Experts on red alert for mega-earthquake off the US coast - after discovering a crack in 600-mile long fault line at the bottom of the Pacific

Scientists fear a hole in a 600-mile-long fault line in the Pacific could trigger a catastrophic earthquake that would decimate cities along the northwestern US.

The hole spewing hot liquid sits 50 miles off the shoreline of Oregon, on the boundary of the dipping fault known as Cascadia Subduction Zone, which spans from Northern California into Canada.

This geological feature is capable of unleashing a magnitude-9 earthquake in the Pacific Northwest - and the hole could be the fuel it needs.

The leak was first observed in 2015, but a new analysis led by the University of Washington (UW) suggests the chemically distinct liquid is 'fault lubricant.'

This liquid allows plates to move smoothly, but without it, 'stress can build to create a damaging quake,' researchers said.

If electric cars were suddenly affordable to the average person, then that would trigger a massive energy crisis of its own. At this point in time, there can only be a privileged few using electric cars as, consumer cost considerations aside, no country in the world has the energy generating capacity to suddenly switch to electric cars in place of internal combustion-engined ones.

Another ongoing problem with electric vehicles is the seemingly spontaneous combustion of EV batteries...This problem will only get worse I think and these fires seem to be more difficult to extinguish...

Here's the latest incident I've read about:

First responders sound alarm over EV batteries after a row of electric F-150s burst into flames: 'Totally different'

Stone of Destiny heads south for coronation

OK, I understand it's meaning. But it's a friggin' rock ................ strange thing to quibble over. Not like there aren't other, possibly waaaay cooler rocks elsewhere. Especially strange with all the cool hats and swords and stuff. Nice feathers.

Stone of Destiny heads south for coronation

The Stone of Destiny has left Edinburgh Castle for the first time in more than 25 years as it heads to London for the coronation of King Charles III.
The stone, an ancient symbol of Scotland's monarchy, was seized by King Edward I of England in the late 13th Century and taken to Westminster Abbey.
It remained in England for 700 years and formed part of the coronation chair on which kings and queens were crowned.
The stone was returned for permanent display in Scotland in 1996.
But it was was agreed it would return to Westminster Abbey for any future coronation ceremony.
There will be a free live screening of the coronation in Edinburgh's West Princes Street Gardens on 6 May.

The 150kg (336lb) red sandstone slab, also known as the Stone of Scone, is 66cm (26in) long, 42cm (17in) wide, and 27cm (10.5in) high.
It was used for the coronation of Scots kings for hundreds of years before being taken by Edward I of England in 1296, during the Wars of Independence.
He made the stone part of a carved oak coronation chair which has been used during the inauguration of 26 Kings and queens at Westminster Abbey since.
The stone stayed in England for hundreds of years, until Christmas Day in 1950 when four students from Glasgow broke into Westminster Abbey and took it back to Scotland.

They were led by Ian Hamilton, who wanted to make a statement about Scottish self-rule.
Mr Hamilton, who died last year, told the BBC in a rare interview: "The Stone of Destiny is Scotland's icon,.

"In one of the many invasions by the English into Scotland, they took away the symbol of our nation.
"To bring it back was a very symbolic gesture."
The stone reappeared months later 500 miles away in Arbroath Abbey - a place that was important to Scotland's independence history.
On 11 April 1951, it was returned to Westminster Abbey and replaced in the coronation chair where two years later it had a greater prominence than ever as Queen Elizabeth's coronation was broadcast on television.

In July 1996, the Queen, along with Prime Minister John Major, agreed the stone should be returned to Scotland.
It now sits next to the crown jewels of Scotland in the Edinburgh Castle Crown Room.

In preparation for its temporary departure to London, a ceremonial procession took place from the castle's Great Hall, led by the Lord Lyon King of Arms - the monarch's representative in Scotland.
Scotland's First Minister Humza Yousaf was in attendance in his capacity as the Keeper of the Great Seal of Scotland.

Historic Environment Scotland (HES), who care for the stone, worked with Police Scotland to ensure it could be transported safely and securely.
It will be transported in a special carrier constructed largely from Scottish oak, which has been made by HES's in-house joinery team.
Kathy Richmond, head of collections and applied conservation, said it was a great responsibility to ensure the safe voyage and return of such an important national symbol.
Mr Yousaf said the stone had a rich and varied history and had been used for centuries in coronations.
The stone will return to Edinburgh Castle in the weeks following the coronation, before it makes its way to Perth in 2024 to be housed in the new Perth Museum.

Countdown to carnage: Biden administration admits migrants will be RELEASED into US with NO WAY to track them as crowds build in Texas, Arizona and California with Title 42 ending TOMORROW

The Biden administration has admitted that thousands of migrants will pour into the United States with draconian Covid-era deportation powers set to be scrapped.

U.S. officials estimate that already as many as 10,000 people are crossing from Mexico every day.

They say numbers will soar once Title 42, an emergency coronavirus law that makes easier to boot out illegals, expires at midnight on Thursday.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas warned the days and weeks ahead have the 'potential to be very difficult.'

Authorities have tweaked asylum rules that will reject any claims that have not been lodged online first.

