflation when in fact it stood at 8.5%: Gas prices drop but food and rent costs soar for American families

Joe Biden today repeatedly claimed the US saw 'zero inflation' last month - despite it actually remaining high at 8.5 percent following a 40-year spike in June.

The President told a press conference he reached the figure because the price of some products went up while the cost of others went down by the same amount.

The 79-year-old suggested it meant there was 'zero percent inflation in the month of July' but admitted many Americans were 'still hurting' from the crippling cost of living crisis.

His latest claim comes just two weeks after Biden refused to admit the US was in a recession - despite economists' warnings - and pushed the idea he was responsible for growth in the economy.

The government on Wednesday released the consumer price report showing inflation hit 8.5 percent for the month of July - down from 9.1 percent in June.

On a monthly basis, prices were unchanged from June to July, the smallest such rise for more than two years. Still, prices are spiking across a wide range of goods and services, leaving most Americans worse off.

Average paychecks are rising faster than they have in decades - but not fast enough to keep up with accelerating costs for such items as food, rent, autos and medical services.

In response to the Hillary Clinton email scandal, did not Trump himself signed a law that made it a felony to remove and retain classified documents?...The raid on Mar-a-Lago was based largely on information from an FBI confidential source...Perhaps they should verify the reliability of that source (if they did not do so) because, wasn't the Russian collusion hoax started the same way, based on the Information of one source which turned out to be unreliable?...How many years was that hoax dragged out and how many millions of taxpayer dollars wasted in the process?...The Russian collusion hoax appears to have been a deliberate attempt to undermine his Presidency, this current FBI investigation could be a deliberate attempt to keep Trump out of the 2024 elections, or they may legitimately have something on him, time will tell...

The FBI (and the White House for that matter) must know how bad this will be for them if they find nothing...I heard they went through Melania’s wardrobe as well?...Sounds like the spirit of J Edgar Hoover is still alive in the FBI...How many covert cameras and microphones did the FBI leave behind?...There should be an investigation of the FBI after this is over and it needs to be out in the open and clean...

The Founding Fathers were concerned about government abuse by those in positions of power, hence the framework and wording of the Constitution to limit the power of the federal government...We definitely see that in current times today, laws abused and misused by the ruling elite as if they are above the law...For anyone in power to say that we need fundamental change in this country and in its laws is abusing their given power because fundamental change of our country is not support of our Constitution, amendments are one thing, fundamental change is quite another...If the federal government can perform this raid to not just an ex-President but also political opponent and if nothing substantial comes out of all this, then it will solidify the notion that the federal government has been abused and weaponized against the people...This will divide the country even more so...

Even the slug Andrew Cuomo came out and said something along the lines of the DOJ must immediately explain the Mar-a-Lago Raid or it will be viewed as a political tactic...If Trump is found to have unauthorized classified material in his possession by all means prosecute him just like they did Hillary...Oh wait...
