Two moments in time.

Ian collapsed into Anna's embrace
Chris ran to his room and slammed the door.
Samantha just sat there blank ..
 
This morning we said goodbye to Ellen Samantha Burris. At her request she was cremated and no body present. She wanted to spare everyone seeing her dead in a coffin.
Debbie was here and we came together United in grief. In accordance with her wishes her ashes are scattered over devil's lake.
I read a letter written by her
I am gone now
And only the wind remains
If you need to hear my voice
Listen to the wind
If you want to see me
Look for me in the rain
For that is where I am.
Good bye grandma Burris
You are loved and terribly missed.
 
With my husband tied up with meetings, I rushed over to Wright Middle School. To get Chris
He is in the principal's office. His torn shirt and black eye told me a tale. His girlfriend Ellen. Who also sitting there holding him, crying. All he said was, "We got our ass kicked, Mom."
A boy was being escorted out of the school . Looks like he got worse.
I went in when called. The boy had bullied Ellen because she was Emo. It was so bad he was pushing her and knocked her down. Chris defended her. And got into brawl. He got the worst of it. No action by the school Chris is a hero. As for the other boy. Well he is going to jail assault. A moment of heroism for our son.

FWIW I was bullied mercilessly as a kid because I was obese and this dredged up a few unpleasant memories that would have been treated very differently today. It was very formative, it affected me the rest of my life and I never took that nonsense from anyone ever again.

I don't have any kids and normally would not comment but right now I say 'good for Chris'. Getting your ass kicked is no fun but slinking away is far worse in the end.
 
It's a subculture of Goth::
An emo person tends to be quiet, introspective, or shy and can be creative. They spend time alone or with people who share their interests listening to music or making emo-influenced art. They have deep emotions but aren't always only angry or sad.
The emo lifestyle includes dressing in emo fashion (tight pants, band shirts, statement patterns) and listening to emo bands (or going to their concerts). Contrary to some harmful stereotypes, self-harm and extreme anger and sadness are not parts of the emo lifestyle.
Emo rejects typical Gender roles. Of males and females
For Ellen being in SCA is roleplaying and immersing herself in a different role than that she enjoys.
Chris is slightly into the emo scene and wears some clothing of the culture images (46).jpeg
As you can see Emo is heavily influenced by Japan. Ian, at Chris's age, wore muscle shirts and baggy pants. He still does to an extent.
Also, Wednesday Adams is seen as Emo. As I said it's a lifestyle more than a sexual orientation.

Wouldn't you know it, yesterday my wife and I were in a diner on line waiting to pay at the counter and there were a group of kids in front of us that I looked at and said 'Oh.... I see' Shows you how much attention I pay sometimes :)

Some sort of fuzzy Goth subculture indeed. They were far more polite than some of the tourists we get.

Here we were opening gifts. We invited Anna and her dad to come. I was happy to see him sport his 200-day sober pin.
Ian handed her a small box. She opened it and inside a ring. "After high school when we graduate. I want you to marry me. Be my wife. Our lives are intertwined and I can't think of anyone I rather have at my side. Will you share your life's journey with me?
She said, "As your mom always says, you're my bright and shining star! YES!"
And on Christmas day my oldest son is engaged!

I was warmed by her father. Before he gave up the bottle. He was mean and uncaring.
"I could never be Anna's father while I was drinking."
Anna healed him. Fully and truly. He won his war with the bottle. "They better let me in heaven because I did my time in hell "
 
Two weeks ago, Kate announced her retirement from roller derby at the end of the season, she said, "due to a major life change."
She was mum about it until yesterday.
We joined my father at her home. She said "I have someone wants to meet you."
Megan came in from their room carrying a baby girl! She placed her in my father's arms
"Meet kaylin Megan Watson drew. The adoption is final. You are great grandpa and grand parents! My dad overwhelmed with emotions passed her to Bob who passed her to me. Words can't express properly what I feel
My daughter is now a mother. My dad wept openly "I wish Helen was here to share this moment."
I smelled her perfume"she is here dad. She sees us and is happy."
As our granddaughter woke up for food Megan began to tend to her.
"I just hope I'm half the mother as you were to me."
I know she will be .

There are moments in time so deep so amazing.
To hold and meet my granddaughter.
As a father I did my best to make sure they had the best childhood possible. Everything is full circle. As Superman said "the father begats the son. The son becomes the father."
I met the future it's in safe hands
I'm still processing and full of emotions. My kids can't wait to meet her. Little Josh has a playmate. And our lives are full and rich .
I can't ask for better
 
Little Kate met my kids.
Ian was afraid to hold her.
Chris adored her.
Samantha is super excited!
Debbie met her via zoom.
Ian took me aside while excited for the future.
Wishes he could be 17 forever.
So do I son..
 
Last night at the SCA mixer my son Chris asked me to come with him. He went to where "Lady" Ellen D'bois was with her parents. He bowed and said "My lord and lady I sir Christopher Robert Watson do seek your permission to formally court your daughter."
Her father looked at him and said " sir Watson your courage and respect is well known. My lady do you have any issues? " Her mother said " no " "my daughter so you wish to court this knight?"
She said "yes father my heart belongs to him"
He turned to me " you are the father of eir Watson what say you?"
I said "I approve of this my lord "
Her mother placed a brass bracelet on her wrist. They held hands and kissed.
I spent time with her folks setting boundaries as they danced
So at 13 my youngest boy has a girlfriend.
 
Spring prom wright middle school. Here is Chris in a rented tux looking every inch like the man he is swiftly becoming. Ellen in a black gown. Principal Stoval came over. "I'm going to miss them. Exceptional students. "
I asked "what do you think those two make it? "
He looked "I give it about 40% they lasted longer than expected. And so much love and affection good possible future together "
 
Junior prom. Here was Ian in a tux rental. Anna in a red silk dress. Rikki and I spent time with her dad Carl. Who sporting a "one year sober pin." We met Laura a woman he is dating. So many memories. To think in 2022 ian was a bully.. Carl was reflective. "My girl grown up. And so it goes. My son is all but a man now. Anna a woman. A time that will never come again.
 
For the 3rd time, I was in the auditorium of the Wright Middle School. This time it was Chris who was receiving his diploma. With us, we're the twins, and Ian Was beyond proud of his brother. The honor roll was read and Chris was on it. It was amazing to see my boy honored. Gov Evers gave a short speech about duty and growing up right.
After he walked around saying goodbye to his teachers and Ian took a moment to apologize for being a bully.
A short summer then high school awaits him .
 
For the 3rd time I attended a freshman orientation at memorial. And here is my boy Chris meeting teachers being assigned classes. Picking electives. He joined a few clubs. Took stagecraft. And enjoyed his tour.
He met with principal Henderson.
"Mr watson your sisters are legendary. Your brother has become one of our best. What can we expect from you?" Chris smiled "carpe diem" he smiled "I expect nothing less. Welcome to memorial."
And so it goes
