In March 1966, then-House Minority Leader Gerald Ford demanded a congressional investigation into UFO sightings in Michigan after the Air Force dismissed them as "swamp gas". He advocated for a serious study of the phenomena, arguing that the public deserved a better explanation, although no formal, high-level investigation occurred. During his short presidency he did nothing on UAP. Then again Ford had little chance to make an impact.

I think anybody who had a Mothership to party in is officially a person with a UFO interest. Did Nixon take Gleason to see a crashed saucer? I doubt it, good story though.

In 1968 as governor of Georgia carter saw a UFO.
Unlike my sighting carter only had a passing interest in the subject.

As a candidate during the 1976 presidential election, Carter promised to release government information regarding UFOs, though he later scaled back some of these efforts due to national security concerns."I can't discuss that at the moment"In the years following his presidency, he maintained an open but grounded perspective on the topic. In a later interview, he stated that he never believed the object came from another planet, as he understood enough physics to rule out tangible vehicles traveling from places like Mars.

In a private conversation, he also noted that many perceived "UFOs" are likely military experiments or incursions that happen before different branches of the military are aware of each other's projects.
Carters presendacy and his interest in UAP is as he discribed it "a malaise"

Ronald Reagan had a lifelong fascination with UFOs, highlighted by a personal 1974 sighting he never discussed.
I wonder what he really knew about UFOs.
Was his "Star wars" outer space missile defense system to defend from russia? Or aliens?
And his remarks to the United Nations about an alien threat, and comments to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev about uniting against an extraterrestrial invasion!
Was this deep knowledge of an alien threat? Or early signs of the Alzheimer's that eventually took his life?

Reagan frequently returned to the idea of a universal threat uniting the globe. During a private meeting with Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev at the 1985 Geneva Summit, Reagan reportedly asked if the Soviet Union would help the United States defend the Earth against an alien invasion. He also echoed the concept in a 1988 address at Fallston High School, where he noted how quickly global disputes would disappear if there were a "threat to this world from some other species, from another planet, outside in the universe".

My theory is that both Carter and RR were briefed on the extraterrestrial nature of UFOs. Carter chose silence. While RR used UFOs to push an agenda. As I said before it's hard to separate what RR knew vs what was going on in his head due to Alzheimer's.

President George H.W. Bush had a unique background as a Navy pilot, CIA Director, and President, fueling decades of UFO speculation. Interest spiked following claims from an astrophysicist that Bush privately stated a 1964 extraterrestrial landing occurred at Holloman Air Force Base, alongside archival footage of a lighthearted 1992 joke he made about government secrecy. Other than that HW had little to do with the subject.

A three layer defense system vs incoming missile attack. The key point of this was a laser beam space platform to destroy missles in flight. The tech did not exist. The cost was staggering.
With RR fixated on aliens and Russia one wonders was this designed to defend from russia or aliens or both? Congess wanted nothing to do with the project it languish and quietly died.
