Governor Hochul brags about subway safety hours after killing on train — and social media erupts

New York Governor Kathy Hochul was slammed on social media Sunday after touting how safe the New York City subway system has become thanks to her efforts – just hours after a woman was set on fire and burned to death on a train.

In an X post on Sunday, Hochul claimed that crime has decreased on Big Apple trains since she deployed the National Guard in March. Last week, Hochul sent 750 National Guard members to the subways in an effort to curb holiday crime.

In March, I took action to make our subways safer for the millions of people who take the trains each day," Hochul's post read. "Since deploying the @NationalGuardNY to support @NYPDnews and @MTA safety efforts and adding cameras to all subway cars, crime is going down, and ridership is going up.

Hochul's post came around eight hours after a migrant from Guatemala allegedly set a woman on fire and watched her burn to death on an F train in Brooklyn. The horrific crime had been widely reported by the time the governor's tweet went up.

New Jersey ends basic reading and writing skills test requirement for teachers

Teachers in New Jersey will no longer be required to pass a basic reading, writing and mathematics test to be eligible for public schools, according to a new law.

Act 1669, which was signed into law by Gov. Phil Murphy, D., in June, went into effect on Wednesday at the start of the new year. The law aims to tackle teacher shortages in the state by removing what the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA), a teachers’ union, called a "barrier" to certification in 2023.

The law states, "[T]he State Board of Education shall not require a candidate seeking a certificate of eligibility, a certificate of eligibility with advanced standing, a provisional certificate, or a standard instructional certificate to complete a Commissioner of Education-approved test of basic reading, writing, and mathematics skills including, but not limited to, the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators test, in order to obtain a certificate of eligibility, a certificate of eligibility with advanced standing, a provisional certificate, or a standard instructional certificate."

"We need more teachers. This is the best way to get them," Democratic state Sen. Jim Beach argued when the bill was passed.

Escaped spider monkey turns up on side of highway still wearing its signature pink tutu: ‘Bananas situation’

Now that’s a funky monkey.

An escaped spider monkey in a pink tutu was rescued on the side of a Missouri highway after running up to a sheriff’s deputy and tugging on his pant leg in search of help.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the clever 8-pound primate made its escape from a house it was staying at when it opened the front door and wandered into the great outdoors on Friday.

The primate was soon reunited with its babysitter and brought back home.

Deputies responded to a call for an animal complaint involving a monkey and came upon the animal near Highway 21 and Highway M around 4 p.m., about an hour southwest of St. Louis, the department wrote in a tongue-in-cheek Facebook post.

“After careful negotiations and some coaxing, Deputies were able to get close enough to go ‘hands on’ with the subject and bring this bananas situation under control without incident.”

In an adorable twist, the frightened spider monkey welcomed the rescue effort.

A drone collided with one of those super scoop fire fighting planes in California and put it out of commission for a few days at a time when it's needed most. They have pieces of the drone and will figure out who it belongs to.

I know this isn't New Jersey but .... shouldn't the same apply over here regarding drones? I bet they figure out who the owner is real fast in California.

Trump made that peculiar statement about 'coming from someone's garage' and 'they know who it is'

Well, OK I give. Who is it ?

"We'll work backwards through investigative means to try and recreate that drone and figure out what company owns that drone and who it was assigned to," said Davis.

During a news conference Thursday, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman reiterated that anyone caught flying a drone faces severe consequences.

"If you're thinking that it's fine to send a drone up in the area for your own amusement, or you want to get information that nobody else can get, and you do it in one of these areas that for which drones are not permitted ... you will be arrested, you will be prosecuted and you will be punished to the full extent of the law," he said.

According to the FAA, you can still be arrested and fined, even if TFRs are not in place.

Tires screeching and a loud crash got me out of bed at 0300 once a few years ago. My garbage was everywhere and my mailbox and post were destroyed. My neighbor ran out and he's an excitable fellow who started screaming and yelling to no good purpose.

I noted black plastic all over the place so I simply picked it all up and went back to bed. Over coffee I reassembled the side mirror for a 1994 Buick something. I drove slowly around the neighborhood until, like Cinderella, I found the exact match and knocked on the door.

Long story short I got the little teenage miscreant to cough up $$ for a new pole and mailbox. That's what the drone pieces reminded me of ............. :)

It says it is an "ultralight 249g" drone, which is a weight that puts it just under the 250g weight limit required for registration in many jurisdictions (including the US). I wonder if there is going to be pressure to lower that minimum weight limit after this.

Meghan Markle is 'like a Mean Girls teenager' and would become 'cold' and 'throw staff to the wolves': Bombshell report

Meghan Markle has been described as acting 'like a Mean Girls teenager' and becoming 'cold' towards staff in a damning profile in Vanity Fair. The Duchess of Sussex would reportedly be 'warm and effusive' towards employees at the start before turning 'cold and withholding toward the person she perceived to be responsible' when something 'went poorly, often due to Meghan and Harry's own demands'. A source who worked in media projects told the publication: 'She's constantly playing checkers- I'm not even going to say chess - but she's just very aware of where everybody is on her board.'

