Pets of the expanse!

Well, my wife took our cat to vet Tuesday morning, gave her my credit card, the cat needed an emergency visit. He had a temp of 107f. They put him on ice and an IV, they did blood work for virus and bacteria and all sorts of shit, found nothing, did X-rays ultrasound, CBC`s, everything. Wednesday his fever broke, and they kept him overnight still on IV, his fever shot back again that night, Thursday they did a fungal test and meds for it, still waiting on the results on it, but they took him off the IV after his fever broke again Thursday about 5pm. He is now eating a little, and pooped and pees, he stayed again last night and his fever stayed down, so this morning bout 11am we picked him up, vet said it's the 1st cat that he has seen that bad pull out it and live., he has 4 oral meds to take till Tuesday. 1 in the morning and all 4 at night. He slept on my wife's lap all afternoon till I got home. The vet says if the fungal test comes back negative, he has no idea what it is cause the did every test except 1 that 400bucks. But for now he is back home sleeping, no fever, stinking up the litter box. and trying to give a cat 4 oral meds is not easy, once he is feeling better might not be able to at all. For now all is well.

Poor boy, sorry to hear that. Glad he's feeling better.

Trying to give a cat pills is like tuning up your chainsaw while its running.
 
My friend's wife was a cat collector, they had an even dozen at one point. One like to go outside and fight constantly and it disappeared a few days, came back with a mangled infected leg. A small fortune later they had the cat on the mend until one day it chewed through wherever they kept it and escaped again. So, before long that expensive leg repair had to be amputated.

The little tripod lived several more years and then developed an intestinal cancer. Naturally, she needed to have every possible thing available done whether it was good for the cat or not so it had a round of even more expensive surgery that involved some sort of plastic ring, a gadget of some sort in its colon. I haven't a clue as to what it did but remember that in the 80s it cost $1400. Yikes !

The cat died two days after bringing it home, probably just out of spite. My friend was beside himself with grief, over his wallet not the cat. I suggested he get that plastic as***le dug out of the little bastard and put it on his keyring, make a Christmas ornament out of it or something. At least he'd get some use out of it for the $$. :)
 
Judging by this chart Aven is about 18 years old...That fits his personality, he is definitely still a teenager lol...

Aven got loose yesterday, my wife called me about 3pm while I was still at work, she tried to call him back but he kept exploring and moving further from the house...I work 20 minutes away, so I rushed home and found him a 1/2 mile away down the road...He happily jumped into my car and got him back home...After reviewing the cameras (she didn't know how he got free), turns out she had him out in the backyard with the harness on and tethered to the lead cable...When she went to get him, she put him on the back deck as usual, but did not have the gate closed and latched all the way...About 10 minutes after she left him the gate creaked open, he stood there for another 5 minutes at the top of the steps and then made his run...He's back home safe, that's all that matters...

Years ago I had a Shepherd mix of about 50lbs, plus I was much younger and in considerably better shape. Molly was an escape artist and she'd make a beeline right to one neighbor's house to jump in their pool! I'd run in and close the gate and then you would trigger the banjo music as we circled one another. They'd just sit in their kitchen watching all that laughing. I literally had to chase her down like a hunted animal (because that's exactly what I was doing) and finally cornered her in somebody's back yard over a mile away. People got used to seeing me sprinting through the neighborhood and their back yards. It really brought out my Inner Caveman :)

Meanwhile, the other dog I had at the time - an 85lb mutt named Max - knew the exact boundaries of the property and never left, he didn't need a leash. How do exactly do dogs get programmed at the factory?

Kobi, my last dog was the same way, he knew the boundaries and did not need a leash, he never left the property no matter what...And he's been tested before too, chased a deer once, but stopped short when he came upon the property boundary, then another time he saw a stray cat but never left the yard to pursue it...Kobi was about 4 to 5 years old when he proved to me he could stay on the property without a lead, before that he was tied up when he was outside...I hope Aven can do the same when he gets older....

The Commissar of the Oblast of New York State mandates a certain number and type of smoke and CO detectors. In order to close out the HVAC upgrade permit with the Town they had to send one of their Inspectors over to have a look at them. They have to be the new sealed 10 year battery type so I spent about $200 to replace the fully functional 9v battery ones I have always used. The Nice Lady came over and spent .00001 seconds here and said 'yeeeeeup' and that's all there was to it.

The new one in our main bedroom will chirp if I turn the window fan on.

At 0355 it chirped and Pie lost her mind, she was literally climbing the walls in abject terror. My wife never heard a thing. So today April 27 started at 0355 for me. The old one just worked perfectly and never did that :rolleyes:

This big polar bear of a dog needs a bath and today he will get one...He's been shedding a little lately, getting rid of that winter coat I assume...We still get cool nights dipping into the low 40s, which is unusual for this time of year, that could be affecting his shedding too...