Would-be migrants who fail to do that can also be denied the right to stay in the U.S. if they have travelled through a safe country without seeking protection there.

Another rule, called Title 8, means that migrants caught sneaking into the U.S. should be deported quickly but also face a five-year ban on applying for legal entry.

'Our plan will deliver results but it will take time time for those results to be fully realized,' Mayorkas said.

Joe Biden himself has also said that he expects the surge in asylum-seekers crossing will be 'chaotic for a while.'

More info on the accused leaker and his group.
The Senate wants to prevent similar leaks in the future.

The first bill — the Classification Reform Act of 2023 — designates the director of national intelligence as the point person to lead a whole-of-government reform. It requires that information only take on a classification level if it passes a test where the need to classify outweighs the public-interest right to know. The bill enforces a maximum 25-year period for classification unless the president or an agency head intervenes to extend classification beyond that period. It also creates financial incentives that effectively tax agencies based on how many records they classify. Those proceeds then go to bettering technology solutions for classification and declassification.
The second bill — the Sensible Classification Act of 2023 — promotes more efficient declassification and expands oversight by adding staff to the Public Interest Declassification Board. It also directs the federal government to develop better technological solutions for classification and declassification and also study the number and types of security clearances.

Chicago residents launch legal action over plans to house 500 illegal immigrants inside a shuttered high school - with one irate neighbor saying: 'Build the wall, make a border'

Furious residents of Chicago have filed a lawsuit against the city after it announced plans to house illegal immigrants in a disused high school in the South Side.

The old South Shore High School is expected to become a temporary holding space for up to 500 migrants, but officials have not clarified for how long.

The lawsuit was filed after on May 4 hundreds of South Shore residents packed into an auditorium and bombarded local officials with criticism over plans to house the migrants in the school, complaining about safety and a lack of consultation.

'How could you do that without consulting us?' a resident said in response.

'Build the wall. Make a border,' shouted another.

Title 42 EXPIRES: U.S. braces as migrants try to evade Border Patrol as COVID restrictions are finally dropped after three years and thousands wait to try and cross from Mexico

Title 42 has officially ended with the U.S. bracing for a record surge of migrants despite the Biden administration insisting its new border immigration strategy would be a success. In El Paso, they stepped across a muddy stream and through coils of razor wire. Thousands forded the Rio Grande, which marks the international border to arrive in Brownsville. In Yuma, 53-year-old Ruth raised her hand heavenwards in thanks. 'We praise God for opening the way for us,' she said, as her 12-year-old son skipped alongside her. The new policy suffered an immediate setback, however. While toughening some restrictions it also sought to offer a new legal pathway for those with genuine asylum claims. The legislation was shot down by a judge in Florida who ruled the administration could not use parole - effectively releasing unprocessed migrants - in order to relieve pressure on detention facilities.

Russian court fairly lenient on anti-Putin critic.
Irina Tsybaneva, a 60-year-old retiree from St. Petersburg, was found guilty and given a two-year suspended prison sentence for leaving the letter at the graves of Putin’s parents, Vladimir Spiridonovich Putin and Maria Ivanovna Shelomova.

The note that Tsybaneva placed on the guarded grave on the eve of Putin’s birthday in October read, "Parents of a maniac, take him to your place. He causes so much pain and trouble. The whole world prays for his death. Death to Putin. You raised a monster and a murderer."
Rude note on a gravestone seems like a novel method of protest.

'It's upsetting how they're treating Americans': Florida couple's wedding in turmoil as New York hotel suddenly cancels THIRTY rooms they booked for their guests to make way for migrants

Gary Moretti, 37, and Deanna Mifsud, 35, (middle) slammed The Crossroads Hotel (inset) in Newburgh after they discovered it had cancelled 30 rooms they had booked just weeks before their nuptials to make room for migrants (left and right). Moretti said the move, which comes after the end of Title 42 sparked a rush of migrants across the southern border, could end up costing the couple upwards of $20,000 as they scramble to find new accommodation for their 160 guests. 'It's absolutely upsetting how they're treating American people. How do tax paying people have to deal with this?' he asked. Moretti said he only discovered the crisis after he saw on the news that hotels upstate were preparing to accept large numbers of migrants pouring over the border at the expiration of Title 42. The large number of migrants in upstate New York is the result of Mayor Eric Adams' decision to bus the asylum seekers north to alleviate the pressure on the Big Apple, as more than 10,000 people a day crossed the southern border in record numbers .

Frantic East Palestine residents were initially told derailed chemical train was only carrying 'some type of drinking ALCOHOL' after Norfolk Southern said 'tankers were all malt liquor,' 911 calls reveal

Residents of East Palestine, Ohio, were initially told by authorities that the Norfolk Southern chemical train that derailed and exploded was only carrying malt liquor, DailyMail.com can reveal.

Newly emerged audio recordings of frantic 911 calls following the February 3 disaster show emergency dispatchers had at first reassured callers that there was no need to evacuate after being advised the train cars contained 'some type of drinking alcohol.'

But they would later learn five of the 38 cars were actually also carrying toxic substances including vinyl chloride, a gas used to make plastic, whose burning fumes have since left residents with respiratory problems and skin irritation.