Jaw-dropping outburst of Haitian migrant as ICE raids ramp up around the country after Trump takes office

A Haitian man with a lengthy criminal record shouted 'F**k Trump, Biden forever!' as he was arrested by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement during a deportation raid. The Trump administration has started rounding up violent undocumented immigrants in sanctuary cities all over the country, including the alleged leader of a Haitian gang and murder and rape suspects in Boston.

The agitated Haitian migrant, who wasn't named but who has 17 recent convictions, said he 'ain't going back to Haiti' as he was placed in a police car. Fox News accompanied ICE during the roundups and shared footage of the arrests. 'Thank Obama for everything he did for me, bro!' the migrant added.

ICE officers in Boston said they also arrested multiple MS-13 gang members in the Boston raids. 'Today was a good day. Today we took several significant public safety threats out of our communities,' Patricia Hyde, ICE Boston Acting Director, told Fox News. 'Unfortunately, a lot were released by sanctuary policies. But we’re here to tell the Commonwealth and the rest of the country that we're going to find them, whether they’re released or not.'

The last time I heard of a nuclear drill here in New York was in elementary school and it was duck & cover. All those drills would really accomplish is to give you a chance to bend over and kiss your ass goodbye, but I digress....

No, this isn't suspicious right on the heels of the drone nonsense, not at all.

Albany is about 75 miles north of here and that's where the drill is taking place, for whatever scary reason.

I don't believe it for a minute, if it was the FAA, they could have and should have announced it at the height of the incidents, especially when the airspace became restricted...Smells like a cover up to me...

I think there was such a yawning credibility gap with the last administration that everything smells conspiratorial.

The real question is what were they doing and why all of a sudden are we having a nuclear drill ? I've read that these are regular but have yet to meet anyone that has ever heard of them, at least with the word 'nuclear' attached to it - that is an attention getter.

DR PHIL: Dry your eyes, Selena Gomez. The child rapists and murderers I saw detained in Trump's migrant raids don't deserve your tears

Renowed talk show host Dr. Phil McGraw has responded to actress and singer Selena Gomez, who posted a hysterical video this week sobbing and railing against President Donald Trump's ongoing illegal immigrant crackdown.

After embedding with ICE agents in Chicago over the weekend, Dr Phil is now convinced that if Gomez had seen what he saw, she wouldn't be shedding tears.

'I certainly don't think she was crying for these individuals,' said Dr Phil, in an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail after he was reportedly granted full access to the ICE operations that rounded up more than 100 individuals since Sunday.

'I wanted to see [the immigration enforcement raids] for myself, Dr Phil told the Mail. 'There were no restrictions. There was no room I couldn't go into. There was no meeting I couldn't attend.'

Footage of Dr. Phil's ride along aired live on his multi-platform network Merit TV.

On Monday, Gomez's Instagram video attracted a lot of attention, as the Only Murders in the Building star broke down in tears claiming, 'All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don't understand.'

Gomez, 32, quickly took down the post, but not before it was viewed by tens of thousands. Dr Phil was charitable in his response to the actress.

'She seemed to me to be very sincere in her empathy for these individuals, but I'm not sure who she was identifying with... I don't think she would relate to the people that were taken down in this operation,' he said.

In a 4.00 am pre-raid meeting, Dr Phil recounted standing by as ICE agents were briefed on the individuals that they would be targetting.

'They were reading off the charges and the convictions in the command center - murder, murder, child sex crimes, child rape, aggravated assault.'

Before the agents deployed, they were specifically instructed to avoid any violent confrontations with their targets.

'Safety was their number one concern that they talked about,' reported Dr Phil. 'I was very impressed at the professionalism of all of this.'

Then, in the field, Dr Phil said he saud witnessed even more evidence that convinced him that Gomez's characterization of the raids were erroneous.

'[ICE agents] are focusing on the worst first. That is the way they describe it and I was able to see how much investigative work they put in to these targets.'

He was accompanied along by Trump's newly named 'Border Czar' Tom Homan, a former acting ICE director. And during the evening, agents detained an alleged illegal immigrant from Thailand, who was said to be a convicted child sex offender.

'It was very clear that this is this individual is a danger to the community,' Dr Phil said. 'I don't think anyone would argue that it's a better community with him in it.'

Dr Phil also pointed out that illegal immigrant gangs, like Venezuela's Tren de Aragua and the Salvadorian group MS-13 are known to target their countrymen.

'They prey upon [their own people],' he added. 'So, you know, I would suspect that Selena's empathy is certainly not for the people that Mr. Holman is going after.'

Indeed, Dr Phil believes that much of the criticism of the ICE enforcement operations are misguided.

'All of this in the [mainstream] media is just fear-mongering,' he said, countering claims that federal agent are conducting indiscriminate sweeps of communities.

'That is not what they're doing,' he said. 'They're not targeting farms or agricultural environments. They're not going into businesses and checking people's immigration status.

Stabbings are way up in NYC and I worry for my wife each week as she is traveling in areas where all sorts of nastiness happens. That said the idea of banning knives is the stupidest thing I have heard in quite some time.

Isn't there and obvious solution right there that Starmer would like?

Ban all knives in the UK and send them to Ukraine. Stab two birds with one stone.
