Uber was hacked in October of last year and are only now disclosing it. The hackers acquired the data of 57 million customers. They paid a $100,000 ransom and the stolen data was supposedly deleted.

I have no need to use UBER out in the countryside but what useful infomation could have possibly been stolen?

I presume Uber is linked to your debit card to pay for trips? Only thing I can think of?

They claim credit card information wasn't compromised, but considering they've waited a year before informing the public that could be a deception. The information was to & from info, addresses, phone numbers and I presume names of the requesters.
