I've been an MMA (mixed martial arts) fan for over a decade, so I've decided it deserves it's own thread. Though I watch the UFC much more other promotions, I'm generally aware of the sport as a whole. I don't really anticipate making a ton of posts on this topic, but here's where I'll put them when I do.
 
 

Donald Trump gets wild reception at UFC 296 as he arrives for Leon Edwards vs Colby Covington fight alongside Dana White and Kid Rock​

Donald Trump was seen arriving at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night ahead of Leon Edwards and Colby Covington's highly-anticipated scrap at UFC 296.

The former US President, who was attending his second UFC event in just over a month, rocked up alongside Dana White and American music legend Kid Rock before self-confessed Trump fan Covington came up short in his bid to dethrone welterweight champion Edwards.

As he made his grand entrance, Kid Rock's 2000 hit 'American Bad A**' could be heard playing to welcome Trump into the arena.

And before Covington stepped into the Octagon he made sure to grab some final words of inspiration from the 77-year-old, who appeared to wish him luck before his shot at the title.

Covington has inextricably linked his personal brand with that of Trump and even planned on being walked out by him at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday.

Jack Black makes surprise UFC 296 appearance as he walks out with Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson for his fight against Shavkat Rakhmonov​

Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson was accompanied to the Octagon by a very special guest at UFC 296 - with Jack Black walking out alongside him before his fight against Shavkat Rakhmonov.

Thompson has long walked out to 'Wonderboy' - the debut single of Black's former rock-comedy band Tenacious D - and the two are also said to have been friends over the years.

The unlikely duo notably linked up in the past when Black taught Thompson the 'Kick of Destiny' during the leadup to his fight against Kevin Holland at UFC 279.

The School of Rock star's appearance was likely the highlight of Thompson's night, however, as he went on to lose the fight against Rakhmonov after being submitted in the second round via a rear-naked choke.

Colby Covington doubles down on claim he lost UFC 296 bout to Leon Edwards over his support for Trump: 'They don't want people to control this country again'​

Much like Donald Trump 's electoral defeat in 2020, Colby Covington doesn't see his loss to Leon Edwards at UFC 296 as legitimate. 'I think they stack the deck against us because they don't want 'we the people' to have control of this country again,' Covington told Fox News ' Jesse Watters on Wednesday, doubling down on his claim that the judges ruled against him out of their hatred of the former President. 'That's what Trump stands for: He stands for democracy, he stands for freedom.' Covington's identity as a UFC fighter has become intertwined with his support for Trump, who attended Saturday's welterweight title bout in Las Vegas , only to rush to the exit during the middle of the defeated fighter's post-bout speech. When Covington has won, he's credited the support from Trump and his family. But when he lost on Saturday, Covington accused the judges of harboring anti-Trump bias and penalizing him as a result. And the ensuing days have only intensified his suspicions.

Savvy fans regard Covington as engaged in a shtick. Some years ago the UFC told him that they were going to cut him because he wasn't attracting sufficient viewers. In response, he immediately adopted the persona of a right-wing, boorish, Trump supporter. He's gotten several title shots since the metamorphosis even though his fighting success has remained about the same. He's a Villain; people eagerly watch now in the hope of watching him get beaten.
 

Ronda Rousey finishes Gina Carano in 17 seconds then declares she's done forever​

The atmosphere inside Inglewood’s Intuit Dome felt far more cinematic than the recent bore that was the NBA All-Star Weekend ... even long before Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano appeared to fight Saturday night.

Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions turned the arena into a full-blown Netflix spectacle packed with celebrities, influencers, former fighters and longtime fans who grew up watching MMA greats like Rousey, Carano, Nate Diaz and Francis Ngannou.

For the main event, as it turned out, Rousey needed only 17 seconds to end Carano's dream comeback.

The entire night still revolved around nostalgia and the return of Ronda Rousey. And when the lights dimmed for the main event and "Bad Reputation" played above the fans, Intuit Dome erupted.

Across the cage stood MMA pioneer Gina Carano, the original mainstream face of women’s MMA and the opponent fans spent years fantasy-booking against Rousey during the peak of both careers.

Saturday night, the fight between these two somehow became reality ... it was pretty surreal.

Then it was over almost instantly.

The second the fight began, Rousey exploded forward, secured a clinch, executed a textbook judo takedown, and immediately transitioned into her trademark armbar before Carano could settle into the fight.

Tap ... just 17 seconds to secure the win. It was traditional Rousey on display.

For a split second, the crowd almost seemed stunned by how fast it happened.

From where we at OutKick stood cageside — by media members and LA mayoral hopeful Spencer Pratt — everyone looked stunned while Rousey stood in the middle of the cage victorious.

I don't follow the sport but from what I understand Rousey has some sort of medical condition that prevents her from doing much more than what we just saw, plus as hard as it is to believe Carano lost 100+ pounds and trained incredibly hard to look like that. Yowza!
